[CLOSED] Certains tomberont et certains vont vivre
Characters: Midii & Eponine
Date: mid-May
Location: Starting in the marketplace; possibly moving on from there
Situation: Two French War Girls meet up again in the aftermath of recent developments
Warnings/Rating: This might end up very depressing
[She wasn't sleeping very well these days.]
[Some nights, Midii would lay awake. Others, she would pass out from sheer exhaustion and the nightmares would take over. Flashbacks of her old life. The one she had long thought to have left behind. The Captain. The soldiers. Nanashii. Very rarely, she would dream of her brothers. Those were the worst; her face would be wet from tears upon awakening.]
[How many days had passed since the mass bombing? And now the city was under attack. She could feel the unseen presence in the air. A looming shadow threatening their once near-utopian way of life. Was this what her destiny was meant to be? Glimmers of happiness, only for them to go up in smoke.]
[The only comfort was that she could still move freely without the threat of being shot. That only a select few on the Turtle new of the sins of her past, and none of them would ever hold it against her. That she could still walk the marketplace and purchase enough food, even with rationing, to fill her up at least twice a day.]
[Which was what Midii was doing now. Keeping her head low, tendrils of blonde locks hiding her shadowed eyes from view, she weaved through the crowds in search of her day's haul. There was the bakery. The fruit stand. The dairy shop. And, lastly, the bookstore--maybe she would get lucky and there would be another English volume at her current reading level. It would be well worth the price, to give her something to do on those nights when sleep was a lost cause.]

But she continued on. She left her apartment when she wished, saw those she wished, and did what she could. Today, though, she'd gone to pick up a few simple items, before she'd been distracted by a small blonde figure in the book shop. Midii.]
P'tite, [She said softly as she approached the girl as she looked over a few books.] You should not be out.
no subject
[A moment later, she realized who it was behind her and let out the breath she'd been holding. Her heart still pounded in her chest, and she immediately felt remorseful for the instinctive reaction.]
Eponine.
I...you surprised me.
no subject
But I stand by my statement. You, Midii, should not be out. It is dangerous.
no subject
I know.
I was at one of the cafes near my apartment when the bombs went off that day.
no subject
Come. [She takes her hand.] we shall not talk of that here.
no subject
[She nodded absently, allowing the older girl to gently lead her out of the store. The book she had been glancing at was long forgotten.]
no subject
Somewhere out of the way. We shall talk there.
no subject
The park?
I doubt many children would be out and playing right now.

I was at the bakery earlier. I have some bread we can eat while we talk.
no subject
[She leads her in the direction of the park. It doesn't take too long to get there, and once she spots the tree, Eponine wastes no time in sitting.]
Sit!
no subject
[She broke it in half, offering the larger piece to Eponine.]
Here.
no subject
You said you were in a cafe? [She's more concerned, than anything.]
no subject
I wasn't hurt badly. Some scrapes and bruises. Nothing broken.
And... [Her brows furrowed, recalling the memory clear in her mind.] There was a boy. I'd seen him before. He was wearing a mask. He helped me and some of the others who were worse off.
no subject
[She pauses, raising an eyebrow.]
A boy in a mask?
no subject
[A strange experience, but one she wouldn't have been willing to turn down.]
It was good he was there. A lot of people got the help they needed because of him. And he showed me how to get to a safe house.

But I'm glad too. And very grateful. I only wish I could have thanked him afterwards.
no subject
I am sure you will find a way to thank him.
Now, you must eat. [She gestures to her bread]
no subject
And why is it, each time we meet up, you make it sound like I never do?
[But she did comply with the request, breaking off a small piece initially and popping it into her mouth. It was sweet. Slightly dry, but nothing a few sips of water could fix.]
no subject
[She cracks a slight smile.]
I am looking out for you. You are a small girl, and it makes me happy to see you eat.
no subject
For the record, I have gained weight. I checked.
no subject
[Eponine, meanwhile, has reverted to her all-too skinny weight, following her two months of hell.]
no subject
What about you?
no subject
Me? No, I have lost weight, if I ever gained it here.
