[When he relaxes, just that little bit, Korra wondered how long it had been since he even let something like that happen. Awkward as his motions were, Korra did like the dry humor. It let her know that it was okay to not be serious around him constantly.]

Doing the right thing, even if it gets you in trouble? Yeah, I think we have a lot in common. [That was usually what ended with Korra’s lectures. Even when she left to go see the pro-bending matches, it turned out for the best. The modern fighting styles of bending complimented the traditional ones quite well. Even Tenzin could refute that one.]

We can work on the spiritual stuff together. Should be easy since there are actually spirits here on the turtle.

[As he listed off the forms, Korra tried to place them, but the only one that sounded familiar was the first one. Dinah had showed her that it was just like:]

Water! [After blurting that out, she quickly followed it up so he didn’t get lost, or worse, think that she just randomly blabbed elements without reason.] Tai chi, that’s the form of Water on other worlds!

[Bruce might be almost unfailingly serious, except for when he turns his humor on himself in wry self-mocking, but he doesn't usually mind too much when others aren't. He doesn't want any authority and doesn't try to impose his opinions on others, and expects that same respect in return. It's probably why his approach toward Korra has worked out so well-- he wants her to make her own decisions, and is merely offering his experiences as suggestion.

He doubts they have all that much in common, but he's not going to mar her enthusiasm, just lets his smile turn a shade more wry. He hopes they don't have that much in common, at least. He wouldn't wish that on Korra.]

I'm actually okay with the, not so spiritual, [he says calmly, not getting into the difficulties of being a staunch atheist on a magical Asian themed turtle.] But it's definitely a component around here. [He is interested in learning about it academically, in betterment of understanding his environment and the rules of reality here.

Then he turns mild surprise on her.] Really? That's... convenient. It's pretty good for meditation. And most of the martial arts I know because they're centered around defusing conflict, instead of escalating. [With what she already knows about him, Bruce is sure she can guess why.]

[An important component here, especially when it came to Asti or Malicant, both who were spiritual in a different way than Korra was used to. A lofty, not nearly as serious, grin comes across Korra’s face.] I’m still the bridge to the Spirit World, even without knowing a whole lot, I think I might be able to get some assistance from past Avatars here and there. [That was a whole other can of worms she didn’t want to fully open just yet.]

Then I guess we should stay away from Fire. Or North Showling Kung Fu. Sholun? [Squinting an eye, Korra tried to remember what it was exactly Dinah had called.] Either way, it focuses on strength, force, speed, and anticipation for combat. Water though, yeah, that sounds about right. [Having learned her innate element from the most understanding and patient teacher allowed Korra to master it even more so than firebending. Still, she favored firebending because it came so easily to her, and even though she was technically a master of the element, lightning was still beyond her reach.]

Maybe you can teach me some of those martial arts too if we have time? I wonder how they would affect bending…

[Definitely a thought she stowed away for later.]

So okay Bruce, when do we start all of this? [She’s more than happy to lock him into her schedule.] I have a home gym, a practice area, and a meditation room set up at my house in case the weather gets too bad to be outside.

[There's the immediate question of what is an Avatar? that Bruce doesn't ask. It seems like it's going to be a large topic, and he doesn't really feel compelled to get into it. The conversation's already moving on, and he's fine with that.]

Shaolin, [he corrects, assuming that's what she means. He's spent enough time in China to know it by name.] I don't know anything about, uh, bending, but we can see what works. Fire might be useful for, letting some of it out on purpose, like I said.

[Whoa, now he's suddenly part of a schedule. Bruce doesn't think he signed on for this, and suddenly turns hesitant, feeling like he doesn't know what he's getting himself into.] Let's just do weekly, [he prevaricates, resigning himself to this much at least.] I'll just check in with you and see how you're doing. But you should really get used to doing the exercises on your own.

[That's the whole point of anger management, after all. You have to be able to do it independently, outside of the controlled circumstances you learn it in.]

[Korra nodded at his mention of using Fire, her small smile at ‘letting it out on purpose’ was something she was looking forward to. Anything that further honed her mastery of Fire was definitely something Korra approved of.]

All right! I can do weekly. Any day is good for me, so whenever you have free time or just want to have some grub and talk, we can do that too.

[She was quite sure by now that he wasn’t the very talkative type, but offering it was the first and only step she was going to take on that right now. Openly talking was an important thing in training, it wasn’t something she had learned until her tutelage under Tenzin.]

[Now he's being signed up for socializing. Bruce feels a little like he'd dipped his toes into the water and then gotten dragged in full force. But he doesn't mind, exactly-- he thinks Korra is worth helping if anyone is, and as he's just said, he's terrible at resisting the impulse to help.

He can't help a slight smile at her, resigning himself even further.] I'm usually in my lab in Fire at Stark Industries. [Practically an open invitation to stop in and harass him when she feels like it.] I don't know how well my methods will work for you, but I do know one thing. Trying to keep it all in isn't going to work.

When I have a better understanding of your powers I can try to be more specific.

[At the mention of Stark Industries, Korra brightened. There had been nothing but good experiences there from both Tony, before he left, and with Pepper; whom Korra was fond of. The lab wasn’t surprising considering how he came up with the hydroponics garden and the success that came with it.]

Hey, your methods sound awesome to me. [Actually making use of her anger in small, controlled bursts sounded very handy to her. Bottling it all in had been a disaster in the past and never worked, and the fact that he had offered alternatives made Korra excited.]

I can show you bending anytime you want now that we have our powers back, just let me know. [Unfolding her legs to stand up, Korra patted him on the shoulder, firmly, but not had.] I’ll let you get back to your stuff. [Now that she knew how important it was to him.]

I’ll be giving you the full report next time, all right? [She made her way back to the square of sidewalk she had used as an elevator, and Korra waved at him as it lowered her below the edge of the roof when the sound of it moving suddenly stopped.]

Oh, and tell Pepper I said hi, okay? [Her hair, eyes and nose peeked over the edge to deliver that message. She waved once more and the sound of the stone being moved was heard again, her hand waving before it too was lowered out of sight.]

[The contact is a little unexpected, but Bruce doesn't mind; mostly he's left bemused, watching her walk away and give him an impromptu demonstration of bending right after saying that she'd be willing to any time.

He waves back vaguely, feeling a little like he just got steamrolled into a commitment without even realizing he was doing it. At least it's for a good cause, he tells himself dryly, reluctantly amused despite himself as he closes his eyes, returns his hands to their mudra, and goes back to breathing.

This time, pondering how he could teach this to someone else.]
