Event | Satellite | Spectres!
Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 23 - 26, 2013
Location: Keeliai, turtleside, ARSHEPHELIOS cluster remains
Situation: Repairs and salvage operations operating innocently have triggered an invasion of spectres that possess and wreak havoc upon all they see.
Warnings/Rating: Please put CW in your subject lines
Satellite Crash Event
Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres
Questions | Keeliai | ARSHEPHELIOS
Salvage is sweet, but not all is well on board the ARSHEPHELIOS cluster. The seamless cylinders salvaged from debris and the cluster, now being frequently traded, turn out to be pods the first time one is penetrated or cracked open. Each breached pod releases a flood of energy-based apparitions hellbent on world domination -- or, more accurately, person domination (and it's not the fun kind).
These apparitions -- spectres, if you will -- are driven by a need to protect the technology of the satellite cluster that their pods are associated with. They will stop at nothing to see this through. Each is immune to physical attacks, but seem to be injured or dissipated entirely by things like electrical shock or other energy-based projections. If people touch them, there is also a brief window of vulnerability, but it acts also like a door that swings both way. Through contact, these spectres can and will invade one's psyche, take over their body and cause them to attack friend or foe alike! Should the possessed body be subjected to sufficient electrical shock, the possession should fade. Strong natural will can also drive the spectres out, but it is no walk in the park to do so. Possession is not the only tool in the arsenal, for these spectres use electricity as their main offensive weapon. They'll leave deep-tissue burns on anyone they fight, and show no degree of fatigue after constant use of it.
Ten thousand of these creatures will be freed from pods, resulting in a veritable flood of Keeliai, the turtleside, and the satellite cluster. With such a driven enemy, it comes down to killing or being killed.
Meanwhile, those taking shelter indoors may notice that the spectres will get into the biomechanical functions of Keeliai. Consoles will be malfunctioning during this time, with lines of mysterious code and strange, ghostly images. One might hear people screaming for help or hours of patchy radio static.

He growls louder, faintly uncertain and looming threateningly. But he doesn't attack again, instead waiting to see what she'll do. He'd just assumed by default that she was an enemy-- Hulk doesn't have allies in his memory-- and the idea that she isn't one is taking some time to wrap his mind around.
Hulk doesn't speak, because he so rarely does, but there's a clear question in the way he's pausing for the first time and watching her.]
no subject
Thank you again for your help destroying those specters. I have no intent or interest in fighting you, I simply wish to continue on my way.
[ Really, her room has never seemed so far away. ]
no subject
He lumbers up toward her, still watching warily, and tentatively reaches out to knock one giant green fist against her shield. You can't exactly call it gentle when it's the Hulk doing it, but he's not actively trying to destroy it-- he's just curious.]
no subject
She still doesn't waver as he moves closer. The Archive can read body language as well as anyone. When he checks her shield it lets out a tiny warm glow at the point of contact, and then fades after a few seconds. That much force isn't enough to create any visible reaction in her, though if he had hit it full power she would without a doubt have slid a few feet.
But look, more talking. She's a repository of knowledge, she likes to explain things to people. ]
I am the Archive, and as such I have access to magic, which is how I created my shield.
no subject
This isn't hurting him, and he's not sure he can destroy it. There's an itch to find out, to really lay into the shield just to see if he can-- Hulk has always taken things like that as a challenge-- but he probably shouldn't. She's talking to him calmly. He kind of likes that, and if he tried to destroy her shield, she'd probably be smashed, too.
He grunts in acknowledgement, and then takes a few steps in the direction she'd been going, before stopping. He looks back at her and jerks his head forward. Are you coming?
It's not like he has anything else to do, and she can clearly take care of herself. Hulk doesn't mind having someone to accompany if they're good at tearing things apart, like him.]
no subject
I'm going to my apartment in the Earth sector. I appreciate any assistance you provide on my way.
[ Sorry, Hulk, she just isn't someone who shuts up. In her book if she hasn't said it or explained everything then she's the liable party. ]
no subject
He lumbers down the street, slow enough to let her direct where they're going. Hulk has no clue and frankly doesn't care as long as he has things to smash. There's a faint snarl as he more or less ignores her and looks around for specters, hypervigilant.]
no subject
Luckily for Hulk she has a few pieces of technology in her small shoulder bag and that's why she was being chased in the first place. A handful of specters emerge from a nearby alley and she points, though she suspects he's already noticed them. ]
There.
no subject
He doesn't need the encouragement-- mindless of how it might make him look like an attack dog, he bounds forward in a huge leap and crashes right in front of the specters. He's starting to catch on that he can't throw physical objects at them, so with a roar of already assumed victory, he wades right in.
The specters aren't defenseless, of course, and he's getting shocked regularly and harshly, loud crackles of electricity arcing over his green skin. But it doesn't truly injure the Hulk, and the resulting pain only makes him angrier, and seems to add to his momentum as he rips them apart with vicious efficiency.
He's also an excellent distraction if she wants to take some out herself.]
no subject
One of them slips off from the main group and heads toward her, and she flicks her fingers at it. Once again threads of light burn right through it, and she flicks her hand again to arc them toward the main group where the decimate another specter before vanishing. ]
timeskipping because we said so o/
This puny girl has impressed him with her ability to kill specters, and her shield, even if she's still inferior to Hulk with how she does it from a distance and hides. But there's few that can keep up with him without being scared of him, and he likes that.
When they reach her apartment, he's panting heavily and his skin is cracking into burns all over from having to take them head on. They're healing not quite visibly, but incredibly swiftly, leaving behind smears of green blood mixed in with the dirt and dust. They still hurt, though, and he's starting to feel it as he slumps to lean one hand on a bench outside the building entrance.
It's sturdily built masonry, typical of Earth sector, but it still crumbles under his weight. Hulk lets out what might be a sigh.]
hooray for timeskip!
It's a small relief when they get to her building. Now she's at a safe place, easily defendable. The Archive's concern over her safety lessens, and she can some of the tension leave with it. Even though she knows there was little true danger to her self, The Archive's desire to preserve its host had provided her with some feeling of concern toward the matter.
When the Hulk slumps over she barely catches her concern from showing on her face. She begins to raise her hand and then clenches it into a small fist in a rare display of indecision. The Archive doesn't want her to use water magic; it's and old and taxing form, since running water disrupts magic. After a few moments of mental battle she wins out over it and raises her hand again.
Rain seems to start forming out of nowhere, falling just on him. She congeals moisture out of the air, drawing it above him, and dropping it in drips large enough to help wash away the dirt and blood, but not hard enough to be unpleasant. Her fingers wave back and forth as this happens, and the evident concentration on her face explains her silence. ]
no subject
It has to be her doing it, from the way she's concentrating and waving her hand. And then the water starts to feel... soothing, and he relents, relaxing from his aggressive posture.
He's interacted with a lot of people today, people that spoke to him as if he could understand. Which he could, at least a little-- he knew basic concepts and he knew tone, and he understands, here, that she's doing it out of kindness. It's such an unprecedented gesture for him to get, and he pretty much can only associate it with Betty, which instantly makes him feel softer toward this girl.
He looks directly at her as the rain wets his hair and makes it stick to his skin, and rumbles out,] Hulk.
no subject
When he speaks his name she nods. She divides her metal focus and partitions off the majority of her concentration for the magic and the rest to respond. ]
It's nice to meet you, Mister Hulk. I am the Archive. Thank you for your help, I will remember your kindness.
no subject
That one spoken word is all she gets, though her thanks earns a direct stare and a grunt before he turns away. If that's all she has to say, then he's gotten her where she wanted to go, and there's no need for him to stick around. Hulk exists for violence, and he almost physically can't stay still this long without Betty's calming influence. The anger is starting to surge up again and drive him to destroy.
But he'll remember her, too, if he sees her again. If that hated Banner ever lets him out.]
