Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal

Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

[He caught her sight quite easily, smiling at her through the crowd of people. He had been looking around for Clara since he got here but he didn't really want to stalk her out or something. She was unsure of him and, sometimes, he may accidentally upset her just by being himself. It was a hard one and he tried not to push it.

But he couldn't really stop being who he was. And he liked company.

Taking off the top hat, he span it around by the brim playfully, making a move towards his future companion.]
Enjoying the party?

It's nice. I mean, quirky and yet entertaining band, dancing, wine, food. Company.

[She laughs softly and raises the hand holding the book up to show him.]

Not really an authority on good parties though.

Parties are for having fun, that's the sole purpose of throwing one. As long as you're having fun, who cares what you're doing.

[Though books could easily be replaced with awesome dancing, you know? It's nearly twice as fun.]

What are you reading?

Chaucer. Canterbury Tales. Interesting but not so much exciting.

[a beat.] So go ahead then. Have a go at me.

Oh Chaucer, that saucy old chap. Good bloke, easy to distract though. Gave me a book once, collectors addition. You'll have to remind me to show you sometime in the near future.

[Hopefully he'll actually know her by then. It'd be helpful.]

Geoff always loved a good dance, you know? [Hint hint.] And a party. Very much a partier.

Do you know the dance of ages that they perform on Celja?

You taught that one to me.

Did I? [He raises an eyebrow, more intrigued and impressed than anything else.] I think I can recall that one, though I might be a little rusty.

You remembered it well enough when it came time to perform it for the empress.

Well it always takes the right music to nail the rhythm, I suppose. [He offers out a hand with a slight smile.] Perhaps you can jog my memory?

Alright. But don't make fun of me. I'm tipsy and only did this once.

[She smiles and takes his hand and begins to lead him into a dance that involves a lot of twisting around each other, stepping away and then pulling close together. It was a lot more fun when he first taught her. Aside from the whole "they think you're the living incarnation of their goddess and if you mess up this dance you will die" thing. She'd worn an outfit full of bangles and bells and so had he. When they moved, the world chimed and danced along with them. She'd been terrified and yet enthralled. At the end he'd dipped her and the crowd cheered and the pride she saw in his eyes filled her with an emotion that she could barely name.

Now there are no bells, just top hats and cocktail dresses, and her movements are clumsier and less fluid with the drink and lack of adrenaline. But she smiles still.]

[As far as the Doctor was concerned, this was his first memory of dancing with his 'new' companion. He knew that somewhere in the future, they had all these experiences and adventures but he hadn't reached that point in time yet. He had to make all his own first times with Clara and he was determined to make them the best he could.

If only he could dance better. See, dancing under the pressure of death? Easily makes for a flawless routine. Dancing at a party while trying to keep his top hat on? Little more awkward. Neither of them seemed entirely co-ordinated ... but he loved it. The flaws just made it more them. Awkward but happy.]

You're quite the expert on this one, aren't you?

Not really.

I mean I learned it once and then had to perform it on the fly. You said if I got it wrong, they'd sacrifice me.

[She raises her eyebrows with a gentle smile. And then nearly trips over his foot.]
