Nope.

I asked [More like demanded.] why they would ever let him do it, but he didn’t give me an answer. I’m not about to ask again anytime soon.

[Licking the gums of her upper teeth, fetching any food that may have gotten trapped up there, Korra had a sudden thought.]

Why, did they say anything about it on the network?

[He shook his head.] Nothing on the subject of chi-blocking. I almost wish they had; I would have liked to hear their reasoning.

Yeah, well I’m sure it has something to do with “We have the right and authority to do what we want because this ringy thingy.”

[The last part was said with rich sarcasm as Korra moved her hand as if it was talking. What she had taken away from Damian’s information about the Green Lantern Corps hadn’t won her over in the slightest. Quite the opposite actually.]

[Richard pressed his lips together so he wouldn't laugh.] That may be where they take their legitimacy from, but it isn't a reason for a policy. Whether or not they've thoroughly considered the issue, they must have some reason to think it acceptable, even if that is only a friendship with Amon.

Trust me, Amon isn’t a friendship kind of guy.

[Korra remembered quite clearly how little Amon care about his lieutenant learning that the masked revolutionist had lied to him, betrayed him, and then knocked the stuffing out of him without throwing a punch. She sneered.]

Whatever it is, it’s just stupid and going bite them in the ass.

[Korra took the rest of her water down in one gulp.]

I’ve got a good “I told you so.” Saved up for this one.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that. [It was a complicated issue; that was why Richard felt certain it couldn't be left like this.] If there is no discussion and understanding on this, I fear what consequences there may be—consequences that cannot be fixed.

Oh we already tried that discussion and understanding part. [Korra tried to yell sense into her and Kyle tried to calmly command her to stop and accept that were self-defense classes. That was probably as close as they would get to talking about the issue.]

Personally, I’m just glad you didn’t give me the talking to that everyone else is giving me. Thanks for the toast by the way, I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t like it. I mean, it might take a few tries to get used to it, but I can taste the potential. Like when you hear a song and it takes a couple of listens before you really like it.

[And then you listen to it forty times in a row. Which would make anyone sick if they did that with food.]

I don't think you particularly need a lecture from me. [There were flaws in how Korra approached this, Richard felt, but that was something that could only be slowly negotiated. A talking to would not serve her and had doubtless been tried by others who better understood the situation

He brightened at the comment about natto.] I'm glad you think so! So many people don't give it a chance because of the smell. I'm certain they'd warm up to it if they were willing to try it more often.

[And in that moment, Korra became Richard's new best friend.]

Hey, I don’t either. [The agreement was meant playfully and given with a grin.]

Maybe if they try adding just a little bit to their food so it’s not too noticeable, and then just slowly add more? That might work. [Korra placed her hand on her thighs and leaned in slightly.]

Asbel doesn’t like it, does he?

[He smiled in echo of her grin, but her proposal bore serious consideration. To slowly introduce it into their food . . . yes, that may work.

He was distracted thinking of this that he looked up, almost startled, at her question. He lowered the finger from his mouth that he didn't realize he'd been putting there in thoughtfulness.] No, Asbel does not. But your proposal has merit. If perhaps we could find a way to mix natto into curry . . . Cheria knew how, but I lack her ability as a chef.
