EVENT | LANDFALL | IOA ELANAG MINGLE LOG
Characters: ALL!
Date: October 20th - ongoing
Location: Ioa Elanag
Situation: Tu Vishan has come to a rest at the edge of a previously unexplored continent.
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.

The empty coastline and rocky beach they disembark to seems untouched, and fish school plentifully in the shallows without fear, something that the kedan are quick to take advantage of.
Once they move away from the shoreline, the landscape quickly turns to savannah scrubland, the arid sand a deep ochre colour. The grasses that grow there are thin and spindly, adapted to what appears to be a lack of water. Although the temperature is cool -- though not cold, despite the lateness of the month in a northern hemisphere -- it would be easy to extrapolate that it would be extremely dry and hot in the summer months.
Like the schools of fish, the wildlife here seem untroubled by the presence of newcomers, unless overtly threatening moves are made toward them. In addition to a host of different types of birds -- which all seem to be hunting each other, and openly cannibalistic -- there are a few types of species which become familiar sights to explorers.
---
Some three miles inland, well within the range that Tu Vishan's protective aura extends to power the soul gems, a city stands quietly, surrounded by a massive wooden stockade. There are no roads or trails which lead to it, as if the city was simply dropped from the sky. This wall is hewn from logs larger than most have ever seen in their lives -- easily as big as the oldest redwoods or sequoias on earth, and many larger even than that.
They've all been cut precisely, ingeniously locked together so that no bindings or fillings have needed to be used to hold it together. Certainly, they're nothing like the scraggly, bent things seem to be growing in the area, which are only deemed trees by virtue of being marginally taller than bushes. The height of the wall is easily fifty feet, encompassing a square area of approximately a mile on each side, and there is one gate which is closed, but not locked, and is in impeccable shape.

LOCAL WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS
The first, which is what the kedan claim to be the most notable thing about Ioa Elanag are, in fact, rabbits. These creatures are about the size of a cat, and have appendages which resemble wings along the sides of their bodies, although they cannot seem to fly with them. They're pale white with dark spotting across their coats, which given the landscape colour scheme, doesn't seem like it would lend itself well to the species' ability to survive. They are herbivores, and although they appear to be on the dumb prey side, they'll become easily docile if offered food.
Munga (image)
The second type of common wildlife is a spiny lizard about the size of a rat, who are very aggressive, venomous, and good at camouflage... not a good combination for anyone who happens to be walking by. In fact, they'll even charge at passing legs and feet, regardless of how large or intimidating the opponent is! Their spines secrete a toxin that causes a variety of symptoms, everything from mild hallucinations to an extreme sensitivity to light, sound, or smell. They are carnivores and prey mostly on the small rabbit-like creatures, using their venom to disorient their prey until they end up keeling over in the dirt.
Aphaufa (image)
The largest of the local wildlife are hulking creatures larger than elephants and which typically roam in herds of 5-10 individuals. They are omnivores, although grazing on the shaggy grasses seem to make up the bulk of their diet. Should they come across the rabbit creatures, whether living or dead, they'll eat those too! They are supremely unimpressed by the new visitors, and will generally move off if approached... but will wheel and charge if provoked. With a thick hide and stocky build vaguely reminiscent of a woolly bison, even blades and bullets can be turned aside. They don't seem inclined to be troublesome, but they're not something you want to be on the receiving end of.

Once she deemed herself to be close enough, without drawing the ire of the beasts should she be spotted, Valdis laid down on her belly, paws tucked under her for a quick escape if one of them charged. They were large, loafing animals, but that didn't mean that they lacked speed. Not something she particularly wanted to discover today. Or tomorrow.
She watched them carefully, sometimes with normal sight and occasionally with soul sight, just to see if their souls were significantly different from each other, anything that might offer evidence of advanced sentience. Eventually her head dropped to her paws and she dozed lightly, though she didn't know for how long. The sound of approaching footsteps barely roused her, though her emerald eyes did open and an ear twitched.
It's dangerous to sneak up on a Hellhound you know.
no subject
Calm down there, Peridot. Hellhounds don't eat stringbeans.
no subject
You wouldn't be much of a meal, little one.
Her tail flicked with amusement and her head lowered back onto her paws, though she was wide awake now and her eyes stayed on Peridot.
no subject
Peridot got to her feet slowly, keeping a wary eye on the self-professed hellhound. "You're not from this continent, are you."
no subject
Her tone was amused, she had thought that only the newest foreigners hadn't known about her shifting, but apparently some were still oblivious.
no subject
"Oh yeah? Then how come I've never seen you before?" Peridot crosses her arms.
Leaving aside the fact that she knows your name, triangle head...
no subject
Another yawn.
i love this petulant little stringbean
Well, that's half-true.
<3
Is that so?
no subject
"Y-yeah!" she said, puffing out her narrow chest and trying not to think about the fact that she was about half as tall as this thing, even accounting for her hair. "That's right!"
Oh, what she wouldn't give for her limb enhancers.
no subject
Valdis takes a step toward Peridot, head dropping to look her straight in the eyes.
no subject
She's lying - there's fear radiating off of her, but she's trying like hell not to show it.
no subject
Her head lifts again, turning to look at the strange mammoth creatures. They had moved away now, probably due to Peridot's noise.
no subject
She made sure to try and put a little bass in her voice. It did absolutely nothing.
no subject
And yet Valdis made no move to retreat.

no subject
I'm sorry, did you just tell me to 'shoo'?
no subject
Peridot scowled and hunched her shoulders, trying to look big and menacing.
It didn't work.
no subject
You are toeing a dangerous line, little one.
no subject
She didn't want to test that today.
"So, how do I, how do I, how do I, ah...not do that?" she squeaked, dropping the bravado.
no subject
For starters, you shouldn't sneak up on a sleeping Hound.
Her head lifted and tail lowered.
And I definitely wouldn't tell them to 'shoo'. Especially after sneaking up on them.

A flock of Bibiru
This lot were much easier to coax than the wary doves of the castle, and the savvy pigeons back in the city. A scattering of breadcrumbs was invitation enough for a few of them to approach and it wasn't long until she was able to stroke their fluffy little heads.
CW: Half naked spider lady
unwelcome reminder of The Stalk's childhood, growing up on Demimonde. Open fields, small critters. She wished she had a hunting rifle, a little more precise than the shotgun she was packing.
Still, it got the job done.
There was a sound of gunfire from a good distance off as she got one of those winged rabbit things. She casually walked up to collect her prey.
Fear is how I fall
There is only rage.
Her clawed toes scrape the dirt below her as she flexes every bone in her body. Anxious. Impatient. Thirsty. She surveys the scrubland from a hill, spotting a herd of Aphaufa not too far away. Her vision focuses, and there's nothing she wants more than to tear them apart.
She tenses, pulling forward, and then explodes out in a feral scream that floods the scrubland, startling the Aphaufa, easily audible from miles away. Rage irriadiates around Valkyr, blue energy claws extend from her wrists, and she tears down the hill straight for the herd. For the discomfort her scream caused, they had little care for the much smaller Valkyr, which changed quickly as the nearest got it's first wound, Valkyr's claws tearing even through its thick, armored hide.
An enraged counter attack followed, which Valkyr didn't even try to block. It's mass collided with her, sending her flying backward two dozen yards, smashing into the ground and rolling back. She got up, not even having felt the impact, and charged again.
