The commerce town of the tried. Temperatures within the dome are kept at a lofty 18C (62F) year round and the population of Markutte dresses less in furs and more in linens obtained through trade. Their long hair is frequently shorn short in the current fashion and they are, on the whole, less hardy than their kin in Phorezton and Aihsohlow, but even more friendly as they are currently in the throes of the Harvest Haul, a festival that concludes their rare growing seasons and agricultural bounties.

Trade. That's the foundation of Markutte and there are three town squares that are home to transient stalls and merchandise from the country and all surviving areas of Konryu. Many kedan have made their way here and occupy the occasional stall space, selling their wares and exchanging gifts with the citizens as they grasp the nature of the festival underway. Once again, visitors that make the trek here are expected to donate a gift that will be regifted at random, earning access and a stamp of their tin visa that resembles the oblong crystal coin used as currency in this realm.

Police are on the lookout for financial crimes here and will demand visas of any they suspect to be committed fraud, short-selling merchants, or thieving in any way, shape, or form. There are three vistas, one in each market square, upon which heralds stand and announce the crimes and punishments noted of the previous day. Minor theft is common and the punishment is a brand upon the criminal's neck; major theft results in a loss of a finger for each item stolen; fraud here is punishable by death, but only twice will there be an announcement of an execution during the landfall.

The auctions here are quite lively and characters can expect a minor bidding war to obtain their items, but each item is in pristine condition and provided to them wrapped within a thin set of furs as a thanks for their purchase.

[Her face visibly falls when he says he hasn't seen them. She could stamp her foot and demand one of them come, her voice could certainly carry, but it wouldn't do any good, not here.]

No, I don't have any more of the local currency.

[dow]

Will you show me where they are being stored?

[ It's then that he starts re-wrapping the lute in the soft furs the auctioneers used, rising once it's slung on his back. ]

[She nods, and gestures for him to follow. The crowd has thinned since the next auction isn't up yet, but a few items are on display. Monet points to a chess set.]

[dow]

[ That's not what he was expecting, committing it to memory. He turns to her point-blank. ]

Would you care for me to purchase it on your behalf?

[superieure]

If you would not mind.

[It's a sign of how attached she is to that simple object, that the statement is completely sincere.]

[dow]

If I did, I would not have offered. [ He says it gently, understanding entirely how hard it would be to leave behind anything of his own in this place. ] How long until the auction recommences?

[superieure]

Should be about -- [She looks around, zeroing in on a timer.] two hours.

[dow]

I will meet you back here within the specified time-period.

[superieure]

Thank you, Spock.

[She breathes more easily, and decides to go find somewhere to sit.]

[ A short nod is given and he takes his leave of her for the time being. Just before the auction is due to start almost two hours later, he filters out of the crowd and raises a hand to get her attention, signalling he's present and still willing. ]

[By then, she's considerably calmer. There's still no sign of Rictor or Layla, but that's not a concern. She keeps an eye out in case somebody wants to steal it. She rises and approaches when he signals, standing nearby, looking intently at the crowd and waits for the auction to begin.]

[ He waits for the chess set to come up for bidding, steadily out-pricing others as the number climbs. He doesn't want anyone else to have it bar Monet, and perhaps his silent glare assists in how he finally beats the other bidders once they lock eyes with an unimpressed six-foot Vulcan. It can't hurt.

When the set is wrapped in furs and the amount paid, he hands it to Monet. ]

[The glare of said six-foot Vulcan is combined with her own, and she makes certain it's anger instead of pride - she's aware how her pride affects people. The set's more expensive than she bought it for, she's sure, but it's hers now and that's a weight off her shoulders.]

Thank you. [She handles it as a precious object.] Do you play?

[dow]

I do, though in my experience two-dimensional boards lack the advanced forethought of three-dimensional. It is, however, still an acceptable means of play. If you wish it, I will make myself available to share a game with you in the future.

[ But not right now, because. Well, he has investigating to do. ]

Three-dimensional.

[That'd be a challenge for her if she ever thought to play, but she's got a few opponents in mind who could provide some fun on a 2D board, too.]

I wouldn't mind.
