[Closed] A Spring of Advice

Location: Ice cream shop where Zatanna works
Situation: Jack needs advice on a girl, so he asks another girl! What could possibly go wrong?
Warnings/Rating: Maybe Zatanna's brain breaking a little...


Jack generally liked finding himself in new situations. He was a spontaneous sort himself, craved adventure and discovery as much as the mischief and snow, and believed that fresh opportunities were as much a part of Fun as anything. But this was so new and outside anything he'd experienced that he found himself at a loss, and thought it best to get some perspective on it before deciding what to do. It was certainly a strong distraction for everything that had been going on the last few weeks, but this on top of everything else was leaving the winter spirit feeling a bit frazzled.

So this afternoon after he was done his deliveries, he flew to the ice cream shoppe where Zatanna worked, knowing that her afternoon shift would have her here, and rapped his staff on the doorway before poking his head inside.

"Zatanna?"

More laughter. He was going along with the joke. Good.

"I'll wait." She leaned back, shifting as if to make herself more comfortable.

He made a show of thinking about it, drumming his fingers and scratching his chin, then finally threw his hands up in the air. "Nope, brain freeze. I've got nothing."

She refrained from laughing at the pun (barely). That would only encourage him.

"I thought so." Actually, she could probably rattle off half a dozen reason off the top of her head...but that would also encourage him. "Maybe you should take it as a hint that talking about dating one girl while planning a date with another girl is a bad idea." As in, the reason he came to her in the first place. Remember that?

Jack did have the grace to look momentarily sheepish. "Okay, I get it. But I really do appreciate your advice, Zatanna. I hope it goes well with Orina."

"I hope it goes well, too." For a moment, she dropped the playful pretense and let the sincerity shine through. "You deserve that much."

He seemed flustered for a moment by the abruptly genuine well-wishing, but as usual tried to cover it up with his jokes. "Oh great, no pressure."

"Nope. None at all." A wink, and she turns once more. "I really have to get back to work. Just remember: be on your worst behavior and don't you dare think about coming back before curfew, or we'll be having another talk."

Best advice ever, y/y?

Jack got to his feet as well. "Yes'm. I have things to pick up anyway. I'll talk to you later, okay?"

"Like you have a choice."

Details, jack. She's going to want all of them.

He stuck his tongue out at her, then headed for the door. Once clear of it, the wind came down and lifted him up and away.
