The only ones who do not think like I do are fools. Or they are soft, and do not deserve to survive the realities of the world.

[Aisha twisted one hand, intent on dislocating her thumb so she could slide it free of the shackles. There was a slight, sickening pop as she did it, but not a single grimace of pain on her features as she pulled her hand free.]

I do not live, girl. I survive. Learn the difference.

[alphatar]

[Watching her work towards her escape, Korra just closed her eyes for a moment, then pushed hand down gently so the other earth shackle released her and receded back into the ground. She wasn’t about to have Aisha hurt herself further if Korra could avoid it.]

I’ve survived before. We kind of have to back home at the South Pole, and it didn’t involve anything like what you’re doing.

[Looking at Aisha’s disfigured thumb, Korra offered before even thinking:]

I can heal that.

[emasculates]

Then you were not in war.

[She cocked an eyebrow at her newfound freedom, but although her uninjured hand twitched nearer to her handgun, she did not draw it from its holster.]

This?

[She reached for the thumb with her other hand, snapped the joint back into place and then spread her fingers to show there was no harm. The joint was sore, of course, and the muscles around it strained, but she had performed the action often enough that it was nothing that would cause her lasting discomfort. At least, none she could not ignore.]

It is fine.

[alphatar]

No, we weren’t. The Avatar before me ended the Hundred Year War without killing anyone. That’s what I have to do too.

[When she reset her thumb, Korra couldn’t help but watch. There had been much worse injuries, but everyone on her world had always seen a healer before doing anything like that themselves. Taking her hand off the makeshift bandage and putting on her knee, Korra leaned forward in her sitting position to get a different angle on her thumb.]

I can prevent it from bruising.

[She couldn’t help but offer. Even though Aisha was the one who popped it out of place, Korra was the one who put her in that situation. So to her, it was kind of her fault. Still, it hadn’t registered that she hadn’t any water to work with.]

[emasculates]

[And so, wordless, Aisha holds out her hand. She's more curious than anything. Septimus has healed her as well, and she wants to know if there are any similarities between the two processes.]

[alphatar]

[Korra was completely unable to hide her surprise. She absent mindedly reached for her waterskin, which wasn’t there. Looking down at her hip, she had remembered she brought nothing along for this trip.]

Um-

[Korra started to pat her person and her arm stung when she did so. Wincing, she looked at it and the blood soaked bandage for a very long time.]

…

[Swallowing hard, she looked back up to Aisha.]

I need liquid in order to heal…

[emasculates]

[She tipped her head to one side like a predator, calculating. Hard to miss the way Korra focused briefly on the blood, and then away. And then the careful word choice - liquid rather than water. For Septimus, it was water, and it had not occurred to her at the time that other liquids might also be permissible for use.

She studied Korra, her posture and expression and the language of her body. A moment passes before she speaks.]

Then forget it. It will heal regardless of your intervention.

[alphatar]

[Breathing a sigh of relief, Korra was glad to get away from the thought she just had. If Aisha insisted, Korra wasn’t sure where that would have went. Just that it wasn’t anywhere she wanted to be.]

Sorry. [She said as she adjusted her legs to bear her weight before standing up.]

I usually carry water with me, just in case. But I didn’t think I would need it out here. [She wasn’t expecting to find a massive gang fight either.]

I just needed a place to earthbend where I wouldn’t disturb anyone.

[emasculates]

[Aisha shrugs, indifferent to Korra's relief.]

And what of them?

[She points to the kedan left alive and imprisoned. Her instinct is to shoot them, but she's curious to see what the girl will say now that she knows their true respective natures.]

[alphatar]

[After dusting off the bottom of her pants, Korra looked over to the kedan. A strong urge to punt the whole stone cylinder off into the distance was tempting.

Too tempting.

With a two step lead-in, Korra threw a kick that came up to the side of her head and they took off into the air, over the cliff she had slid down. She knew they were protected from any fatal injuries, and they would survive the others ones. The racket would match the sounds that she had received complaints about and the threat to call the police would be followed through with.]

They’ll be found eventually.

[emasculates]

[That? That gets her to smirk. Regardless of the girl's morality, she can obviously be taught, and that settles her for the time being. She nods.]

And what of you?

[alphatar]

Me? [Meeting Aisha in person really drove home that what Korra was facing at the moment should be addressed without reservation. Dodging it wasn’t helping anything.]

I think I should go home, heal up, and own up to what I did in this sector a few days ago. Make everyone shut up about it so we can focus on more important things, like this. [Not until today had Korra even heard about a slave trade going on in Keeliai. It made the clinic seem like a useless squabble.

Then a thought struck Korra.]

Did you do one of Evandau’s missions? [Korra had a hard time picturing Aisha work on a team with anyone, let alone be told what to do by any officers.]

[emasculates]

[Aisha studies the girl further, and then makes a faint noise of approval, turning away from her immediately thereafter so she can walk nearer to the cliff and track the way the kedan would have tumbled downward. That is an efficient way of dealing with them, all things considered.]

No. I do not take orders from anyone, much less a prison warden.

[alphatar]

[A prison, Korra had never thought of the turtle and the Emperor's rule over it as such before.]

I didn't think so. [The sounds of the police arriving caught Korra's attention and spared them a glance before looking back after Aisha.]

I'm trusting you, you know.

[There was little doubt about where she was going, but Korra held on to that little bit of it. She stayed behind to keep the police occupied while Aisha left. With her recent mission's success, she would get a ride home to the Metal Sector.]
