Catch-All for Fourth Wall.... And Other Things

Conan was putting a lot of effort into avoiding his housemates as much as possible. After the events of the last month, he had very little interest in being cornered into talking about everything that had happened. He'd show up for meals and at night, but for the most part he spent as much time as possible outside of the apartment.

He needed time. Time to figure out how he felt about all the new revelations.

2. Central District
Conan spent a lot of time skateboarding around the district, sometimes stopping to practice soccer or to get something to drink at one of the restaurants. He watched for trouble, as always, but for once things seemed to be quiet. Perhaps it was because of the strangely large number of new arrivals.

3. Library
At the library, Conan happily found a chair and buried himself behind stacks of books. Between the on-going study of the kedan languages and the numerous question he was investigating about this place, he had more than enough to occupy himself for hours.

4. KPD
Even though he was mostly certain that the work he had been assigned at the police department was meant to keep him busy and out of trouble, Conan still made a point of stepping in every day. Sometimes there was something interesting for him to work on. On occasion he stops in to see some of the different officers he was slowly getting acquainted with.

He passes over a basic grammar. "You'll need to learn the kedan languages if you want to get anywhere."

Nita accepted the book, nodding. She spent a moment debating whether or not to just tell him about the Speech - but then, she really didn't know the language itself, so it'd feel kind of like cheating to just skimp out.

"Thanks! Spoken, written, or both?"

She chose a seat nearby, then sat at the table... then got out her Manual, to take notes.

"Both would be better. None of the books here are written in the languages most new people would understand and it helps to understand the Kedan outside."

"Good to know."

The Speech was going to continue to be useful, then; good. Still, it was no excuse not to learn on her own merit.

"Best way to learn actual speech is immersion, though, right?"

Unless you had a steganograpic gift or something - but that was Carmela's thing.

"That's what I've heard. But it helps to know some of the grammar and vocabulary first, right? At least that's what I've heard on television."

"I'd guess so."

That's the best answer she can probably give without feeling the need to give away everything about the Speech.

"Wait, speaking of which: do they have TV here?"

Seemed pretty unlikely, going from the general tech level she'd seen across the districts.

"No television channels, but there are movies. Its pretty rare, though."

Nita thought about that for a minute.

"Old-timey style? Or is it completely different from Earth-based genres?"

"I don't know. I haven't watched any of it here."

Nita shrugged.

"Maybe we'll find out firsthand sometime?"

She did likely still have a few days left in Keeliai... or maybe more than that, she couldn't guess.

But Nita had exhausted her questions for the moment, which meant her attention was going to get absorbed in that book, now.
