Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal

Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

"Well your wand's got good taste I guess." The man nodded, pecking at a few of the finger foods that were laid out next to him. He was still using the table to lean on like some rebellious teenager. He was pretty sure after trying her food that if anyone could recreate this stuff it would be her.

"I bet you'll have all the culinary secrets by the end of the night." He agreed, with a little wink. "If you need someone to practice on by the way you can come on by my place. I'm pretty tough". And maybe Lan Fan wouldn't mind having a sparring partner for that matter.

"It is pretty talented, isn't it?" In fact it was so talented that it surprised even Makoto who could still be taken off guard by the unexpected. Of course she was joking, she wasn't that full of herself, but there was something to be said about showing a little bravado

"That's the plan! It's nice to have clear goals, don't you think?" She laughed a little bit not exactly sure what to do with that wink. Though when the subject turned to training she felt like she was in her element again. "Oh yeah, I didn't know you had fighting skills. Now I wanna see what you can do!" And she wouldn't say no to having a sparring partner either.

"Hey I don't like to fight Ladies" the man commented bluntly. "But I've got this shield that's pretty much indestructible, and I'll be happy to play punching bag for ya." As he spoke the man lifted his left arm up, briefly allowing the coal colored carbon to envelop his hand, which also caused his sharply clawed digits to appear as well. He only left it up for a moment though and soon his skin had returned to it's usual pale color.

"Ehhhh?" Okay, Makoto looks a little disappointed in that particular statement, but not upset. She'd only ever get pissed off if someone made her feel weak because she's a girl. This was more like a principle and clearly Greed thought her talent was impressive, but she was still a little disappointed nonetheless...but that didn't last long, not when he armored his hand. It was brief and she just blinked at him for a second as if he had just performed some kind of mind boggling magic trick. Did she really see it? Of course it wasn't the most unusual thing she has ever seen in her life, but she wasn't really sure of what she saw. No qualms, Makoto grabbed Greed's hand and flipped it this way and that...maybe he was palming his trick like a skilled magician, "wow! That's pretty amazing Mister Greed...what kind of shield is it? How does it work? Do you just summon it at will?" It takes her a second to realize she's still looking at the various angle of his hand before she realizes it and throws her arms in the air looking a little sheepish, "heh...sorry, just curious."

He almost laughed, enjoying the attention and curiosity. "It's made of hardened carbon and yeah, I just kind of do it. Like flexing a muscle I guess." He replied with a grin. "It's designed to be impenetrable but after seeing some of the people around here I'm thinking 'near' might be more accurate." Placing his hand back on the table the man finally chuckles, watching her hands fly off of him. "Don't worry about it. I like curiosity. You don't ask questions and well..." His gaze grows distant for a moment as he remembers something. "Things can get real bad babe. Real bad."

"That's pretty useful having instant access to your abilities," as Makoto had already demonstrated, access to her power required a transformation...though not so much for her physical strength. Having seen some of the abilities of foreigners on the Turtle, Makoto had to agree it would difficult to put up an ultimate defense, "yeah, there are some pretty tough characters running around." She was glad that her curiosity was appreciated as opposed to unwanted, but with the detached expression forming on Greed's face she couldn't help looking a little concerned, "I...can imagine."

He looked up and suddenly became acutely aware of her expression, so he shook his head and grinned. "Hey don't look like that alright. You've got a good curious streak and I don't think you have to worry about not asking enough questions." And he took his hand off the table and crossed his arms over his chest (though his backside remained leaning against it).

"Eh...ah...well it just sounds like you have some personal experience in that area and I'm not one to poke at wounds...well...not intentionally...if it's a bad experience of some kind..." she didn't really think it was fair poking around in someone else's heart, even if she was a little bit curious about his experiences with no asking enough questions. If Greed knew things could get bad then there must be something behind it. "Oh? Did you ever find any gambling hot spots in the festival...you were hoping for something like that, right?"

"Yeah you're right. I know a lot about what happens when you do what yer told without question." He agreed with a quick nod, but the man was thankful when the subject changed. "No I didn't find anything! Maybe I just wasn't lookin hard enough though." He grinned. The man hadn't given himself much time for searching, instead focusing on heading over to the dining area to look for Lan Fan.

Of course, Makoto had some tact, and her intuition was pretty good as well, she knew an uncomfortable conversation when it was slapping her right in the face. "Maybe, or maybe you were just looking for something else instead." What, that smile of hers wasn't a knowing smile or anything. She was just responding to the grin, though maybe it was instinct, who knows? Makoto is a romantic, regardless, "You did have a date for this shindig after all, did she get the dress she wanted?"

"Yeah she managed to find something she could live with" He nodded with a smile. "If she's not here stuffn' her face already she'll probably be along shortly." Greed knew it probably sounded bad to say it like that, but Lan Fan could eat just as much as Ling could, and anyone that saw her in action would know what he was talking about.

"A girl with an appetite's good for business you know? When I get my bakery you're going to have to bring her by." She sounded very much like someone else Makoto knew, though Makoto herself also had a healthy appetite that was extremely varied. She couldn't think of anything in particular that she wouldn't eat, not that she could afford to be picky.

[personal profile] youjustlivehere 2013-09-15 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Greed considered the possible ramifications of Lan Fan becoming a regular patron of Matoko's bakery, and decided he'd better pick up the pace on that job hunt. He did pick up on her words though and raised his brow, giving the girl an appraising look. "So do you have more concrete plans then? You seem to be talkin like you're gonna have that place set up soon"

"Yeah...well between what I've earned doing the work required of foreigners and a loan that'll probably take ages to pay off I have a place that I'm fixing up and getting supplies for. Hopefully I'll be up and running by harvest moon time," the dangers are completely present, given that Makoto can cook well, in her opinion, and she can make food appear very novel while doing it. She's hoping that would make it difficult to pass up, "I'm not exactly the most business minded person, but I have a name and a gimmick so we'll see what happens."

"You better let me know when it opens." He chuckles, gesturing sharply with his hand. If her offerings were half as good as the stuff she'd brought over when he first arrived, the girl shouldn't have anything to worry about.

"Might wanna get someone to help you with the book keeping though. At least give you a rundown on how a Ledger works or somethin." Greed added casually.

"My goal is to have it open in time for the full harvest moon." You know, moon viewing festival and all that jazz. She's hoping that her cooking skills in this world will have improved by then since she's still trying to get the ingredients to resemble something she's more familiar with. There's also the actual setting up part.

"Ah...well I can sort of do that, I lived by myself before coming here so I had to balance a budget...but that's probably a little bit different. I guess it might be a bit of a work load for just one person too..." and doing the math isn't her favorite thing in the world.

He just looks at her for a while. After all, to him seeing the moon isn't that big a deal. And he's definitely never heard of their being a celebration based around it. Finally he blurts out "There's a party for looking at the moon?" Raising a brow at her with dry curiosity.

At this she'll laugh and shake her head looking very humored by the response. "Well usually it's very quiet, but I'm not going to demand it. But yeah, there's a festival that celebrates looking at the moon called Tsukimi. It's probably archaic, but what we do is we decorate an alter with autumn plants and we put together an offering display made of pumpkin, chestnuts, potato, and moon dumplings...we offer all of this to the moon. Some say it's supposed to bring happiness and good fortune...but it's really just a way to admire the beauty of the moon and to celebrate a good harvest. We also get to hear stories about the rabbit on the moon!"

The whole thing would have sounded a lot more boring if she hadn't mentioned that they served food. He'd never heard of a moon dumpling either but now he was curious to find out what they were like. "Well I can't remember if I've heard about a moon rabbit before, but I guess I wouldn't mind lookin at the moon if there's food involved." He commented and let out a short laugh.

Fortunately she doesn't plan on enforcing the traditions, she'll just provide the food and the atmosphere. It's a gimmick after all...for her it's strategy, or as close to strategic as it gets. "I'll probably have some kind of beverage too, but it's nice to know I can count on you if you're not busy."
