[Leo sometimes remembers, vaguely, a promise to Annabeth that he would tell her about his hoverboard when he actually manages to finish it. Today is not that day.

He screws in the final bolt and grins as he watches the hoverboard rise from the ground. So he cheated, kind of, using a little bit of that Celestial Bronze to actually bring it to life, but whatever. Little details. He hops on it, wobbling for only a couple of seconds before he finds his balance, Thomas and Buford leaping excitedly below him.]

Alright! [He claps his hands together and rubs them excitedly.] Let's do this!

[And off he goes!]

[Ooooh? Leo looks at him curiously for a second, because did the guy just imply that hoverboards are totally a thing in his world? Sweet. He lowers the hoverboard and jumps off it, leaving it floating waist-high in the air.]

But are your hoverboards anything like this? [And he pats the board before he continues.] 250kph max speed, dual-thrusters, solar-generated battery, sound system that perfectly mimics stereo surround-sound, sleek, titanium coating, base made entirely of Celestial Bronze. [Neglecting to explain exactly what Celestial Bronze is...] I call it the McFly Hoverboard Generation II Turtle Edition. Or, for short, the Loverboard.

[He's from 2171 and he lives in space. Hoverboards are probably a thing.

Totally side-eyeing you for that name.]

I'll admit, I don't know much about the technical specs of any hoverboards, but that sure looks impressive.

It's not just impressive, it is super awesome.

[And eh, well, he's feeling a bit generous right now so] Since you mentioned you haven't seen one for so long, want to try it out?

[Bean is surprised by his generosity.]

Really? Me?

No, the huge-ass turtle we're living on top of. Of course I mean you!

[Besides he's already crashed it once what's the worst that can happen right]

Alright. [Since he offered. Waist height for Leo is chest height for Bean, but he climbs on board alright, sitting on his knees for balance before tentatively standing upright.]

How do you operate it?

Right here!

[He points to three glowing, circular buttons on the front of the board. The leftmost is lit green, the rightmost red, and the middle blue. It's also smaller than the green and red ones.]

Step on the green button to go, red to stop. Tilt the board right and left to maneuver, lean forward to speed up and backwards to slow down. Oh, and the blue button switches the music on. Hope you like dubstep!

[Bean steps on the green button and begins making slow circles around Leo, first to the left, then to the right, slowly getting faster. He masters it very quickly, riding with a look of concentration on his face.]

[BEAN Y SO SRS] Hey, you're pretty good at this! [A laugh!] It could help if you try to look like you're having fun, though!

[Right. Fun. He can do that. People smile when they are having fun, right? So Bean smiles. It... doesn't look entirely genuine.]

[O M G] Whoa, whoa, hey man, you're not out to bite anyone's head's off, just chill.

[Bean gives up the farce of smiling and slows the hoverboard to a stop, hopping off. It was enjoyable while it lasted, but it's probably best he give it back now.]

Thank you for allowing me to ride.

[He's just. going to chuckle a bit at that BEAN WHY SO FORMAL. He then takes his place beside the hoverboard, almost protectively, but he doesn't step on it just yet.] No problem, man.

[And he offers his hand!] Leo Valdez, by the way.

Bean. [He shakes the offered hand, loosening up slightly.]

You made this?

[firm shake and release! as he pats the hoverboard with pride.]

Yep! With all my sweat, tears, and love. Pretty sweet ride, huh?

[Bean doesn't comment on whether he finds it "pretty sweet" but merely asks:] How did you find antigrav technology here? Tu Vishan has always seemed strictly low-tech to me.

[UHHHHH...] Hey come on, man. How does that line go again? A mechanic never tells his secrets. Or something like that.

[Bean nods. He wouldn't divulge his engineering secrets to a complete stranger either.]
