Characters: Gene, Jackie, Alex, Miles, Aly, and YOOOOUU!!
Date: All of May
Location: Keeliai et al
Situation: The lusty month of May~
Warnings/Rating: Will be added as necessary.
A. [Gene] | throughout Keeliai | throughout April | open
Well, here's something odd. As usual, Gene's looking pensive, but he's actually striking up chats with people. Maybe it's because of his role in the new Justice and Arbitration Guild, and maybe it's because he's trying to take over half the work from Bakura at the Dojo after he attacked that kedan. There are some dark circles under his eyes, but he appears to be in decent spirits.
B. [Jackie] | the Golden Koi | throughout May | open
Time to move! Yes, Jackie's moving out of the Hotel and into his own little place. There's an apartment above the Koi which is much more convenient...and it keeps him from having to walk home in the dark, which still bothers him. He knows that he's shown up after his death - what's to say Mr. Tong won't, too?
So he's moving his meager possessions and getting some basic furniture along with tending bar less frequently than he usually does. Come say hi!
C. [Alex] | Water Sector | throughout May | open
Alex may be part of the Foreigners Guild now, but that doesn't mean he's not involved with the city. On the contrary. He's more than willing to talk to the kedan, joke with them, and haggle. He spends a lot of time in the Water Sector; it reminds him of what he considers home, in a way. He'd spent a lot of time in the Far East, after all, and while Keeliai as a whole reminded him of it, the Water Sector did most of all.
He seems happy. This is weird.
D. [Miles] | throughout Keeliai | throughout May | open
Miles, in the meantime, is all business. Since his scary death machine had been activated because of the Dust contamination, he has a bone to pick with the cultists. Several bones, in fact. All 206 bones in the human body, or however many the kedan who're in the cult have at the time when he gets a hold of them.
Basically, while he doesn't really want to go full Walrider on them, he won't shed any tears if he does.
He's hunting around for clues, anything he can find, asking anyone who might know anything. Good job putting a target on your back, dummy. Stupid hamartia.
E. [Aly] | Metal Sector | throughout May | open
At least the Metal Sector is somewhat familiar. It reminds her of cities back home, almost, or Linali. She can almost pretend that she's Otherside instead of stuck here. Almost.
She's fidgeting with the ring on her hand, walking around and window-shopping. She's obviously quite new.
F. [Aly] | Earth Sector/Wood Sector | early May | open
Of course, there's more than one way to get the lay of the land, and that's from the air. Sort of. She can't transform into anything that flies, and she can't fly on her own, but she's taught herself how to parkour, sort of, and on a good day she can do a wuxia wire-leap that looks impossible. She just has to believe in herself hard enough.
If anyone's around at night, she can be seen walking and running around on the roofs of the Earth Sector, or climbing trees in the Wood Sector.
G. [Aly] | the Dreaming | May 6 | open
Though she's been here about a month, she doesn't like it here. She misses home. Home, not home. She misses the forest, she misses her dark and enormous trees, the way the crimson leaves carpet the ground and muffle every step, she misses the land spirit...
The land spirit.
It didn't work last time she tried, but she twirls her wrist and pulls.
She's yanked away, and...there she is. The forest. The wolf's forest. Her forest. Home.
"Sensei?" she calls out. There's no answer. "Sensei?"
That doesn't make sense. He's always here. He doesn't leave. He never leaves. It's his realm, it's his place. Why isn't he here?
She walks up to the big flat rock on one side of the clearing, what she thinks of as the plinth, where he usually is, and feels it for warmth. There's nothing. He's not here. He's gone. Something happened, and he's gone.
The stone feels different, too - unusual, dead. Like the land spirit's abandoned it, too. She casts about, but her line is gone. There's no connection. There's no land spirit. The simurgh is gone. They're all gone. They're gone, and she's alone.
She lies down on the rock - the dead rock, the cold rock, the lonely rock - and starts to cry.

It's not quite evening when he arrives and settles atop one of the stools, studying the bottles behind the counter with interest. New world, new alcohol.

Oh yeah. That vampire.
At least he'd seemed...friendly?...enough...? "Hey, man, what can I get you?" he asks, keeping cool. He's dealt with shapeshifting police chiefs and literal chaos death demons. He can totally handle a vampire.
Unless he asks for a Bloody Mary. Jackie doesn't have any blood aside from his own. Yikes.
no subject
"Do you have anything resembling bourbon?" Devin inquires, leaning his elbows on the countertop. "I haven't had a chance to get very familiar with the liquor here."
no subject
He'd been to enough bars in his life to pick up the terminology, so that was at least an asset to his job.
no subject
"Is this place yours?"
no subject
Then he grins, looking proud. "Yeah. I've been running it for the past year."
He's been legit for a year? Whoa.
no subject
His smile turns a bit more genuine at Jackie's pride. "Congratulations. That's quite an accomplishment. Are you planning on having an anniversary party?"
Not that Devin would attend, most likely, but certain kinds of dates were often marked, and in a place like this the passage of time for Foreigners was all the more notable. You never knew when you might go home.
no subject
Once he pours the drink, he pauses, looking thoughtful. "Huh. I hadn't even thought of that." He passes it to Devin, still thinking. How long has he even been here? Four years? Longer than most. He'd lived through Malicant.
no subject
Devin stop being a liquor snob."It might draw in new customers, too, if you run some kind of promotion," Devin says as he takes the drink. After breathing in some of the aroma of the liquor, he has a sip and makes a quiet noise of appreciation. "This is pretty good. So, did you run a bar where you come from as well?"
no subject
At the question, he laughs a little, shaking his head. "Nah. This is a whole new thing for me."
no subject
Everyone had a story in this city. Whether Jackie is open to telling his remains to be seen, but it could prove interesting. Useful, even.
no subject
The question, though, catches him a little off-guard. Sometimes he thinks everyone knows what he used to do, but then again, a lot of Foreigners now weren't here for the Snakes. "I used to be in a gang," he says. Hey, it had its own prestige. Both the Snakes and the Sun On Yee. Granted, he doesn't want anything to do with either of them anymore, but it's hard to shake that sense of pride and belonging if you've grown up being told that's the only way to get prestige.
no subject
"Going straight then, are we? Sounds a bit boring," he comments, sipping at his drink. "But I suppose it's comparatively safer."
no subject
Jackie grins. "It's not boring when that's what you grew up with. This is some crazy shit for me, man."
no subject
Really. He's never lived in a way that resembles anything other than criminality. Having a day job here in Keeliai is new and strange.
"As long as you're happy with your choices, that's all that matters," Devin adds with a shrug. "I can't say I've ever found the straight life particularly appealing."
Liar.

"At least some of us are enjoying the enforced vacation in this city," Devin says, raising his glass in a toast. "Where's home for you?"
no subject
Even though the place had done him dirty, he still loves it.
no subject
Hong Kong plus gangs usually only meant one thing, and Devin says it with something like professional interest. He tries to avoid getting involved with them unless he has to, but they were the kind of organizations that vampires settled into in his world.
no subject
"Not here, though. Obviously." Hey, at least he hadn't gotten any kedan gang tattoos. They probably would have looked cool, but God, at what cost?
