It’s a party and everyone is invited! Klaus and the midnight hotel employees have gone all out and set up paper lanterns and festive decorations all over the hotel and courtyard. Eat, drink, and be merry to your heart’s content!

[A night of nothing but fun was a difficult concept for Conan to grasp. Especially in a carnival setting like this.

Far too many times in the past, a night out at a carnival or a fair had turned into work for him.

But if this was where everyone was going, Conan felt like he needed to be there as well. Just in case.

So he walks around the booths and vendors, but doesn't play. (In the case of quite a few, he was below the minimum height for it anyway.) He watches and listens a lot, but does not participate.

Eventually he goes in search of food and manages to sample a few of the grilled delicacies.

And when the time comes to light lanterns? Conan is right there. This, at least, had some meaning to him.]

[ Bakura was at one of the booths, one that tested aim. He had no use for the prizes, but he found them easy enough to win. So he was giving them away after winning them, albeit with a faintly bored look on his face. So Conan will find a stuffed bird... thing... being held out to him. ]

Here you go, kid.

[Conan eyes the toy with skepticism and makes no move to take it. ]

Pass.

You're an ungrateful little whelp, aren't you?

[ Bakura turns and catches a younger kedan dashing past, giving the stuffed prize away to the child, who runs off with it. ]

I know better than to accept gifts from strange persons at a carnival.

[denyamenti]

[ mockingly: ] Suspicion poorly suits someone so short.

When you're three feet tall, I think suspicion is an important thing to have.

[Considering the kinds of things that tended to happen to Conan at carnivals and amusement parks. ]

[ Bakura scoffed ]

You say that as though you've been the only child looking after themselves in the world.

Isn't that just more reason to be cautious?
