"We’re from the same world, so we have to help each other out." Sort of. She wouldn’t really help out Amon if he asked for it. And Tarrlok, well, Tarrlok wouldn’t ask for it even if he needed it.

He ducks his head slightly and offers her a small smile.

"What do you mean, that's the emperor's job?"

It was a hard enough task without people judging you on top of it.
“Some the others have made a trade with her and she lets them into a pool of water and they see their future on the mirrors that make the walls.” It was a description Jim had given her after the Bacchanal and she had thought of doing such a thing herself. She was still contemplating it.
“It’s where the water I used to save you came from.” Her eyes fell to the necklace and she gave a small, forced smile. She had traded all of her salvaged satellite findings, which was quite a lot, all to save another Avatar.
“People can ask about that whenever she holds an open audience.”

He lets this news sink in.
"I knew there was a war, but I didn't know the turtle was in danger," he adds thoughtfully. That changes things dramatically in his mind. Fighting a war for the sake of a war was one thing, fighting a war to protect something or someone was something different. Something entirely different.
"Maybe it's some kind of Spirit Oasis," he offers.

“You’re the Avatar, maybe you could give it a look and see what it is later?” She still had the small bit of water leftover from healing Aang. It wouldn’t be enough to heal another mortal injury like that one, but maybe a small scar or deep puncture.

It was a painful thing to admit outloud.

"We've been in touch, but it's not like there was anyone there to really teach me what to do with that. Or how to control it. Usually...usually it just controlled me. I left Guru Pathik before I'd finished learning about the Avatar State, because....because Katara was in danger."
no subject
“What happened to Katara?” she finally asked, wondering if she would be able to piece together on her own what occurred before Aang could answer.
no subject
General Iroh and I had freed Katara and Zuko, but...Zuko turned on us. Then there was lightning..."
The rest she knows.
no subject
“So you did the right thing. That’s what the Avatar’s supposed to do.” If it was her, Korra would have done the same thing.
Or at least, she assumed she would.
“…wait, how were you training at the Eastern Air Temple? There weren’t any other airbenders except you?”
no subject
"The Avatar is supposed to do what's best for the world, and not what's best for themselves. I...I went to save Katara because I couldn't let go of my worldly attachment for her. becauseiloveher," he whispers that last bit. "By leaving before I finished clearing all my chakras, and learning how to control the Avatar State, I might have blocked it...permanently."
He takes a deep breath and swallows hard.
"At least that's what Guru Pathik said might happen. He is a spiritual brother to my people, and was waiting for me and Appa at the Eastern Air Temple."
no subject
“But you got around that block, you didn’t ruin your training.” She wanted to tell him more. How he got the Avatar State back even after saving Katara; How her use of it was proof of that. But she wasn’t sure just how much to tell him.

Aang wants to know how more than just about anything, but he doesn't ask. The emotional progression is apparent on his face. Until finally he finds some words to fill the silence.
"Good to know."
no subject
"Yeah. Well, uh, I kind of- took too long. Pretty sure Kyle's looking for me."
He had never gone looking for her, not once.
"So, um, I'll just let you get healed up. And I can, uh, pick up that necklace next session. Okay?" She was just about to start packing up her med kit when she realized she had done that a while ago.
no subject
And maybe if he's honest with himself... That time he tried to lie to Bato.
"Oooookaaaaaay. Sure. I did't mean to keep you so long."
no subject
OR SOMETHING.
"Don't break that necklace!" Even though that would be impossible.
"See you!" Once she's past the doorway, Korra slides away sideways as if she had been hooked off a stage.
no subject
"I wonder if she's distantly related to Bumi..." he wonders aloud before returning to his craft project.
