I don't know the name. It's an old song my mom used to sing.

[Her eyelashes fluttered open at this, staring up at him with her lips slightly parted. His mom. It wasn't often he spoke about his past. Then again, neither did she. But she knew that for him to be humming a song from his childhood...it meant something.]
[Smiling sleepily up at him, she reached out with one hand, lightly cupping his cheek. A gentle touch. Her arm was too limp for much more than that. It was the gesture that matter.]
I like it. A lot.

He doesn't answer her question outright, but he starts humming again.]
no subject
[Her arm lazily dropped when he pulled away. Spoilsport.]
[Then the humming started again, and she had little else but to resume her listening. The melody was incredibly soothing. And he really was very good. Perfectly in tune. Not a single note out of place, each blending into the next. It made it so much easier to focus on him and him alone, momentarily blocking out the rest of the world.]
You'll really stay...till I fall asleep?
[This time, it came out almost like a mumble.]
no subject
[As if to emphasize the point, he shifts slightly and makes himself comfortable... as comfortable as he can on the floor.]
no subject
Sure you don't...wanna join m'?
[Her eyes didn't open, but she could sense him shifting down there. It didn't seem all that comfortable. Not compared to the couch cushions.]
I wouldn't mind.
no subject
[He's avoiding it because he doesn't want to fall asleep.]
no subject
Thought that was the point.
[Distracting her from everything that had been keeping her from sleeping. And...darnit...it really was working; she shifted a little in her position, settling further into her makeshift bed. Clearly more relaxed than she'd been in days.]
no subject
[Dick moves to the end of the couch and settles in.]
no subject
[Still not quite what she'd been hoping for...but, hey, he was a bit closer now. And not sitting on the floor. Her legs brushed up against his, practically curled into his side to compensate for the suddenly lack of room down there.]
Better?

So come up here, where there's more space.
no subject
[It's warm and, well. Comfortable.]
no subject
[Very comfortable.]
[There was no hiding the satisfied smirk on her lips...at least, until it was interrupted by yet another yawn. Hush, you. Let her enjoy her small victory.]
Even better-er.
[At the apparent sacrifice of her ability to remember proper grammar.]
no subject
[He's not tired at all. Just ignore that yawn that escaped him.]
Mission complete.
no subject
[She neither sees nor hears anything out of the ordinary. Nor is she leaning back so that her body's just barely pressing against his.]
Think you could...keep singing?
[Humming. Whatever. It had a different effect when the source was this close.]

[His voice carried to her ear in a low, gentle hum. So close now she could actually feel the vibration. Combined with the warmth he literally radiated...the softness of the couch cushions...]
[She drifted off almost immediately. Smiling in her sleep, as if she could still hear and feel him in her dreams.]
