Under the Sea (Open)

Characters: Jehan, Grantaire, Byrn, and everyone who wants to join them!
Date: April 23rd, midmorning to late evening
Location: The edge of the turtle!
Situation: Swimming! A picnic! A party!
Warnings/Rating: I'm going to rate this PG-13 for naked/nearly naked people, alcohol, and smoking. Also R's mouth. And apparently terrible mythological comparisons.

[Jehan has never been this happy, he doesn't think. The ocean. The blue, warm ocean. He gets to see it again, gets to swim in it with his friends, gets to enjoy it. He's so happy.

Of course, he's taking a long moment to shed anything but his coat once the group gets to the edge. It's a beautiful shade of blue and he can't not admire it.]

[Bryn was glad that she had been at Grantaire's when Jehan had come over to tell them about the swimming. It sounded like just the thing to break up the monotony of her day to day life as of recent. Not to mention, opportunities for fun were few and far between these days. Catching Jehan's excitement immediately, she moved into action to help gather supplies for a trip to the shell's edge.

Once there, she wastes no time in settling in, and for several hours can be found in many places among their little party. Bryn delights in swimming in the ocean in the nude of course, and of course following that up with sunbathing in the sand directly after. Careful to avoid heatstroke, she even spends a lazy hour in the shade, wrapped in a sheet as she eats fresh fruit or dozes on the sand.

It's the most indulgent and free she's felt in weeks.]

[The wonderful thing about having fallen wildly off of the withdrawal wagon while landside, was that Grantaire has stopped really caring all that much about rationing his wine. It's a lovely day, he feels (relatively) okay despite his usual hangover of a headache and sore bones, and while he's sure that he'll get a sunburn he still is going to take advantage of the warmth while he can.

Upon arriving he popped open the bottle he had already started (having brought three of his own for their picnic and reserving them specifically for himself), drank down half of it and began to remove his clothes. Naked as the day he was born he spends the day swimming, drinking, eating whatever snacks have been brought with a nice glass of his new favorite vintage, and napping in the sun with not a thing to cover him (except for his coat, should he get cold).]

[it's before Enjolras arrives that Grantaire knocks Bryn on the shoulder with a bottle in offering, squatting at her side.] Come on then, have a drink and join me, I'm going back in.

[The cold bottle against her skin definitely gets her attention. She turns to Grantaire with a smile, takes the bottle, takes a drink from it, and then nods.]

Shall I take the bottle with us?

[She's thinking yes, but for all she knows Grantaire will prefer to be careful with what alcohol they have, considering how hard it's been to come by as of late.]

[As he'd said, Combeferre had never properly been to the beach. Of course, he has been swimming, but Lyon is rather a large distance from any seashore. So he can be found in many places throughout the day -- swimming, of course, and sprawled out in the sand underneath one of their makeshift umbrellas with a book. He has even managed to make himself a passable sketchbook, and can be found sketching various creatures he's managed to spot during the day.

This water is the warmest he's ever felt, save from the faucets back in the city. It is freeing, relaxing, and he is very much almost perfectly content at the moment.]

[Bucky had ended up just taking Molly and going to the shore. No specific destination in mind, just. Wandering about, relaxing. They were both due some of that, he thinks.]

[They all are.]

[So, while there's little intent to running into another party, there's not exactly much shock, either.]

[Alcuin probably won't be able to avoid a sunburn today, no matter how he tries- though he does spend a great deal of time under the sunshade, he also enjoys the shallower reaches of the water, paddling or floating. His swimming lessons have done some good, but not enough to make him feel comfortable going where it's deep.

He's having a rare good time, though, whether he's enjoying the touch of the water against his skin or lounging on the edge under the shade he brought, eating fruit and watching his friends.]

[If Alcuin wished to go to the deeper reaches of the water, Courfeyrac would have gladly aided him. As it was, he was still glad to see Alcuin (and everyone else for that matter) having such a good time. He pulls himself from the water at one point, with every intention of flopping down next to the man and enjoying the shade with him.

And perhaps stealing a piece of fruit while he's at it, grinning impishly as he pops it in his mouth.]

[Henry has made his way out to the shore to take in the sights. Swimming is not yet on the agenda, but he is, wonder of wonders, in his shirt-sleeves. And without his hat and stick. Yes, the Victorian gentleman has shed his outer carapace for the day.]

[Henry can't help but be just a bit scandalised by the sight of Bryn—who at this point is in the shade, wrapped in her sheet—in fewer clothes than he's seen some ladies go to bed in, but any sense of dismay is more than tempered by his general liking for her and his amusement at finding her thus. In his shirt-sleeves, he's unbuttoned his waistcoat by now, a nearly unprecedented display of public sartorial informality.]

I see I may have been too hasty in comparing you to the Graces, my dear Bryn—today you are a naiad.

[There is certainly not! And since they're at the edge and all, the water is pretty much irresistible. So Molly has stripped down to -- well, her underwear and bra, for lack of a bathing suit. The view is enjoyable either way, presumably, but she's kind of ...quietly staring at all the buck-naked French guys in front of them.]

I guess, uh, they ...don't believe in bathing suits.

You did not, but we have been rather...ah, busy of late. What is it? [A book? He's already perking up.]

[Bryn is quite certain that this beach matches the beauty of the Asarian coastline. It's lovely and warm, the waters are crystalline and sparkle in the sun...it's like something she'd expect of the higher planes.

Currently swimming in the ocean, Bryn stops near Jehan and smiles brightly.]

Have I thanked you yet for inviting us to come with you?

[Bryn's been wrapped up comfortably on the sand, dozing part of the afternoon away. When she wakes and finds Combeferre nearby, she watches him a while through half-opened eyes. He seems to be sketching, though what she can't tell. Rolling from her stomach to her side, covered from hips to chest, she props her head up on the heel of her hand and tries to take a peek.]

I hadn't realized so many of you were given to the creative arts.

[Bryn has never seen Henry dressed so casually, and she finds herself just as shocked. However, seeing him more at ease and dressed-down pleases her immensely and so she greets him brightly. It's quite clear from the way she sits there on the sand, sheet tucked around her as if she were wearing a makeshift toga, she is the most relaxed that she's ever been in public since her arrival.]

A naiad, Henry? [And then she pats the sand next to her.] Will you join me?
trifurcate: (pic#5681382)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-04-23 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it certainly isn't.

[Wanting to stay moving, Bryn starts to swim a wide circle around Jehan, head ducking under the waves only briefly here and there.]

You seemed particularly excited to come, however. Do you live near the shore back home?
epigrammatical: (marsyas listening to you)

[personal profile] epigrammatical 2013-04-23 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I would be delighted.

[He sits down beside her, a little fussily because sand.]

A naiad—a water-spirit that takes the form of a beautiful human lady, in the stories of our Greeks.

[The more he proves he can bend a bit an relax, the more points he earns with Bryn. It's clear she's glad that he sits without complaint.]

You have a great many stories and legends from these Greeks of yours.

[But she'll take the compliment with an inclination of her head.]

I think there's something similar back home, a creature that can be summoned by the Asarians and their magic, but I've never seen one myself.

[It's lovely to hear this from Jehan, to have the opportunity to know him a bit better.]

All the better that we're able to do this today then. What is it you love best about being out here? Is it the swimming? The sunbathing perhaps? Or the company you take with you?
