Event | Satellite | Spectres!
Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 23 - 26, 2013
Location: Keeliai, turtleside, ARSHEPHELIOS cluster remains
Situation: Repairs and salvage operations operating innocently have triggered an invasion of spectres that possess and wreak havoc upon all they see.
Warnings/Rating: Please put CW in your subject lines
Satellite Crash Event
Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres
Questions | Keeliai | ARSHEPHELIOS
Salvage is sweet, but not all is well on board the ARSHEPHELIOS cluster. The seamless cylinders salvaged from debris and the cluster, now being frequently traded, turn out to be pods the first time one is penetrated or cracked open. Each breached pod releases a flood of energy-based apparitions hellbent on world domination -- or, more accurately, person domination (and it's not the fun kind).
These apparitions -- spectres, if you will -- are driven by a need to protect the technology of the satellite cluster that their pods are associated with. They will stop at nothing to see this through. Each is immune to physical attacks, but seem to be injured or dissipated entirely by things like electrical shock or other energy-based projections. If people touch them, there is also a brief window of vulnerability, but it acts also like a door that swings both way. Through contact, these spectres can and will invade one's psyche, take over their body and cause them to attack friend or foe alike! Should the possessed body be subjected to sufficient electrical shock, the possession should fade. Strong natural will can also drive the spectres out, but it is no walk in the park to do so. Possession is not the only tool in the arsenal, for these spectres use electricity as their main offensive weapon. They'll leave deep-tissue burns on anyone they fight, and show no degree of fatigue after constant use of it.
Ten thousand of these creatures will be freed from pods, resulting in a veritable flood of Keeliai, the turtleside, and the satellite cluster. With such a driven enemy, it comes down to killing or being killed.
Meanwhile, those taking shelter indoors may notice that the spectres will get into the biomechanical functions of Keeliai. Consoles will be malfunctioning during this time, with lines of mysterious code and strange, ghostly images. One might hear people screaming for help or hours of patchy radio static.

Diem Wind!
[Wind rushes up sharply from nowhere, blowing the spectres back several paces and preventing forward motion.]
One last chance! Surrender to the power of Justice!
[You're taking notes on world-saving back there, aren't you, Ender?]

Except Ender wouldn't do that. But he does question her methods. She's giving them too many chances. A swift defeat is what's needed, otherwise they'll find an opportunity. They'll exploit something. He takes a step closer just as one seems to be going for the attack. ]
To your right! Watch out!

[Amelia is a boxer in her training, and so easily adapts to his shout, whipping up a spell.]
"Digu Volt!"
[The spectre is consumed by a blast of electric energy with a scream. And . . . maybe the spell was a little overkill on Amelia's part, because that part of the ground also sparks into a small fire. Whoops.]
[The battle is on now, though, and she can't worry about it. Her primary concern has to be about keeping Ender behind her as she fights off the advancing spectres. The area lights in a host of spells, sending many into oblivion.]
[There's a lot for one person, though, and they seem to be getting closer . . .]

[Which means in the chaos of the crash and invasion, he has been trying to locate Amelia and generally make sure she stayed out of trouble.
[The good news is that he can hear her yelling. The bad news is that he sees specters converging in that direction and the sound of spells being cast.
Which means running in her general direction while using a few electric spells of his own to discourage any specters that notice him.]
Amelia!
[OOC: Feel free to not be able to hear Zel yet, or to not have him reach the fight before Amelia gets possessed.]

I think they might be calling reinforcements. If there's something you could do to put them all at a distance for at least a few seconds, we should be able to escape.
[ In the midst of the yell, his attention snaps in Zelgadis's direction -- vaguely recognizing the voice. But right now, he isn't really able to put it with a face. ]

[Unfortunately it comes just half a second too late. Annoyed with the persistence of the spectres, attempting to block one that just seems absolutely determined to go through Ender, Amelia decides to handle things the way her father does. Her fist balls, and with a warrior's yell, she slams it into the spectre's stomach.]
[It really doesn't go the way she planned. For a split second, she's aware of the two of them -- girl and spectre -- and the shout of Ender . . . And a shout in the distance definitely familiar . . . Then everything fizzles, like a black and white TV set losing its picture. Her body freezes, going still, and the spectres surge around her, heading after Ender.]
[It won't be obvious yet what exactly has transpired. But something is very, very wrong.]
no subject
[On the other hand, he walked right into a fight, so he had other things to worry about, like making sure the specters couldn't get him or the boy.]
Amelia! Get behind me!
Mono Volt!
[At least the specters would stop ignoring him now, as he was obviously capable of hurting them]
sob. Sorry for the wait.
No!
[ It's the only thing he can shout when Amelia goes to physically attack it. The thing is, Ender has seen what happens. He knows physical attacks are pointless against these things. Only people with magic can do real damage here, but he doesn't quite understand the mechanics of possession. Some people seem to have come out of the encounters just fine. Others, however, turned on their friends and were being attacked by other guests. He watches her cautiously -- but there's more to worry about. Because while Amelia has been hit, the other spectres are closing in.
Ender knows his only chance to survive this is to escape, but he can't leave this girl here. He can't be responsible for someone getting hurt or killed because of him -- not again. And it's just fortunate that this is the point Zelgadis makes his appearance. His gratitude is offered in a brief expression of relief, and then he turns his attention back to Amelia. ]
Are you alright?
[ For someone who had enjoyed yelling, she certainly has gone quiet -- and like the sudden hush of a flock of birds in the woods, this just doesn't bode well. ]
