"Last thing I remember, I was just sitting outside my house. I wasn't even doing anything special." Mark sighed and shook his head. "No, that was about a year and a half ago. He wound up stranding me in a dimension where humanity had wiped itself out... my friend rescued me, but it apparently took them 12 years to do it."
Okay, that was a gross understatement of how he got there, but saying "yeah I thought I murdered the guy and got myself stuck there" was not something he was willing to admit. "But it was only like a day or two my time. Not only that, I still have no idea if it's my friends that saved me, or if it was my friends in another dimension.
"Time travel is complicated."

Superhero life is just too insane...

"It's crazy, I know." He gave a sheepish grin. "My dad was a superhero before me and growing up watching him, I thought I knew what I was getting into. I was way wrong."
no subject
"Thanks. Glad it’s not just me. I’ve had some weird things happen, but nothing near that." Not even close, she didn’t envy him at all. Well, aside from the powers she got to enjoy.
"So this superhero stuff is still kind of new to you?" He seemed to be older than her, so maybe he was like her and just training until the time came when it would be put to the test.

The reason he was staring at her airbending was because, like the idiot he was, it just dawned on him whose powers he might have acquired a few weeks ago.
"I've been meaning to ask you, you're the Avatar, right?" Crap, why would Invincible know this? "I've, uh, head about you.
"This might sound weird, but did you happen to lose your powers when everything went screwy?"
no subject
"Yeah, all my bending was gone one morning." That had been a not fun morning, for all of an hour before she discovered they’d been replaced.
"A lot of crazy stuff happened then, like my boyfriend turning into a girl and my friend was suddenly older than me." That one was a surprise and it didn’t stop there, but she had to ask since he did. "Why, did you get turned into an old man? Because some people can be a little more on the grumpy when that happens."
Like one generally nice and smiley faced Bruce Wayne for example.
no subject
"No, uh, I think for a while I was the Avatar.... Or at least, I had your powers." He paused. "...I almost lit my house on fire."
Thankfully, he lived in the Earth sector and that was very, very hard to do.

An excited ’Oh’ formed on her lips and she pointed at him for a brief second before she brought her arm back in to hold onto the glider. His words finally registered and all the fun she had during Zatanna’s magic bomb had been one of the best feelings she ever had.
"You can move that fast!" It was meant to be a question, but her happiness at finding out just whose powers she had was overwhelming.
"How do you slow down when you make those boom noises? I bet you had to replace a door knob on the first day like I did, huh? Did you ever try lifting the turtle? It was so easy to just lift a whale, how do you get used to that? It took me a couple of days to not just break everything I touched. I blinked, did you go anywhere?"
Yes, she had a lot of fun with Invincible’s powers.
no subject
He might have spoken too soon.
"Boom noises? Korra, what exactly did you do with my powers?" Because the only time he made "boom noises" was when he crashed into things really, really hard. "And no, I can't lift the turtle. The last time I checked I could lift about 75 tons--though it's probably more now--and cities are just a bit heavier than that.
"And frankly, even if I could I don't think Asti would appreciate it too much."
As for that last question... well, he just had to mess with her. Making sure he made a big gust of wind along the way, he zipped behind her. "I'm sorry, did you say something? I just went to check out the barrier." It was totally a lie, and his grin showed it.
no subject
"Yeah, those boom noises when you fly too fast." Breaking the sound barrier was a new thing and while it was startling at first, she thoroughly enjoyed doing it on whim."I can't believe you actually answered all those." Ikki, sure simply because she was seven; but for Invincible it could have been another superpower she didn’t know about.
"Really though, I just flew around and helped people. Except the first day, I didn’t have the flying part down and I kind of casually flew upside down through the wall and then the ceiling of the Wayne building in the Metal Sector. No one was there, so that was good at least."
That may have been why she was so eager to help an older Bruce about town.
no subject
"Oh, oh you mean the sound barrier?" Mark flies backwards a bit. "Like this?"
And in a flash he's gone, flying up into the upper atmosphere to give him the necessary space he needs to get up to speed. He starts off towards Korra, careful to stay far enough away that he won't barrel her over when he does eventually break it, picking up speed the closer he gets until finally...
BOOM!
Mark quickly flips back up towards where they were hovering as he forces himself to slow down, managing to decrease his speed enough that she can see him slow to a stop about 50 feet away from her. He zips back over, huge grin on his face. He... might like showing off.
"Wait, Korra, that was you?" He'd heard about that. Had to send some of his workers to help fix it, too.
no subject
"YES, that!" Since she couldn’t really jump up and down, she opted to do a loop in the air instead.
That only lasted for so long until his question and that made her wince slightly. "You heard about that? I don't think it's too big of a deal. Mr. Wayne’s a nice guy, I don’t think I ruined his office too much." A beat until she realized that she never did offer to pay for the damages or even apologize.
"…I should do something about that."
no subject
He winced a little as he said that out loud. How many buildings had he destroyed in supervillain fights since he first started as Invincible? How many of those people did he go apologize to? It was crazy hypocritical, asking Korra to do something he had never done, but...
It was Bruce. It was different somehow, when it was someone you knew.
no subject
"What do you get someone with that much money?"
no subject
Mark picks at the tip of his gloves as he does everything to not look Korra in the eye. He does, however, look up when she asks that. Good question. "Something money can't buy, I guess... can you make him something??"
no subject
"Well, I can earthbend or ice sculpt something. Maybe I can buy a block of some quality stone and work from there." Excited at first, bit it winded down in enthusiasm when she realized that she doesn’t really know much about him.
no subject
Mainly because he's usually the one at fault half the city's buildings are in the street...
"That would be a good idea. He could put the statue in his new office. Or the lobby or something."
no subject
"The only problem is I have no idea what to make.” A guy like that, Korra doubted Bruce would want a status of himself.
no subject
"Ask his sons."
Status, statue. Though, thought. You know, words that actually make sense. /sob
It’s Dick, he’s always been nice to her.
"Thanks! Now I know where to start."
it's okay I knew what you meant!
