FIVE BILLION LOGS!
Who: Mako (
firethepolice) and Amon (
amonfire)
What: ... Well, it was about time these two met each other.
When: End of January.
Where: Earth Sector
Warnings: TBD...
[Mako had to find his brother-- he figured he'd deliver the news about the job in person to him, as opposed to over the console. He still wasn't sure how Bo would feel about being volunteered up for something like this, given his new-found life as a movers star. Pro-bending might be firmly in the past for him, who knew?
But he knew the rules better than Mako did, which meant he'd be the best to get the measurements for a regulation-sized ring from. However, Mako didn't often go into the Earth Sector before Bolin lived there. There was just no reason, besides the time that he'd done errand running for a living. He wasn't lost, per se, but he didn't know the short-cuts he would take just yet.
So, as he walks down one of the alleys, it's a complete surprise who he sees just in the distance. There's a point where Mako does freeze, but then he forces himself to keep going.
As much as he'd rather just avoid Amon (or Noatak?), there was no reason to suspect that something would happen. All conflict with Korra aside, Mako was not the type of person to seek out fights for no reason.
So, he presses on.]

So, he presses on.]

Knelt down by a stone porch, Amon was speaking to an older kedan woman where she sat catty-corned to him on the crumbling steps. He held her arm gently as he examined the bend in the elbow where it was awkwardly thin and misshapen with arthritis and years of hard work. ]
Waterbending will ease the rheumatism, but I suggest something more...conventional for how the bones shaped after the break at the factory. Have one of your more able-bodied daughters walk you to the free clinic in your own time.
[ Completely oblivious to Mako, Amon was almost serene to look on as he gently spoke to the kedan. And in an instant the spell was broken; Amon jerked as he looked over his shoulder and stared squarely at Mako from down the alley. Frozen like a cat that had seen a bird his eyes were fixed on Mako, boring holes into him even from behind the mask. ]

Seeing it so suddenly was jarring, and despite himself, he slowed to a halt, his hands firmly in their pockets as he observed the scene. Did he say something? Because while he didn't like starting fights, he disliked the idea that Amon might be viewed as something of a saint.
Yeah, sure, that sainthood came with some pretty huge caveats.
But Mako had more control of himself than that, to actually say anything against Amon for the moment. Though he did linger longer than he wanted to.]

The kedan woman picked up on the tension in the air as if the temperature physically dropped to an uncomfortable chill. ]
Do you know that boy, Amon?
[ Amon stood up with his posture and stare sharp as a knife. ] As it would happen, I do. Mako? [ Amon intoned with an uncurrent of civility that was borderline mocking. ] Help me escort this nice woman to the clinic.

Guessing at what Amon's intentions were, Mako figured he was aiming for neutral territory. A defensive move. He wouldn't start a bloodbending fight, not like this.
At least, Mako hoped he wouldn't. But Mako wasn't bothering to hide that he was ready in case Amon tried anything... wily. Or worse.]
You need some help, ma'am?
[fine. He could approach her, giving Amon a wide berth]

Amon meanwhile had set an equally chilly distance between Mako and himself all while never once looking away from him as they started down the alley. ]
We're just past the apartment block; I'm sure one of my assistants can't take care of the rest if you needed something, Mako. [ Amon placed a cloying sort of friendly emphasis on Mako's name that even made him a little ill to the stomach. ]

So, he wouldn't be the one to do it.]
If she's alright. I think I just got lost on my way back home.
[a lie that wasn't believable in the slightest-- Mako was a born and bred city boy, and it would take a lot more for him to get lost in a place like Keeliai. Especially when the size of Keeliai was compared to Republic City.
He was trying to limit the reactions every time Amon decided to talk to him as though they were friends. They were nothing of the sort, and Mako didn't bother hiding that, the woman they were helping aside]

They said nothing and carried on down the alley and around the corner in tense silence. The small, one floor clinic stood out against the packed market square with its sunwashed sandstone walls and Chinese style wooden doorways and wrap-around patio. It catered almost exclusively to poor kedan still too cagey of the growing foreign population to go anywhere else. Making it something of an olive branch between the two groups although Amon never flaunted the fact.
A young kedan girl who looked, but not entirely quite, like a human came out of the building and smiled at the three. What stood out most was her distinct brown suit with its red piping and leather undercarriage: Equalist garbe. Amon nodded to her before pushing past into the building with the woman in tow. The girl turned to Mako and her smile turned from polite to surprisingly warm. ]
You're one of Korra's friends, aren't you?

He wasn't quite sure if this was a trap-- but considering Korra had been working to make reparations, he figured she was sincere, and until he felt he had reason to be threatened. So, he offers a serious nod. All wariness aside, Mako was far more serious than Korra, and it didn't seem entirely out of place]
Yeah. We're friends.
[He glanced after Amon, still keeping a wary eye on him, even as he considered which direction he should go. If he was going to leave, now would be the time, wouldn't it?]
no subject
Oh? Please, tell her I said thank you the next time you see your friend. Korra and Amon, I don't know if she'd remember the fire in the markets; it happened some time ago, but she and Amon saved my life.
[ The girl watched Amon lead the woman inside before turning back to Mako. Suddenly, she wasn't smiling. ]
We all know who and what he is; we're not as ignorant as a lot of the foreigners like to think.

He did not particularly feel like dealing with others.]
I figured when I saw the outfit.
[he places his hands in front of himself, clearly communicating that he had zero intention of starting a fight.]
I was just helping him out. I have somewhere else I need to be.
