Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

[mccallmemaybe]

[ Scott withdraws his hand as well. Sorry Annabeth, but Scott is a gentleman. ] Ladies first.

[sophos]

[She waves it off, literally, and reaches for a different thing entirely (though some of that's in distraction).] There's plenty. It's fine.

[mccallmemaybe]

Oh, okay, thanks. [ Scott takes the food he was originally going for after all. He looks around the amphitheater as he munches. ] Pretty cool location, huh?

[sophos]

[That successfully draws her in a little more closely. Because amphitheatre!!!] I've been trying to get inside here since we landed at this place. I wish we could have seen it in its heyday. The remaining archways are amazing. Imagine how much cooler it would be if it hadn't fallen into ruin?

[Getting carried away with a stranger, gj Annabeth.]

[mccallmemaybe]

[ Scott smiles at her enthusiasm. ] This place probably looked really beautiful back in the day... Not that it isn't now. I guess nothing stays in perfect condition though, especially when it comes to buildings...

[sophos]

[oh no encouragement...!] And especially given it seems like it's usually underwater, though it's hard to tell for exactly how long. That didn't help at all. [a pause.] Doesn't help at all, since it'll go right back the way it was before once Asti's done diving. But it's made of tough stuff to still be standing despite all that.

[mccallmemaybe]

Does Asti dive a lot? Sorry if that's a dumb question, I'm kinda new around here so I don't really know anything, other than what Percy's told me.

[sophos]

There's no such thing as a dumb question. [She says that matter-of-factly before continuing.] But there's no set pattern to how often he dives. He's only gone under once before in the time I've been here, but the kedan are pretty prepared, so it's a common enough occurrence. [A pause, the mention of Percy and the other boy's voice finally making something click, and she points.] You're the one he tried to spell the name of the creature for.

[mccallmemaybe]

[ Smiling at her first response, Scott nods as he listens to her answer his question, but looks surprised when he's pointed at and recognized. ] You were there? [ It clicks for him too. ] Are you his girlfriend? You may have been mentioned by him in the first five seconds of us talking.

[sophos]

[She waves a hand dismissively.] I was in the living room. [And then a grin sort of tugs at her lips, but she mostly holds it back. Mostly. Her boyfriend is dumb.] Yeah, that's me. I'm Annabeth. I didn't catch your name though?

[mccallmemaybe]

I'm Scott. It's nice to meet you, Annabeth.

So... are you kind of a god too?

[sophos]

Likewise. [She makes a bit of a face, but it's not aimed at him.] Demigod. Or Half-Blood. Yeah. I'm a daughter of Athena. [It never stops being weird being so open about this.]

[mccallmemaybe]

Goddess of... wisdom and war? [ Scott says this tentatively because he's gotten Greek gods mixed up before. ]

[sophos]

[She nods, but:] Warfare would be more accurate. Ares is the god of war in its rawest form, whereas Athena is more about strategic warfare and plans.

[mccallmemaybe]

What's it like, having a goddess as a mom?

[sophos]

[There's a pause, stretching out long enough to be potentially awkward.] Dangerous. [Honest enough without revealing too much of where her current feelings towards the gods are. Any demigod would give the same reply.]

[mccallmemaybe]

[ That's not the reply Scott was expecting. ] How dangerous?

[sophos]

The kind where monster attacks are a standard aspect of life. For starters.

[mccallmemaybe]

Doesn't having a god as a parent grant you some kind of protection?

[sophos]

On the contrary. It makes us the target, since they can't really go after the gods themselves. And the gods don't fight their kids' battles. [:T]

[mccallmemaybe]

Seriously? [ And here Scott thought having a god for a parent would be cool. ] That's terrible... I know it's better to fight your own battles but if it's a life or death situation, some help and protection would be nice. [ Especially from a parent. It should be in their nature to want to protect their child, not let them fend for themselves when their life is at stake. ] So you don't have the best relationship with your mom, then.

[sophos]

[Annabeth sort of keeps her expression even, but she bites the corner of her mouth.] We have a Camp, to train us, but we're supposed to get there mostly on our own. Sometimes the gods help on occasion, but they're not really supposed to, for whatever stupid reason. [Ahahaha the dreaded mother question, all too complicated right now. She stiffens, waves it off.] It doesn't matter.

[mccallmemaybe]

Like a summer camp? That almost sounds fun. [ He won't ask any more about her mother since it seems like a sensitive topic. ]

[sophos]

[She idly appreciates that!! And talking about Camp Half-Blood is easier; her face even gets a little wistful.] Yeah, pretty much. Some people stay year round, but it's basically a summer camp, only learning how to kill monsters is part of the curriculum.

[mccallmemaybe]

I wish killing monsters was part of the curriculum in my world. It would be seriously useful. [ Not that Scott likes killing, it really is a last resort for him, but he'd appreciate more help stopping the supernatural things in his world. ]
