Event | Landfall | Dreaming

Location: The realm of Dreaming as accessed via Sinbrilee
Situation: Dreaming is but one of the three realms and here characters are subject to their fanciful thoughts.

Sinbrilee | Dreaming | Death

Life. Dreaming. Death. Three realms overlaid upon one another and yet each distinctly their own. They dwell in Life and do so live upon the back of the great turtle as those of Sinbrilee did upon the shell of his sister. However, there stand numerous arches of marble throughout the ruined city that are inlaid with runes beyond understanding. Those that live and breathe which step through those whose runes glow with faint, iridescent light tread instead into the realm of Dreaming.

Here, there exists no single defining characteristic beyond the visitor's imagination. The landscape sculpts to their individual thoughts, the events to their dreams. From a drab gray nothing to the most brilliant of displays, the senses perceive all that they wish to perceive for all that nothing here truly exists. This far from Tu Vishan, the ability to shape their surroundings is all they have, for Sinbrilee's Dreaming does not have the energy to sustain powers, only the bodies of those that dwell here.

Should two parties near, then the Mesh begins. Dreams, you see, not only can be shared, but they strive to be. These visions sculpted into reality reach out for one another and blend. They begin an exchange akin to a linking of the minds, within which one visitor can learn the other's deepest thoughts. Their limitation is but compatibility, for two minds that cannot flow upon the same current cannot hold the Mesh.

Happiness or loss, the landscape and events play out memories and fancies with a most convincing air. The mood rises and falls with the tide of the visitor's mind, detached as they are from the soothing influence of a great turtle's mind. Nothing here, however, is real; 'constructs' simply fade if taken through the archways and even the greatest scientific minds or tools will reveal nothing of its source. This is an ancient magic of an ancient realm, long practised in concealing itself from any prying.

Note: Due to the fluid and highly individual nature of Dreaming, no official subheaders will be provided in the comments of this post. Feel free to post and thread however you like, so long as the rules of Dreaming are adhered to.

Not unlike Traci's own magic, Jack had become attuned to the rhythm of Keeliai and could thus tell when her wandering disrupted it. Determined to find out what was causing tension in his city, he was understandably stunned to see a familiar face.

"... Traci? How did... you're back?"

[personal profile] urbanmagic 2013-08-20 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
For a moment, she had forgotten why she was here. This place was too devoid of some familiar faces that it felt completely disconnect from her, but seeing Jack was a relief. So there was someone here who weren't just the locals. That meant she's on the right track.

"It's--" She pauses, then scrutinizes him. This didn't seem like a nightmare yet, if it is at all. She can't just jump in with her usual display of 'It's not real! Snap out of it.' "Yeah, seems like it. Where is everyone?"

"Where is...?" Jack echoed, confusion overtaking the shock on his face. "Traci, everyone went home, a long time ago. There haven't been other Foreigners in Keeliai for-- over a hundred years, at least. But you, you still look the same...?"

"Don't think too hard on it. I live on being a special case," Weird though, if that's the dream. Why is he still here then?

"Why didn't you go home?"

"I... stayed," he said, floundering momentarily at the question before realizing he'd not answered anything with that reply. "I, it just made more sense for me to stay. Here, for the kids..."

[personal profile] urbanmagic 2013-09-01 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
"It made more sense?" That... was an interesting way of putting it. It was bizarre, looking at this place. Unlike Jack, she knew instantly she didn't belong here. It didn't feel right, but she couldn't place the why. Maybe the lack of magic? Not knowing the mood? It was still putting her off-balance.

"What do you mean by that?"

It seemed to take a moment for the Dream to catch up with her line of questioning and Jack looked oddly puzzled at the question. The Dream was like a living thing, constantly evolving, adapting. So after a moment, it seemed to click and Jack grinned, abruptly at ease once more.

"Because of all the kids here, I stayed. I'm a Guardian for all the kedan now, here on Tu Vishan. They needed one and I needed... them."

[personal profile] urbanmagic 2013-09-03 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
She pauses, trying to take in that statement. Sounded plausible? Maybe? She's not sure about that pause prior to them.

"You didn't want to go back?" That's what she's getting from that. She had an inkling he was fond of the kids, from her conversations with Zatanna, but didn't think it was enough to stay. Huh.

"If I'd gone back it wouldn't have been the same," Jack said, slinging his staff over his shoulder and gesturing for Traci to walk with him. "It's not like they needed me there... I mean, they got along just fine without me for the first three centuries so..."

[personal profile] urbanmagic 2013-09-05 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Traci doesn't hesitate to follow, pondering on this. Well, it's true that most people don't even seem to realize that there's a spirit of winter, but...

"So you decided to stay for the children." A pause as she considers this. "How long ago again?"
wintershepherd: (adorable)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-05 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. Besides, I didn't want to lose all this," he gestured around as though to encompass Keeliai as a whole. "Being able to talk to anyone, not to have to live out of sight and invisible... other people didn't have to think about that, when they went back home."

Jack considers the question, scratching his ear as he thinks. "One hundred and thirty four winters ago," he answers finally and then grins. "And hey, I introduced proper winters here! Like with good snows and everything. Only allowed for one month out of the year but hey, better than nothing."

[personal profile] urbanmagic 2013-09-06 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
... Wow, that made this mission a little harder than it should be. Well, okay, a lot harder, because he had a point. Gods, she forgot how old he can get. It must be lonely like that.

"And you don't look a day over the last time I saw you. You have got to share your secrets." Better than nothing, indeed. "Sounds about like what happens back on Earth, right? One month's cutting it a little short..."
wintershepherd: (pride)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-06 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"The kedan didn't like it at first," Jack answers sheepishly but with a grin that said it hadn't been all bad. "I think they're used to it now though. Hats with long tails, remember those? They're all the rage every winter."

He seemed to be either completely ignoring the strangeness of her being here, so long after he remembered them all leaving, byproduct of the Dream's hold on his mind.

[personal profile] urbanmagic 2013-09-06 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I remember. Never wore one myself, but..." She pauses as she tries to shake off the feeling of belonging. She was getting dragged into it too, and that's-- well, she doesn't know if that's a good or a bad thing.

"What's changed in the past century or so?"
wintershepherd: (observe)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-07 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Around Keeliai? Not too much. The thing about it being basically a closed society is that not much affects it. Oh, we had a hurricane about fifteen years ago though, that was kind of a mess."

A cadre of school-aged kedan children run across their path, calling greetings to Jack as they go. He raises a hand in a wave, watching them disappear around a corner.

[personal profile] urbanmagic 2013-09-09 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"How did a hurricane hit a place like this?" For a moment, she frowns, thinking. Details in dreams were not uncommon, but that wasn't something that comes up when you say peaceful. Still, she supposed realism is part of it, especially if one really wants to believe what's around them. "I thought Asti was in charge of everything that happens in here."
wintershepherd: (wonder)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-10 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"He couldn't out swim it," Jack answers easily, the Dream automatically drafting around his understanding of the imagined scenario. "Wild ride! But no one was hurt, things got put back together. The kedan, they really work together pretty well when they all want the same thing. It was like how all of us used to be."

Then a contemplative glance at Traci. "Did you come back so you could stay here too?"

[personal profile] urbanmagic 2013-09-16 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds like a joyride." She says easily, and her smile falters at the question. No, she wouldn't stay here even if she wanted to. She did find the appeal, honestly, but... it didn't have her dad or her friends. She wouldn't enjoy it as long as he has.

"Actually, I came here to get you out."
wintershepherd: (perplex)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-19 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack tilts his head, puzzled. "Out of what?" he inquired.
