EVENT | LET IT GROW, LET IT GROW

Characters: All!
Date: March 15-31
Location: Large, open spaces in Keeliai, at the outskirts of the city, and near some of the fields
Situation: Assembly and construction of new hydroponics facilities and expansion of the greenhouses is in full force. Time to grow some food!
Warnings/Rating: None

The past few months have been difficult for growing food; it has probably come to the attention of some that perishable food, especially greens and fruit have been in short supply. Using technology acquired in Tavimbi, a large number of hydroponics systems are being set up, and the existing greenhouses are being expanded in order to make up the shortfall of good growing conditions. The past few months have been focused on getting all of the pieces ready, and now it's time to assemble and plant.

It's important to take advantage of the warming weather and begin growing as soon as possible. As such, everyone who's available to help is asked to do so. There are opportunities to assist with major components of construction as well as assembly of hydroponic equipment. While it's not required to volunteer, there's a certain air of expectation that anyone available to help will be helping. After all, if there's not enough food, Keeliai is in big trouble.

Elizabeth had also signed up for the workshop, because she both wanted to help people and learn something new all at once. She didn't have the greenest thumb, although she'd managed to grow some plants near the windows of the Tower, but this was her first time attempting anything of scale.

But it was nothing compared to the studious notetaker beside her. "I don't think we're being graded on these," she leaned over and whispered, smiling playfully at Bisi.

Elizabeth's clever joke was unfortunately lost on someone who had never had conventional schooling. And even if she had that had been centuries ago.

Instead, she thought she might have missed something about balancing angle.

"Did I miss something about mounting angles?" She started looking through her notes, how did she miss that?

"Mounting...?" It took Elizabeth a moment to realize where that seemingly unrelated tangent had come from, and then she giggled. "Oh, I meant like people get graded on assignments in school. At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it's meant to work."

Bisi's eyes narrowed in confusion as she tried to puzzle out what was going on. Assignments for school? There was an embarrasing number of dots she had to connect here, over an embarrassing long time.

She wound up awkwardly lifting her hand and slowly pointing it at Elizabeth. "You're.. telling a joke?"

She was like 60% sure, so the question mark in that was definitely audible.

The silence stretched just long enough for Elizabeth to begin quietly panicking that she'd somehow accidentally offended Bisi, when the cause of the misunderstanding became clear.

"Oh... I was, yes. A little bit of one? I didn't mean to confuse you, I'm sorry."

"No, I'm sorry I-" She looked back at her notes. The joke had been that she was taking too many notes, which... okay there was a bit of a prickly reaction she got from that. Thoroughness was important! But she knew it was intended with friendliness and humor.

Her expression nonetheless took on a hint of petulant sourness as she turned back to Elizabeth. "There planters are a significant investment, I don't want to mess anything up."

Elizabeth's smile faltered at Bisi's tone, and she ducked her head. "You're right... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have teased. Can we start over?"

"Yes, me too." She smiled pleasantly. "I'm Bisi."

She nodded her head in place of a bow since they were sitting.

The brunette nodded back, and since the instructor had finished the lecture already, they weren't disturbing anyone. "I'm Elizabeth," she replied. "I've been living and working at the Hotel both since I got here."

"I started out working for the hotel when I first arrived-" Busy did some thinking. "Hmm, I suppose it's been over a year now."

That was a bit of an event, from what she'd understood. She didn't think she'd celebrated an 'anniversary' before.

"I work at the college and live in the sky sector now, though. You'd be putting the planter in your room, then?"

"Goodness, that must seem like a long time looking back on it," Elizabeth noted. "When I was introduced to Zatanna at the Welcome Center, she said she'd been here four years. It's strange to think that things aren't happening back home, when that much time passes."

She brightened. "Oh, what work do you do at the college? And no, I was thinking somewhere in the Hotel though... my room doesn't have a window."

"Dust. I'm looking into a cure. I also work as a teacher for biology."

Did it seem like a long time? Her perception of time was admittedly strange. "...it's gone by rather quickly, actually."
