[But of course Korra knows that. Lin crosses her arms, as much for the familiarity of the motion as anything else, and lets the door shut behind her. Her expression is impassive--or as impassive as she can make it. There's still a trace of annoyance there, if Korra bothers to look hard enough.]
I've been talking to someone named Kyle Rayner. I believe the two of you are...acquainted.
no subject
Not formally.
[It was said drawn out look to the right. They actually didn’t even exchange names. Korra knew about him from Zatanna and she was sure Kyle knew about her from Amon.]
Was anybody hurt? [It was asked with concern. Korra had been unconscious and was only gathering a blanket to take back to Jack’s suite, and Lin managed to arrive at the same time.]
no subject
[Her lips thin slightly.] But you should have thought of that before you did what you did. Korra, what were you thinking?
no subject
Kind of hard to think when there’s posters on the walls advertising Amon’s illegal chi-blocking! Those green rings let him set up shop right there in that clinic. And a friend of mine was there, he was sick while they did it!
[Her hands tightly gripped fistfuls of the blanket as she spoke.]
I didn’t know what to think when I saw that. I just- I don’t know!
no subject
So you thought trying to destroy the clinic with your friend--to say nothing of anyone else--still in it was the most reasonable course of action.
[She's the wrong person for this. By all rights it should be Tenzin's job to keep the Avatar in line, not hers. But he's not here, and she can't help but feel she needs to do the best she can in his stead.
Her gaze softens imperceptibly.] I'm not blaming you for getting angry. But you should know--the Green Lanterns aren't keeping him around because they agree with him.
no subject
You’re the first. Everyone’s blaming me for getting angry, they don’t know how hard it is not to when he’s running around in the open. I think I liked it better when he was underground.
[Korra folds the blanket so it’s thinner and tosses it over her shoulder.]
Yeah, well their actions are speaking louder than their words. Just because chi-blocking isn’t illegal here doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous, and not just to us either. Others have powers that use their chi, even if they call it something else. Besides, who made them the police and Amon’s supposed baby-sitter anyway?
[Taking a moment to roll her neck back and sigh, she finally just lets her had drop and hang in the air.]
It just feels like everyone doesn’t care what he did or that he could even do worse here.
no subject
It's easy for them to dismiss Amon. They haven't grown up with bending--or even around benders. To them, bending's just a useful tool, and chi-blocking probably seems like a sensible precaution to them, especially when Amon's couching it as a self-defense class.
[She shakes her head.] Considering we both arrived here after he did, I'm just glad someone had the sense to keep an eye on him. If he's forced out into the open, so much the better. I know it's infuriating seeing his face everywhere, but this way we won't have to guess where his next attack is coming from.

Chief B- Lin. [Weird.] If Amon doesn’t want someone to keep an eye on him, he won’t let them. There’s a reason he’s working with these green rings, even if they are “keeping an eye on him”. Just because they’re powerful doesn’t mean they should be in charge of him, especially if they appointed themselves.
[Pulling at one end of the blanket so it was draped over her shoulders, Korra spun the desk chair nearby around to sit down.]
I think he’s manipulating them. Trying to study them so he knows when their guard is down. [At least that’s what she suspected even though there was no actual way to know.] What if he gets one of their rings? What then?
[She was grateful she could tell her concerns to Lin. After all, she had been right about Hiroshi when there was no evidence otherwise. Slamming her back into the chair, Korra groaned.]
Nothing good will come out of what they’re doing.
no subject
[Still, her expression doesn't change as Korra explains her theory. As farfetched as the idea of it sounds, she can see Amon doing it. Besides, she's trusted the Avatar's judgment before, and it's paid off.]
I'm going to keep talking to Rayner. We seemed to get along when we spoke. I'll have to see if I can learn a little more about what their rings can do. You're right--it would be like Amon to play the long game.
[Still, her eyebrows draw into a minute frown.] What Amon's also good at, though, is influencing public opinion. It sounds like he's already been hard at work here, and the locals' opinion of him is favorable. I'm afraid your little show of force today did our side no favors.
no subject
I’ll try not to lose it next time. [Even though Amon was so very easy for her to hate. After a beat, Korra decided she could tell Lin about her immediate plans.]
I’m not going to be here for the next couple of days, I’ll be staying at a friend’s place in the Wood Sector: WO-3A. He’s the one who picked me up- while I was out. To give some time to, you know, cool down.
[A smirk at the pun was unavoidable.]
no subject
And you're going to apologize to Rayner. So far, he hasn't done anything to deserve being attacked like that.
[She frowns a little at Korra's next comment--in thought, not in annoyance.] You mean Jack. [The pun flies right over her head--she hasn't met the boy yet, after all.] I'll keep that in mind.
no subject
You already know Jack? [Having avoided the network entirely, Korra instantly assumed Lin had met him. A full second passes when she realized Kyle probably told her.] Yeah. Just in case something comes up.
no subject
I don't know him--I've just seen his posts on the network. If you think he's trustworthy, I'll defer to your judgment.
[She doesn't mean to come off as paranoid, and she wouldn't go so far as to question Korra's choice of friends. But new city, new rules, and after recent events, she's not sure where any of the benders stand as far as public opinion is concerned. It's awkward.]
no subject
Well, he’s been really nice and helpful.
[A beat.]
I haven’t told Toph anything yet, but you can if you think it’s better sooner rather than later. I don’t want her to come under any fire because of this.
[Korra was well aware her actions didn’t give benders the greatest reputation boost.]
no subject
[A slight frown.] If I can't dissuade her, the least I can do is keep an eye on her during her lessons.
no subject
[Toph WHAT?]
WHAT?
no subject
She said she'd told--
[Her eyes narrow slightly.]
--she didn't tell you.
no subject
NO. She didn’t.
[That look stayed for a solid second, when suddenly it washed away. The dawn of realization of what it took to learn a martial art.]
She can’t! [Korra blinked numerous times as she looked at Lin.] They’ll have to use it on her if she’s trying to learn it. Then she won’t be able to see…
[And Korra had seen Toph when she didn’t have her bending. It was hard enough to accept back then too.]
You’re just going to let her??
no subject
I was going to ask you to come with me and track her to wherever Amon plans on holding his lessons. I still don't know where it is, and the Green Lanterns aren't about to tell anyone who knew Amon before he arrived here.
no subject
[Looking away at the mention of looking for Toph, Korra stood up and yanked the blanket off her shoulders.]
Sorry, I can’t. I really need some time to think. [To feel safe.] It’s been a really long morning. [And a really wrong one at that.]
If you do find her though, let me know at Jack’s.
no subject
[She nods at Korra's response, her expression stern but not unsympathetic. That was the answer she'd been expecting--to be fair, she'd intended to ask Korra before this entire mess with the clinic happened.]
Take your time, Korra. I'll keep you updated.
