Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal

Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

Oh! [The sudden change in topic hits her with surprise, as if this hadn't been something obvious to discuss] Erm, dancin's never been my strong suit, y'see. [She's a bit sheepish, it's almost a bit out of character.] And th'way everyone's been dancin' out there. I've never seen anythin' like it. I don't think I'd be able t'keep up anyway.

Never seen a waltz before? I guess it'd be a little before your time. But it's not too hard, I promise.

[ He drains his drink and sets the glass aside, hopping back to his feet. ]

Come on, I'll show you.
myownhand: (➛ being a jack ass)

[Normally she'd say no right off the cuff, but-- I mean this was a place for fresh starts and new chances. And he was being sincere with her. She might as well try, right? She takes a sip of her drink and sets it down (Noting that all the drinks here tasted weird. Possibly due to the lack of ale. She'd figure it out more later).

Then she's up on her feet about to reach out to him before she pauses.
]

That's no way t'ask a lady t'dance, Jack.

[She can't resist the jab.]

You're absolutely right.

[ And out of nowhere he pulls a damn impressive bow, sweeping arm and all and manages not to look like a cad doing it. Thank you, Victorian England. ]

Would the lady do me the honour of a dance?
myownhand: (➛ i think i can make you understand)

[personal profile] myownhand 2013-09-01 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
[...Color her surprised and impressed. She'll curtsy with a grin]

Milord Frost, th'lady would be honored t'dance with you.

[Pleasantries she normally hated, but hey, this was all in good fun. She wasn't being pressured into it or forced to be a princess. Not today.

And now she'll hold out her hand to him
]

[ His hand is cold to the touch, like he'd been outside for a long time even though the Amphitheater was pleasantly summery. But he pulls her up from the cushions with surprising strength before leading her to a quiet part of the dance floor. ]

Okay, so your one hand goes here... [ guiding it to his shoulder ]
myownhand: (➛ curiosity)

[personal profile] myownhand 2013-09-01 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[She's a bit shocked by the cold at first, but then chides herself mentally. Of course he's cold, he's the spirit of winter. So she shoos any interupting thoughts from her mind and focuses on his instructions. Placing a hand on his shoulder. Though she won't be able to stop from glancing at the fern-like patterns of ice that creep along wherever his skin comes into contact with his clothes. She hadn't really noticed it before.]

Alright, seems simple enough. [Better than trying to dance over a sword or two at least.]
wintershepherd: (whoops)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-01 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ He hadn't purposely tried frosting the suit as much as his usual hoodie, but it hadn't escaped his notice that it was happening either. When he saw her glancing at it he chuckled and tried to brush it off. ]

Whoops... sorry about that.
myownhand: (➛ told you the apples were coming)

[personal profile] myownhand 2013-09-01 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's alright. I've suffered through much worse.

[And she truthfully was much more excited by the idea that she was actually getting to talk to a spirit. They were all aloof back home, she hadn't even seen anything of the witch since their first meeting--

well, beyond the pile of furniture she had left them.

But it was a breath of fresh air to see a spirit so-- well. Normal.
]

And what do I do with my other hand?
wintershepherd: (knowing)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-02 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
And here I thought I was going to be the best at something! Guess I'll have to try harder.

[ All sorts of teasing, glad that she didn't seem too weirded out by his physical quirks. ]

The other hand holds mine and my other hand goes here.

[ He settled it lightly on her waist. ]

Now the basic steps for your feet are pretty straightforward. If I step forward with one foot, you step back with the one across from it and when it's your turn to step forward, I do the reverse.
myownhand: (➛ okay wait wait give her a sec)

[personal profile] myownhand 2013-09-02 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[She looks down at their feet-- only now noticing his distinct lack of shoes. She'll scrunch her nose into a half smile. Whatever, spirits were weird. She'd gotten used to it.]

I think I can manage that. Sounds simple enough.
wintershepherd: (casual)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-03 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. We'll start with this side.

[ He squeezed the hand gently that was holding his, wisely eschewing the whole 'right foot, left foot' problem before it was an issue. ]

So what kind of dancing are you used to?
myownhand: (➛ LAUGH IT OFF)

[personal profile] myownhand 2013-09-05 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sword dancin' mostly, y'gott'keep light on your feet over a pair a'swords. I wasn't very good at it t'b'honest. My father taught me sword fightin' and how t'shoot a bow and arrow instead.

[She's keeping very concentrated on the dance right now. SHE WANTS. TO DO. THIS RIGHT.]

Some of th'lords and lassies who could do it though we're amazin', it's as if they were dancin' on air.
wintershepherd: (perplex)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2013-09-07 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sword... dancing. With actual swords, I take it. Sounds... edgy.

[ She's doing well with the dance so far. Ignoring the tempo of the music around them for now, Jack leads through a complete rotation of steps. ]

And that's pretty much it for the footwork. There's other things, like turns. Want to try those next?
