[Midnight Hotel] Fourth-wall catch-all; 15-30 April 2016

Date: 15-30th April, 2016 (2017 in-game).
Location: The Midnight Hotel.
Situation: It’s the fourth-wall event and there’s a sudden influx of patrons! Feel free to use this post for anything that happens within the Midnight Hotel during the two weeks of the fourth-wall event, using the subject header to label specific rooms or for specific people. Regulars should feel free to continue using the non-fourth-wall Hotel post for pre-fourth-wall threads! See also the OOC note at the bottom.

Once more, it seems, the Dreaming has seen fit to lure in temporary residents. Luckily, the Hotel and its kedanese staff have done this before -- even accounting for the fact that it isn't exactly usual. If this goes on, they may start to predict the event!

It takes a day or so to sort things out, but once sorted the Hotel breaks out the same sleeping-bags as they had last time, and set aside as many areas of the common-room and even the lobby as sleeping areas. Any spare bed-rooms are also filled to the brim, though there aren't many of those these days.

The Hotel, like some of the other buildings around Keeliai, displays some occasional damage of the explosion-that-wasn't; in fact, seems to show it more obviously than most other places. Mostly it's cracks in frames or the smell of smoke in random areas, or some loose shingles; the worst that happens is the plumbing may be a bit unreliable until the wards can right themselves.

As before, Mr Shudder lets Foreigners without a soul-gem stay for free, as long as they follow the rules--which they are told upon entry. (Most notably, that's the 'no violence' rule.) Luckily, the new walk-in restaurant function means there's plenty to eat for everyone, and the cooking staff are on overtime this fortnight to make sure everyone is provided for.

Strangely, Mr Shudder himself is scarce for these two weeks. He does drop by in the evenings to make sure things are progressing well, but if anyone asks all he'll say is that some old friends have arrived and he and Erskine are helping them out elsewhere in the city. Anton will be around if anything untoward happens--but for the most part management is performed either by Anton's kedanese staff, or by Klaus von Reinherz.

Oh, hmm. There's a possibility Anton could do that with Runes, but he's not around, and I don't think we have any spare rooms.

[ Bisi definitely didn't want to turn someone away, especially after another Foreigner had been so kind to her when she arrived with special needs. ]

Uh, do you mind waiting while I try to get ahold of the owner?

That is acceptable.

[and that's about as grateful as a Sith Lord ever sounds. He can go get a refill on his latte and meditate or something while he waits.]

[ Bisi approaches. ]

Anton is on his way over to see what he can do. Um. [ Head scratch. ]

I'm Bisi.

[dorkvader]

Good. You have done well, Bisi.

[Give him a minute, he'll remember how manners work. Like not assuming everyone already knows who you are.]

Oh, right... I am Darth Vader, dark lord of the Sith. You can call me Lord Vader.

You self-identify as 'dark lord'?

[dorkvader]

It's part of the job title. [He shrugs] a loose translation of Darth.

Since you are not from my galaxy, I thought it best you understand the importance of the title.

[ten_zero]

Unfortunately [ This is a very sarcastic unfortunately, although her tone doesn't betray it so much ], status and power in our old world doesn't translate to Keeliai. All foreigners are more or less equal, besides what skills or abilities they bring.

[dorkvader]

You misunderstand me. My title is not freely given, it is taken. It is the measure of my skills and abilities.

I am Darth Vader, whether I have status or not.

[ten_zero]

[ He definitely had confidence, and, admittedly, not a small amount of charisma. It was a strong enough statement that Bisi couldn't muster the motivation to argue with it. ]

What skills and abilities are those?

[dorkvader]

I am a master of The Force and the right hand and enforcer of my master, the Emperor.

Basically, I handle anything he needs done. Putting planetary leaders back in their place, hunting rebels, getting queso dip.

[ten_zero]

Of the Force? So you're a Jedi?

[dorkvader]

Jedi? No. I'm Sith.

The Jedi are self-righteous jerks.

[ten_zero]

Obi-wan didn't seem that way. He's been very helpful to me, in fact.

[dorkvader]

He is here... [Now she really has his attention. His old master is here and alive? He must be truly distracted if he hadn't sensed him already. Maybe he needs to cut down on the coffee a little.]

You don't know him as I do. Deep down, Kenobi is an asshole.

...how do you know him, exactly?

[As it happens, Anton was relatively nearby one of the entrances, and manages not to take too long to arrive. He's wondering why someone would need a pressurised personal room, but when he enters and sees the man in the suit talking to Bisi, things become slightly clearer.

[So he approaches.]

Miss Bisi?

[dorkvader]

The details are unimportant for now...

[Oh look, a distraction. How fortuitous. Vader isn't keen on admitting to the whole getting chopped to pieces and set on fire thing. It's a bit embarrassing.]

[Instead, he turns his attention to the man. This must be the 'Anton'. Bisi mentioned.]

[ten_zero]

Uh, Anton, hello. This is Darth Vader, was it?

[dorkvader]

[he nods]

Lord Vader is fine.

[it's less formal.]

[gistful]

[Lord. Interesting; Anton uses titles anyway, but he's rarely seen this sort, and Vader seems amiable enough. He doesn't seem to have given Bisi any trouble, at least, beyond his unique needs. Anton bows.]

Welcome to the Midnight Hotel, Lord Vader. Miss Bisi has told me you require a room which can be sealed and pressurised, is that correct?

[Best get things straight, after all.]

[dorkvader]

[It's easy to stay amiable when your coffee mug is full and you're getting what you want. He hasn't had to choke anyone for hours.]

That is correct.

Bisi has been most helpful, she serves you well.

[gistful]

She serves our patrons well.

[Which is far better than serving him well, in his opinion.]

We have one room which may suffice, with some changes in the wards; may I assume that the room need not be strictly disinfected? A quarantine environment will likely not be possible in the short time we have.

[dorkvader]

[She is in his employ, therefor she serves him. But he will choose to keep that opinion to himself. His rooming needs are what matters.]

It will suffice.

[Beggars can't be choosers and Vader can't stay trapped behind his mask indefinitely. It starts to feel claustrophobic and irritating.]

Very well. Please give me a few hours to change the wards.

[Luckily, this particular room doesn't have a window, which means the door needs the most maintenance.]

Do you require the furniture to be of any specific materials, or otherwise?

[In case the man is in a suit to avoid hypoallergenic reactions of some kind.]

[Good. He wouldn't want a window anyway. There's less chance for anyone to see the real him. He has a reputation after all.]

Only that it is solidly built.
