Event | Landfall | Dreaming

Characters: Any and every!
Date: August 10th - 31, 2013
Location: The realm of Dreaming as accessed via Sinbrilee
Situation: Dreaming is but one of the three realms and here characters are subject to their fanciful thoughts.
Warnings/Rating: Please place content warnings in subject headers!

Sinbrilee | Dreaming | Death

Life. Dreaming. Death. Three realms overlaid upon one another and yet each distinctly their own. They dwell in Life and do so live upon the back of the great turtle as those of Sinbrilee did upon the shell of his sister. However, there stand numerous arches of marble throughout the ruined city that are inlaid with runes beyond understanding. Those that live and breathe which step through those whose runes glow with faint, iridescent light tread instead into the realm of Dreaming.

Here, there exists no single defining characteristic beyond the visitor's imagination. The landscape sculpts to their individual thoughts, the events to their dreams. From a drab gray nothing to the most brilliant of displays, the senses perceive all that they wish to perceive for all that nothing here truly exists. This far from Tu Vishan, the ability to shape their surroundings is all they have, for Sinbrilee's Dreaming does not have the energy to sustain powers, only the bodies of those that dwell here.

Should two parties near, then the Mesh begins. Dreams, you see, not only can be shared, but they strive to be. These visions sculpted into reality reach out for one another and blend. They begin an exchange akin to a linking of the minds, within which one visitor can learn the other's deepest thoughts. Their limitation is but compatibility, for two minds that cannot flow upon the same current cannot hold the Mesh.

Happiness or loss, the landscape and events play out memories and fancies with a most convincing air. The mood rises and falls with the tide of the visitor's mind, detached as they are from the soothing influence of a great turtle's mind. Nothing here, however, is real; 'constructs' simply fade if taken through the archways and even the greatest scientific minds or tools will reveal nothing of its source. This is an ancient magic of an ancient realm, long practised in concealing itself from any prying.

Note: Due to the fluid and highly individual nature of Dreaming, no official subheaders will be provided in the comments of this post. Feel free to post and thread however you like, so long as the rules of Dreaming are adhered to.

You said you wanted a redo, not a rewrite.

[ There's a tiny bit of sass in her voice, though she does her best to hide it behind the neutrality. ]

[personal profile] jirk 2013-08-10 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[He smiles a bit, at that sass in her tone. Hard to miss it here. Everything's stripped down, reduced to its basic components. Jim's relaxed and peaceful here, but it's the peace that comes from weariness. And god, he's so tired. Being here is a nice break, and it leeches the worst of his worries from the set of his shoulders.]

Caught me. Semantics, right? Who knew.

[He gives her a considering look.]

So what're you doing here, anyway?

[ Now that she's settling in more to being here and talking with him, her mind is filtering through a bit better. Beneath her stillness and the emotion of the moment is a sort of old, slow, sadness. The Archives don't go crazy anymore, but five thousand years is still such a burden, life without end to some extent. It shows most clearly in her eyes which have always looked a bit out of place anyway.

Perhaps a bit odder is her own image. As if there's a piece of glass behind her, vague reflections of people show up around her outline. An elbow here, a curl of hair there. Translucent and clearly intangible, never replacing or obscuring her features, but clearly a part of her. The reflections of Archives past. ]

I'm not entirely sure. This is not something I have done or have the ability to do. Or the desire to do.

[ She's a very private person, she would never purposefully put her mind so close to anyone else's. ]
jirk: (Default)

[personal profile] jirk 2013-08-10 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hard to miss it, really. But although Jim studies it, he doesn't dwell on it. He's a private person too, at the core. He pretends otherwise, but he doesn't let people in. He doesn't like letting people in. Don't get him wrong, he's hardly a misanthrope. Jim thinks the best of humanity and will continue to do so no matter what.

But some things... some things he keeps to himself.]

What, why not? Come on, dreamwalking seems pretty cool, right?

[ Instead of answering his question directly, she looks around her at the scenery, taking in in with care. She doesn't like missing things, and there's so much to see here that it takes far more attention and time than usual to do so to the point where she's satisfied. Sort of. Probably she could spend and hour walking through just this room and looking at every panel, console, nook and cranny. But she does turn her attention back to him after not too long. ]

This is your ship?

My girl.

[He says that with all the pride and love and bursting joy of something akin to fatherhood.]

The Enterprise. Second of her name, she's a Constitution-class heavy cruiser.

[ His tone and words spark some curiosity in her. His emotion is something she knows from memories, but has never experienced herself. It's sort of like looking at an exhibit in a museum, something curious and foreign which has no chance of happening in her life. In her opinion, that ship sailed off with her mother. But she shifts her attention away from that and back toward the ship, and gives a nod. ]

She's very... cool.

[ It's such a colloquial term, but she can't think of a better way to put it. ]
jirk: (Default)

[personal profile] jirk 2013-08-10 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, that earns her a smile.]

She is super cool. Wanna see the rest of her? This is just one piece, she's 365.8 meters long.

[And he gets to his feet with purpose and nods to the lift.]

Gotta be that right there.

Okay, what's your second favorite?

[personal profile] jirk 2013-08-20 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Engineering. It's actually what I was writing my thesis on before the whole captaincy thing.

[He smiles a little.]

See, it's always been my thought that a captain should know everything their ship can do, just in case, right? You should know what you can rely on and what you can't, because one day you might be doing it alone.

[ Oh man he is winning points in her book right here. Ivy has great appreciation for people who exercise their brain to the extent it can. ]

Why would a captain ever do it alone? Wouldn't there always be a crew around to assist?

[Deer in headlights, meet Jim Kirk. One of the weirdest things about being here is that he forgets sometimes the fact that no one really knows the Great Kirk Tragedy that defines his history so starkly. Christ, the Kelvin was course material at the Academy. A textbook case.

He exhales a little more sharply than he needs to, and reaches up to thumb at his nose. He could tell her. He doubts it's any worse than what she's seen throughout history. But she's still a little girl, and she doesn't need to carry his burdens too.]

Theoretically? Yeah. But I guess I just like the idea of-- you know, preparing for every possible probability, whether or not it's statistically unlikely. You can't play chess unless you know what all the pieces can do.

[ She notes the reaction, but doesn't push. There's a small part of her that does, wants to understand the things she doesn't, but it's crushed quickly, only a momentary flicker of curiosity in her eyes and a slight tilt of her head which she corrects with her next blink. Instead she nods. ]

That makes sense, preparation is important. Those who prepare have an advantage. I like being prepared.

[ That's sort of her thing. ]

Yeah, well. We've got that in common.

[He sees that curiosity, and chooses to run the other way from it. No thank you, he will not be discussing his dad. Not here, where everything's so perfect.

Jim claps his hands together with brisk enthusiasm.]

So. Engineering. You coming or not?

[ That's okay, she nopes right away from Feelings Land as well, it works for everyone. She gives a nod. ]

Lead the way. I would like to see how it functions.

[ No, she's actually really excited to see how it functions, thank you very much. ]

Have you guys discovered dilithium yet? It's called radan, too.

[Prepare for exposition, Ivy. Because Jim has no problem whatsoever babbling about his ship.]
constants: (can we have fangirl tuesdays?)

[personal profile] constants 2013-09-10 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect you do not mean "dilithium" as a strongly electrophilic, diatomic molecule comprising two lithium atoms covalently bonded together. In which case, no, we have not. Tell me about it.

[ Tell her all the science! She likes learning new things, and recently she's been a bit more leaning toward science with her work with Bruce Banner. ]

Nope. It's a hypersonic crystalline material. We use it for our warp engines because it-- [THERE ARE ANIMATED HAND GESTURES HERE] can manage the reaction of matter/antimatter. Pretty cool stuff.

[And this is the story of how he just dumps the entire (non-classified version) of Starfleet's history as relative to warp drives, dilithium, antimatter, etc. Proof positive that he didn't always sleep in class.]
