Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal
Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.
Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.
This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.
Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).
Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

When Jim raised his hand, Korra looked in that direction and her breath caught in her throat. In that same instant her eyes went directly to Kyle’s hand and then darted to either side of him.
That half-second over, she looked back at Jim and nodded. She understood why this would be a good time for it. This was a safe atmosphere, partly because of the others there, but for Korra because Jim was there. She lifted her feet off his knees, just in case Kyle wanted to sit where Jim’s feet were.]
Yeah, I think I’ve put it off long enough.
no subject
[Nothing to fear.]
[Jim doesn't stop waving. Kyle sighs, and gives it a few moments before he approaches, and remains standing until asked to sit. He acknowledges Jim with a nod, his body language closed and unreadable. Anyone watching would think they were total strangers, which was the point. He didn't like people knowing how close he was to Jim, even if it meant Jim couldn't openly read him like they were used to doing.]

Kyle, Korra, Korra, Kyle. First person who says 'we've met' gets an hors d'oeuvres thrown at their head.
no subject
Um, hey. [Not the greatest starter, but it's better than the avoidance and wide berth she's been giving him since the last time she saw him. Her arms dropped grab either side of her seat.]
We were just goofing around. [This wasn't like any of the other times she's had to apologize to anyone. Normally Korra could just roll her eyes, drone out an apology, and be done with it. But that was back home, where she held special privileges as the Avatar. Not here.
And that wouldn't reflect well on Jim, something she would never do willingly.]
Been okay? [Floundering, she's floundering already.]
no subject
[He nods to Korra, and then sits down, and looks at Jim, before the corner of his lip twitches upwards and his tone shows a hint of play.]
We've met.
[He doesn't sit with his back to the crowd - unfortunately tactics never leave him and this is... an unknown. Jim's had one of his crazy ideas, probably. Like Rose does, sometimes, and Kyle can't help being a little wary.]
no subject
no subject
Yeah, we did.
About that.
[Not laughing, she is not laughing.]
I'm really sorry about that whole thing. That was-
That was really stupid of me.
no subject
[She's been put up to this, maybe by Jim, or Damian, but she's sincere.]
[His hands drop back to his sides, coming to rest on his lap.]
You will ask Dr. Natu what you can do to help around our clinic. You're a powerful waterbender, and I understand that means you're an excellent healer. When you have earned our forgiveness, and the patients' trust, then we will accept your apology.

There wasn't one thing she liked about that tone and less in the words that made her feel like her apology was trampled on. She was thankful for the lessons she had been taking from Bruce and Dinah's help on control right now.
Doing her best to not look over at Jim, Korra took a deep breath and nodded. She didn't speak because she was sure nothing positive was going to come out.]
no subject
Spit it out.
no subject
And Kyle, for the record, it's not your emotions Jim's worried about, here.]
She said she was sorry, and agreed to your conditions. The prison warden routine is duly noted.
[You don't need to rub it in.]
no subject
And then she remembers something Jim told her when she agreed to do this after healing his leg.]
And I'm sorry I hurt you.
[She looked at Kyle with a small shrug of her shoulders, her head leaning slightly at Jim. How she hurt him she didn't know, he walked away unscathed from their confrontation, but Jim did tell her that she hurt Kyle.
Somehow?]
no subject
Prison warden?
[A flicker of irritation. Oh - I wasn't aware sorry magically fixed everything by itself. She wants trust and forgiveness? She works for it like everyone else.]
[He turns to Korra as she speaks, frowning, and he's silent, considering her statement, and when he speaks, his tone is carefully neutral.]
Where I'm from, we value people's actions. Show me you're sorry - that's worth more to me and it's more lasting than simply saying so.

She could do this, letting Jim down wasn't an option. Even though her pride and bravado demanded she just throw her hands up and simply 'WHATEVER' out of this conversation. Had they been anywhere else but the Bacchanal, that might have turned out to be the case.]
I can be there after I do my fishing.
no subject
Good.
no subject
[It's a concession he's going to make whether Kyle wants him to or not. He's not going to let Korra just go and skulk about like she's in exile. Working at the clinic isn't punishment, it's-- absolution. Of a sort. He nudges a glass towards Korra on the table and then holds one out to Kyle. Non-alcoholic, both. Then he raises his own in a toast.]
Fresh starts.
no subject
When the glass came her way, she smiled her thanks at Jim. A nice reminder of why she agreed to this in the first place. Not one to ruin anything Jim wanted to do, this was Jim and she adored him, Korra raised her glass.]
And fire extinguishers.
[She's trying to help.]
no subject
To second chances.
[He takes a sip, and then puts it down, nods to Jim, and attempts for a lighter end to the conversation.]
Excuse me. Shayera's trying to tear another slit in her dress, I swear. I told her not to bring that mace.
no subject
Good luck with her, she's a handful.
no subject
She sighed as if she had been holding her breath for an obscene amount of time.]
I think I'm going to sit here for a little bit, you should go back out there and dance some more. [No more sipping, time to actually drink as much of the cool beverage as she needed.]
And hey, thanks for saying you'd be there. [She knew she'd be looking forward to the days at the clinic when Jim was there.]
no subject
You're welcome. And thanks for keeping your cool, huh?

I'd have told him to shove it. If I was in your shoes.
