This is not a date (Closed)

Characters: Dean and Fenris. Iorveth invited himself. The jerk. 8|
Date: April 7th, evening
Location: A general cafe in the fire sector
Situation: Dean is going to try and teach Fenris a basic exorcism, provided the automatic translation on the turtle doesn't foul things up.
Warnings/Rating: Potty mouths for sure, but hopefully it'll stop there.

[He'd been planning on heading into Atam or whatever it's called as soon as possible, but after learning about the procedures involved, Dean's decided that holding off for a few more hours isn't too bad. It'll still be there later tonight or tomorrow, and it's not like he needs to go so much as he wants to go and find out a little more about this mainland place.

Normally, Dean wouldn't be all gung-ho about teaching some random person the tools of his trade, but Fenris already knows a little bit about demons and Dean is of the opinion that any poor bastard who knows about those things deserves as many weapons in their arsenal as they can get. Of course, there aren't any guarantees this will work right, which is why he has a small, leather-bound notebook with him that he's spent a few hours filling with various signs and sigils that can also be used against demons, some of which he's pulled straight off of his knife--which is also with him, but not where anybody can see it.

He may also just have splashed a tiny bit of holy water into the extra glass on the table. Never hurts to be safe.]

Then you might have specified. [ He sits at Dean's behest anyway, glancing back towards Iorveth (what in the Void is a Witcher? He'll need to remember that to ask later), before leveling the human with a stare.

Only to find a notebook thrust towards him. He flushes, and the jumble of unintelligible shapes on the page seem somehow more daunting than the danger of a good old lynching by human strangers.

Reasonable or not, Fenris' fists clench reflexively at the question, beneath the table. He gets angry at just about everything, but that- that really does shame him. Stiffly:
] No. Those letters are strange to me. [ Are you buying this? Please buy it.

He turns an eye towards the sigils, and promptly his brow pulls down to furrow.
] And these are even stranger. [ He can at least vaguely recognize the alphabet as something he's seen before but doesn't understand, but the runes are wholly odd to him, shaped all wrong from the ones he has looked upon as the slave - and then loyal follower - of a mage. ]

Do I disturb you so much? [ Said in a smarmy tone with a smirk. Baw, cry more, Dean. Either way, Iorveth moves in to lean over Fenris and peer down at the notebook, ignoring the way Dean tries to keep it between them. It looks strange and unfamiliar, but the sigils seem much like things he'd seen Phillipa and other sorcoresses use. Strange. ]

It looks like something I've seen witches scrawl.

[ Are you a witch, Dean? The way Fenris pauses doesn't strike him as very odd. It's no surprise the language is foreign. ]

I have seen the writing of many witches, [ mages, sorcerers, whatever ] yet I have not seen these. [ They seem more... flowy, less the heavy, blocky sort of characters that Dwarves are prone to etching in their enchantments.

But at Dean's explanation Fenris' eyes widen, and he hunches over the page, inspecting the runes more closely. Each curve in its larger shape.

It sounds... so easy.
] It is truly that simple? [ He'll learn if it kills him, he has decided that much already. If Hawke ever shows up, Fenris is going to be painting these on his gd face. ] What does it do to those who have already been noticed by a demon? [ And maybe the Witch and the Abomination too... ]

[ He squints at the writing, and has seen demons, wraiths and the like bound to places by magic. Curious that Dean would be using it. ]

For one so wary of witches, you seem very entrenched in practicing magic.

[ Though his attention shifts to Fenris, noticing how intensely he's interested in it. ]

Are their many demons in your realm?

Yes. As many as there are men, it seems. [ Somebody is a racist who refuses to differentiate between Spirits and Demons... ] But they dwell in the Fade unless they can trick some fool mage into making a deal with them and cross over.

[ His brow crinkles at that. ] What use might demons have for objects? [ But seriously though. ] I would see those sigils as well. [ That's as close to a "please" as Fenris is going to get okay? ]

[ There's a long moment he stares at the chair offered, and stares at Dean like 'Who the fuck do you think I am, son'. Also, Fenris, you need to come on a hippy elf Pocahontas walk with Iorveth so he can teach you to talk to bears and shit. Spirits =/= demons. But Iorveth can't hear small text, so. ]

The Fade being what? [ And okay, he'll sit. With bow in lap. He will shove it straight through yo throat if you touch him son >B( ]

Your witch-signs. [ Not calling them their names, nope ] They bind, but do not banish. Do you not know how to rid yourself of a demon completely?

[ WOW BOTH OF YOU CAN GO he knows at least one Spirit and it's super annoying and that should be enough alright??

Fenris glances back towards Iorveth, and he rubs the metal claws of his thumb and pointer-finger together in a useless little fidget before answering.
] The place to which the dreaming mind escapes. Apparently it is thought to be the first realm, and those within it the Maker's first children, but. [ A shrug. He speaks with Sebastian much on the matter of religion, but still does not know where he stands. It is... difficult, to find the kind of hope that Faith requires. ] What is known is that only a mage may alter the Fade, and it is through their minds that demons bridge the gap back into the waking world. [ Or when the veil is sundered, or when they are summoned, but w/e that's not the topic at hand right now.

He takes the paper, thumb tracing over the lines of the drawing, trying to memorize the pattern. Dean, you're an ass but you're alright.
] What must it be drawn with? [ Surely something powerful enough to chase away the attentions of a demon requires lyrium as aid, or the ground roots of some rare plant or another. ] Should they not simply be slain, regardless of where they might go?

[ Justice does not even count. He was ballin before he and Anders decided to be crazy.

And he's paying pretty apt attention to Fenris's description. Interesting as Dean's scribblings are, Iorveth doesn't have an intention to hunt demons. It's Witcher's work, and if Dean is something like that in his world, that it's not his job to deal with them. Leave it to Dean. He takes note of 'the Maker' and considers it. ]
Our mages and sorceress summon demons through dragging them from another realm. Yet I've never considered out dreams much more a place than a images projected from the subconscious mind. The Maker is your god?

[ He peers at the papers and symbols traced. It seems like something that shouldn't be tampered with, not if you haven't had the training for it. The Order of the Flaming Rose attempted it and that had been what caused the massacre of Vizima. ] Are you raised and molded in your world to practice these things, dh'oine? What powers do you have?

Not my God, no. [ It's a silly distinction, but Fenris isn't exactly willing to let go of bitterness just yet. ] ...Blood magic also serves that purpose. [ Okay so maybe it is the topic at hand. ] Demons may be summoned through the veil between the Fade and the waking world, but when it is done in such a way are not in the guise of a man or woman. They're still dangerous, but less so as they may be seen and acted upon. Mages are the only ones who may do so, as well. [ Probably. See how everything ever is the fault of mages?? Back him up here, guys!

Either way, at Dean's words Fenris' fingers ghost over where his heart is, and his brow furrows. Check, convince Hawke to get a tattoo. Possibly employ Isabela towards this end, she's the sort who can talk anybody into ridiculously bad decisions when she really wants to.
] What sort of intent would provide the power necessary?
