1. Cat Cafe

Even though Conan was staying at the cafe, he didn't spend much time there. There were too many things out in the city holding his attention. Still, he tried to at least stop by the cafe in the mornings. On a good day he could sneak some coffee before anyone remembered that they should be protesting allowing a kid to have that much caffeine.

2. Police Station

There was something terribly familiar about a police station, no matter what world it was in. Now that Conan had talked to some of the people involved, he was more than happy to spend a part of his day following people around the station and learning about all the procedures they had set up. And if someone there happened to be called out to an interesting case?  Well, Conan was rather practiced at the skill of sneaking along until it was too late to send him home.

3. On the Streets

When it came to crime, Conan had terrible luck. Tushanshu had actually been rather peaceful for him to far, barring the dust incident. That streak of luck came to an abrupt end as Conan is nearly bowled over by a kedan rushing out of a nearby shop as a cry of alarm at the theft went up. In a quick motion, Conan jumps on his skateboard and stomps on the turbo button with his heel. With a loud whine of the engine he is off, skillfully navigating around the obstacles on the street as he quickly catches up to the thief.

As the kedan rushed past, Hyuuga's ice cream cone was knocked out of his hand. And because Hyuuga loves his sweets and takes crimes against sweets very seriously, his hand flies up only a fraction of an instant later, and black letters surrounded by a red glow materializes in the air, circling the kedan without touching. It stops the kedan in its tracks, and Hyuuga stomps up with a dissatisfied pout on his face. "You're so mean! Strawberry is one of my favorites you know!" The biggest of offenses has been committed, and Hyuuga has not even noticed that there was a kid following the kedan.

Conan's eyes widen in alarm as Hyuuga steps in and intervenes. Right in his path. He hastily leans all his weight to one side in an attempt to slow down. The edge of the skateboard drags across the ground, finally coming to a halt as Conan goes tumbling onto the sidewalk.

When he hears an odd sound of something scraping against the ground, Hyuuga turns around. His zaiphon keeps the kedan from running away as he looks down at the little boy that suddenly is just there on the ground. “Don’t you think so too? This guy has no manners at all, right?”

"That's right. Some people just have no manners at all," Conan agrees irritably. "Maybe you should go take that guy to the police station."

"Exactly! And yes! I should! So!" And because Hyuuga also has no manners at all, he grabs the back of Conan's shirt and hoists him up on his shoulders. "I forgot where it is! Tell me~" And he laughs, because he also has no shame whatsoever.

Conan would have liked to object to being just hauled up like that, but the truth was that this would save him a lot of time. He certainly wouldn't be able to take the thief in himself, and this would be faster than calling the police station and waiting for someone to come by.

"I need to get my skateboard first."

"Skateboard?" Hyuuga looks around, not certain what a 'skateboard' is, but there's an unfamiliar looking thing on the ground. So he points at it. "That thing?"

Hello, who was this stalkery person outside the police station doing things that Sonja recognized as things she would be doing in his place if he hadn't gotten there to do it first?

"Hello, what's your name?" Sonja asked.

She'd learned to be a lot more subtle about social interactions in the intervening years.

"Conan Edogawa," he told her. "I'm helping out here now."

He tilts his head and looks at her with interest.

"Who are you? I don't think I've seen you around the station yet."

"I just got here. Again. I was looking for someone, I heard she might be here. Uh," She bowed. "Sonja."

"Aren't you a little young to be helping with police work?" Said the girl whose been following around military officers since she was old enough to walk.

"Back home, I was a detective's assistant. The person who took care of me was a well known private detective."

Actually Conan had been solving all of his cases for him. But that was a detail he intended to keep secret.

"And I helped out the police too. They said I was good at noticing all the things that other people miss."

She crouched down so that she wouldn't be talking down to Conan.

"That sounds really familiar, honestly. I was always a little more capable than most for my age. Sometimes you need fresh eyes, different eyes on things."

"Really? How were you more capable?"

When Elizabeth had heard there was a cat cafe in the city, she'd made it a priority to visit. Mostly because her experience of small cuddly animals prior to Keeliai was limited to reading out them, and that simply wasn't good enough. This morning, Conan may see her with a kitten in her lap, utterly enchanted and cooing over it while a cup of tea sits on the table beside her, ignored and now cold.

"I've never seen anything so adorable..."

Conan was actually rather fond of cats. In his time as a child, he'd run into enough puppies and kittens to reluctantly start to look forward to seeing the creatures. Sometimes they had even come in useful in cases.

It was just one of those things that he would never admit to anyone over the age of seven.

He eyes Elizabeth and the kitten solemnly, then walks over to the next table over with his tea.

"Is it your first time here?"

Elizabeth looks up at Conan, swallowing her initial response; it's my first time almost anywhere and only nods instead.

"Yes, someone recommended this place to me for a good variety of teas, but..."

Well, kitten takes priority.

"A lot of people do come here for the tea. But the cats are a major attraction too."

The detective boys would have loved this place.

"Someone told me... or perhaps I read it at the Welcome Center, but the kenan don't keep pets here in the city. That seems odd to me, but perhaps that explains why the attraction of a place like this is higher?"

"That's a possibility. People are more likely to be interested in things that are rare, right?"

"Uh." Well, that's not what Tony expected. He chuckles. "Just, 'things'? You should really be more specific. There's a lot of weird things that go on around here."

Which things, Conan? All the things? That's so many things.

"Mmm, I know. I haven't been here nearly as long as some of the others, but my list of subjects to investigate gets longer every day."

Tony smiles, both sympathetic to and amused by the kid's attitude. "I've been here for three years - I've given up trying to keep a list," he jokes. "Any general areas you're interested in? If you don't narrow it down you might spend more time listing than investigating."

"Physics," he says promptly. "Or whatever the local equivalent is. More specifically, I want to learn what is possible here. I've spoken to several people about the energy sources they call magic, but I haven't been able to determine yet exactly how that changes the laws I was familiar with at home."

This is Tony's kind of kid. "Well, for starters, the basic laws of physics here seem to be about the same as everywhere else. Haven't run into anyone complaining about gravity or friction acting weird. But, magic... Yeah. The magic users aren't all that helpful when it comes to explaining how their magic works. This universe - or at least Konryu - seems to be able to adapt to any non-native Foriegner magic system, so... anything that's possible anywhere else is probably possible here." He laughs. "Which ends up being a lot less crazy than it sounds - most of the time."

"Do you know if there is any way to measure when one of these magics have been used in a certain place?"
