Situation: Tis the season, which brings both joys and not-joys. The fog is an annoyance, but it provides a nice reason to build blanket nests and drink a lot of tea.

All preparations over the last few weeks culminate into one day. Maps have been made and studied, plans set. The turtle has been awash in workers, both kedan and Foreigner alike, building off technological plans and testing magical means, the shell practically humming with the activity of its occupants.

Now everyone is in their places: The scouts in the waters in front by wing and by ship, keeping wary eyes on the horizon ahead, the movers and those who plan to help steer at the far rear of the shell edge. The two groups are separated by miles, but messengers between the two will do their best to convey and coordinate information.

In spite of the tension in the air, the atmosphere remains determinedly cheerful – hopeful that this will be the solution. Hopefully within a double handful of days, the idea of a sinking turtle will fade like the remnants of a nightmare.

Maybe those kinds of things don't apply as much here (she has no idea what the age is to become an adult in Keeliai), and even if she wasn't turning eighteen, it's still her birthday. Which, of course, means there has to be a party.

There were some benefits to not sleeping.

...okay, depending upon who you asked, there were a LOT of benefits to not sleeping. But Aya's favorite was the fact that she did not need to waste precious time resetting her processors when she could be working. Her latest project was of great importance, after all. It was up to her to offer the most reliable navigation directions in the attempt to move Asti to a safer location.

Unfortunately, one of the few downsides meant that she tended to lose track of time. Metaphorically, of course; her internal clock was regularly synched so that it matched the local timezone. But there were long periods in which she did not leave her office. Day or night, it did not matter. She required neither sustenance nor rest, and her internal battery was self-charging.

Of course, that wouldn't stop those unfamiliar with her systems from worrying. Nor would Aya object to the occasional visit. She was, after all, far ahead of schedule.

The day has finally arrived and the morning and afternoon are spent putting together what will be the scene of the Masquerade Ball at the Courtyard of Public Opinion. Kedan can be seen coming and going, carrying in decorations and lights and later on, various foods and desserts. Valdis, and Rue can occasionally be glimpsed directing people and moving things around, but anyone not a part of the setup will be ushered on and discouraged from lingering.

As night falls, the Courtyard will be brightly lit and ready for guests...
