A slow nod. "Yeah, I've never been comfortably getting up in front of people. I still get really nervous even now." Being neurotic wasn't all that fun, as it turned out.

She paused, trying to not wince. "Oh. Yeah. Michael. He's my boyfriend back home. I mean I'm dating Leo here now. It's just... It's complicated."

"Do you even have that kind of money?" Because he knew he sure as hell didn't. "Maybe you can offer to put in some community service? I always help clean up after a fight."

Mainly because he's usually the one at fault half the city's buildings are in the street...

"That would be a good idea. He could put the statue in his new office. Or the lobby or something."

Jack blinked a little, because that had definitely not been on the list of possible questions he'd expected. "No, I wouldn't mind," he answered. "I'm not very good at it and... I'm not sure if I'm going to be much help for uh, spiritual stuff. But we can give it a try."

Jack laughed at the observation. "I guess I can't contest that part," he chuckled when she said he was a spirit and thus part way there.

"Oh go ahead, mighty Avatar," the winter teen teased. "I can't put you through the cruelty of denying you your bending talent any longer. Bring us the fish!"

It's been a while since Septimus first officially met Korra. Of course, her presence on the network was notable, and either way he certainly remembered the... ah, incident regarding the clinic. It all added up to an interesting picture; for all that there are all sorts of odd sorcery in this place, and one or two who seemed to do something like watercrafting--bending, they called it--it looked rather as if Korra worked in more than one type. Septimus hasn't seen any of that since he'd come here.

And as much as he can find people to spar with, as much as his healing is in better form than it had been at home, as much as he's worked with as many of his skills as possible... great furies, it would be good for him to have someone who might be able to give him more of a workout.

And if she did, well, he's under the impression she might need some lessons in control. He might be the most qualified to give her that.

However, when he came across her while walking in Water Sector, that particular form of traveling on water was definitely not one he'd seen before. With barely a thought and flick of effort, he put up a windcrafting veil and kicked into the air, and trailed along after trying to puzzle out just what she's doing. Handily, it was along the path home. When she finally landed, however, that splash made him roll his eyes. (Then again, if he were totally honest, he could be that lazy when he was her age.)

He silently landed near a fence not far away, slightly off to the side, and dropped the veil. He'd totally been there the whole time, right?

With a gesture half beckoning, half closing his fist, the water left on the ground gathered itself into a sphere. Another faint flick, and it poured itself gracefully back into the river. "Need a hand drying off?"

The answer is probably no. But he's entertained.

Korra, getting advice from Vanessa on relationships would probably be like getting advice from a junkie on how to quit drugs: useless.

She frowned, though. Catty had said the same thing basically, and she remembered the sleeping bags in Michael's van when she said she wanted to have sex. His willingness, his closeness with Corrine when she came back. He probably hadn't wanted to be alone either. "Maybe. But I know what happens in my future." Michael happens still.

Vanessa blushed. "Yeah? You know, Leo Valdez. One of the demigods? He's friends with Percy."

"I think his pick up lines are cute," Vanessa countered with a small smile. The guys she had been with before were smooth. Too smooth. She was a magnet for them, smoldering looks and sweet words on a golden tongue. Leo's cheesy lines and uncertainty was refreshing in a way that she never thought she'd like. "But yeah, he's a good kid."

She gave that look right back. She was almost three years older than Leo herself.

"His table hit on me in the middle of the sidewalk."

Adorkable fit Leo to a T.

"Table. He has two of them, and they're like dogs. Dogs with wooden legs and no faces but the personalities are there," Vanessa explained with a grin. Her boyfriend was totally weird.

Vanessa laughed, shaking her head. "He made them. Leo's good with his hands, you know? So he made moving tables, it's actually really cool. He even designed the ship the other demigods are using back home." Yeah, she was bragging, but she didn't care. "And I think they eat oil."
shorttempered: ([Inv] Let me think about it... no)

"All the more reason to try offering community service. It won't cost you a thing." It was a solid idea to him, anyway.

"Ask his sons."

Moving targets are always challenging but he kept up with his practice. Small knives flew across their closing distance and implanted themselves into Choi's friends knees, ankles, the meat of their butts. Just for kicks. He picked off Choi's companions one by one as they made the break for it. Until it was down to just one man.

He chased Choi down to an alley. There are three escape paths for Choi. But Choi won't do it. Jason just crippled all his lackeys, his brothers in arms. As expected, Choi turned and faced him. Hard lines on an otherwise smooth face. Jason's just like his mask. Neutral even as his flame knife ends it as quick as he can, as quietly as he can.

When Korra regroups with him, Jason has his helmet off. He's sitting down and leaning back on a hand, putting his weight on one side. He looks exhausted but satisfied. He's grinning at Korra for a job well done. To both of them. Choi's blood is on his shoulder, too dark to be fresh.

"You're not so bad yourself, your Highness. So what do I owe you for covering my sorry ass?" He teases, looking back at the contained chaos below.

Under his jacket is nothing. Another shirt, red but unstained. It tells her he's not bleeding at least. And he lets her see that much before making a move to brush her hand away.

"Hey. Take it easy, Korra."

He flirts casually, hoping to dismiss the issue with a sharp change on topic. He feigns the shock and the look of one having his personal space violated. "I'm easy but not that easy. At least buy me a cheap drink and take me to a nice hotel before you try to take my clothes off."

Maybe it's the adrendaline still pumping in his veins, maybe it's Joe the friendly regular guy persona talking, maybe he's just being a stupid boy. Whatever it is, it slips out of his mouth before he thinks too much about it.

"How do I get you kind of unattached?"

He doesn't get another word in before the whistle cuts him off. And that he wasn't expecting. He turns and looks around, his body holding a half-tense, ready-to-go mode. A trap? No, she doesn't seem the type.
