Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal

Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

[She grins.] I keep finding all kinds of things, apparently. But yeah, I can definitely show you. It's back at my suite right now, if you want to come over sometime.

[Annabeth looks around a little wistfully.] Some parts of home. Camp Half-Blood and Mount Olympus have architecture like this, but most of the world is modernized, maybe a little like the Metal Sector. All of this here is antique, technically, by my world's standards.

Antique means just more linked with your history and roots, though.

[Giving the architecture a closer look, she can't help but appreciate its aesthetic. It's beautiful, stately in ways that don't exist in Askoupur.]

And it's beautiful. I like it better than some of what I've seen in the Metal sector. It's a shame there isn't something more like this in Keeliai.

[She smiles at that.] Some of the buildings I'm around are in prime shape, good as new. Or actually new, so it's not all that antique to me. My roots are pretty much around me all the time, at least at Camp.

I definitely like it better. Almost everything I design is classically influenced - that's what the style as a whole is referred to. But I guess it's kind of a mix, too, depending on what I want or what it's needed for. It might be possible to bring some designs like this into Keeliai, especially at the rate the city needs to fix or create infrastructure.

[You got her started, Bryn. Architecture.]

[Architecture indeed. Enjoying seeing how passionate Annabeth gets about this, Bryn is content to listen and talk about it for a little while. Certainly the golem behind her isn't going to get too restless, content to stay by her side.]

I wonder who you'd speak to about such things. Maybe you could see to leaving your mark on this city. [She taps her chin thoughtfully.] Certainly you'll have the option to do so with my new place. Now that we've found the building.

[She pauses a beat.]

I did tell you that, didn't I?

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-11 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
[She pauses to think that over.] I haven't really asked around. It's hard to tell if they'd let me, but I'd certainly be willing.

[A nod.] You did, yeah! I'll have to come check it out again, see what we can do.

Maybe you could ask someone at the palace to point you in the right direction of whoever is in charge of that. We might not be here to beautify their city but I can't imagine them being opposed to someone with real talent if they want to lend a hand.

[Shrugging, she looks back to her golem and smiles.]

I think maybe we ought to go in, see what they have set up around here. Want to come with or are you going to stay out here a while longer?

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-14 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
I've got the credentials. [Understatement.] It's something to offer, at least, if I ever needed or wanted to.

No, I should - probably go back in, too. There's a lot more I want to see inside. [Thinking mostly of the architecture tbh. And maybe Percy.]

Want a ride?

[She grins.]

My friend here could carry you after all. Make a bit of an entrance yourself?
sophos: (pic#4369110)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-15 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Her face sort of brightens, curiosity clear in her eyes. She'd try just about anything, to know what it was like.] I won't get kicked off or anything?

[Though she doesn't sound all that concerned. She's been thrown from far worse and fallen far further.]
trifurcate: (pic#5681446)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-17 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Not if I ask it not to.

[Looking over to her golem, she strokes a hand over its shoulder again, draws her fingers under its chin affectionately, and her next words are to the creature.]

What do you think, hm? Could you give my good friend a ride?

[The golem, pleased by the affection, purrs louder than before, seeming entirely agreeable to the arrangement.]
sophos: (pic#4369135)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Annabeth grins, taking it all as affirmation, then approaches the golem more closely, but she gestures at Bryn before climbing on; she wants to see how the other woman does it first.] Then, after you, please.
trifurcate: (pic#5681420)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-24 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Bryn chuckles and nods. Giving the golem another pat, she mounts it much as she would a horse. With her hands on its shoulders, she jumps up and swings her leg over its back. Well, sort of. The golem lowers slightly on its legs to make it easier, and rises once Bryn is on board.

Grinning, she holds out a hand.]

Feel free to brace a foot on its shoulder if it's easier. I'll help pull you up the rest of the way.
sophos: (pic#4485068)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-26 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
[She doesn't really need to, and if it was anyone else, Annabeth might ignore the offered hand; but she takes it with a nod, and using it for a brace alongside the shoulder as Bryn suggests, she climbs up onto the golem with relative ease and settles herself behind her friend. Relative ease, because wearing a dress hinders her usual flexibility.]

Not the most difficult thing I've had to climb, if I'm honest.

Didn't think it would be. You can hold onto my shoulders or around my waist, whatever you want. Giant stone golems don't really have the same gait as horses.

[Which she is far more used to. Her extended family on her mother's side has several, actually, living as close to the outer border of Kouhyar as they do.]

What is the most difficult thing you've had to climb if not onto a beast? Some sort of obstacle course for training?
sophos: (pic#6827808)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-28 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
[She considers that, glancing over the stone beneath her. It definitely doesn't have a good grip, but she wants to see how it moves. So she settles for one hand at Bryn's waist for now.]

Other... beasts? [Thoughtful noise.] There's a lava wall back at camp, but almost ten years of practice don't make it as difficult as it was at the start. Rope ladders in midair are kind of annoying. But I guess there was this cliffside once, kind of steep, about two hundred feet.

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-09-29 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
[The golem walks them in toward the party, having no issues bearing both of their weight.

Two-hundred foot cliff doesn't sound like fun--Bryn looks over at Annabeth incredulously.]
--I'm sorry did you say a lava wall?
sophos: (pic#5250011)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-29 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not all that hard to stay balanced as the golem walks, so Annabeth keeps as is with just one hand on her friend.] You have to learn how to climb it quickly enough, or - well, it starts oozing lava. It's just one of many fun yet potentially dangerous camp activities. Technically it's just supposed to be called the climbing wall, but you can see why it's been nicknamed otherwise.

Doesn't sound like anything I'd want to try. Wouldn't be able to heal from anything like that.

[Assuming she wouldn't be killed outright, of course.]

So what do you think of my friend here? Think you'd be up for going for a run sometime?
sophos: (pic#5312159)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-09-30 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Most kids jump off before the lava hits them. But we do heal a lot more easily than most mortals.

[!!!] Definitely. Preferably in pants, though. [Because she's pretty fascinated by it.]
trifurcate: (pic#5681457)

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-10-01 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh well in pants of course. We'll find somewhere soft for it to run too so it's not quite as jarring.

[She grins.]

I think it likes to play, to be honest, so maybe we could teach it a few tricks. Train it.

[personal profile] sophos 2013-10-02 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Some of the land outside Keeliai might be good. How've the kedan been reacting to this guy?

[She grins a bit.] I've got a little experience with a giant hellhound, for giant pet tricks. Maybe it could even play with Mrs. O'Leary sometime. [It's a stone golem. It definitely seems strong enough to handle that.]

Mrs. O'Leary?

[The name doesn't ring a bell, but when speaking of the kedan, Bryn sounds pleased, and a little smug. Proud.]

The kitty turns heads wherever he goes, but the children love him. Fiercely protective, however. Haven't had a single incident with the gangs since I started taking my friend here with me.
sophos: (pic#4369133)

[personal profile] sophos 2013-10-04 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, sorry! She's a hellhound - uh, that's a dog, and she's about the size of a rhino, but not nearly as dangerous as she sounds. She was trained well, unlike most of her kind. Technically she's Percy's pet.

[Her grin turns into a smile, and she lets out a short chuckle.] He definitely seems friendly enough. What a good ward.

[personal profile] trifurcate 2013-10-06 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he is. Lucky to have found him. So what kinds of things does Mrs. O'Leary do?

[Bryn and Annabeth continue chatting about the pair of animals as Bryn's golem carries them into the party.]
