[He looks a little sour about having to be reminded of that fact. Without his Persona, he's just a teenage kid with a couple daggers hidden in his jacket. Not exactly the kind of person who can take on a 500 pound bear.]
Well, is it dangerous? Can you dream us someplace without any wolves? [is that how it works...]
no subject
[He pats the axes at his side. There's very little that worry him in this swamp, except one thing, or many things depending if this is a perfect memory. One Darkspawn Hawke knows he can fight, even a small group, but a horde of them would be a bad thing.]
It's not wolves that I'm worried about.
[Hawke looks around at the dreamscape then back at Yosuke.]
Maybe? Possibly? This is a little outside my normal range of weirdness.
no subject
[As your punishment for dreaming up someplace with something worse than wolves, you're officially stuck with Yosuke for the time being, Hawke. He stomps over the rocks and roots in his way to go to your side and cross his arms.]
Well, lead the way, dream man. [pause.] What was your name again?
no subject
[Hawke doesn't plan on leaving him behind anyway. The kid seems a little worried about this whole ordeal. Just one reason Hawke appreciates not having to rely on magic and the like. He doesn't have to worry about losing such things either.]
It's Hawke. You're Yosuke right?
[He's good with names, even the weirder ones. Without waiting for an answer Hawke presses forward. Time to see if they can get out of here, or change the scenery somehow.]
no subject
[He can't help but sound a bit irreverent as they begin to walk again. It's not out of any kind of self-loathing, or even out of any desire to give Hawke a hard time - he's just feeling glum and a bit whiny over their dream situation.]
So, what is this... is this like, where you're from, or something? This forest?
no subject
More like one of many places I nearly died. It's not an experience I'm looking to...
[The scenery changes abruptly to rocky hills and plains dotted with small brush. Hawke instantly recognizes the area. Before he can even speak again the ground beings to shake beneath their feet.]
We need to go.
[Hawke does his best to keep the stress in his voice hidden.]
no subject
[But, run? What good will that do in an earthquake? They're surrounded by trees; Yosuke is pretty sure they're fucked as far as avoiding falling debris is concerned. Maybe they should get back in the water...
...but no, he said earlier that there were worse things in this forest than wolves. This rumbling couldn't be something like that, could it?
With that possibility in mind, there is no need to tell Yosuke twice. He swiftly draws close to Hawke's side and follows him.]
What's going on??
no subject
[Even if Yosuke doesn't Hawke is already positioning himself in front of the teenager. Hawke draws his axes, ready for a fight. This is his dream so he'll be the one to fight what's coming.
Finally the source of the thundering footsteps appears. A massive, brutish monster with black curling horns charges them. In one of its clawed hands it holds a young man only a few years older than Yosuke, and bears a resemblance to Hawke. He barely moves in the creature's hand.
As it notices Hawke and Yosuke, it roars and charges. Not before before throwing the young man hard against a rock way. Despite knowing it's a dream, that none of this is real, Hawke's stomach sinks.]
Carver!
[Then, just like that, Hawke springs into action. He seizes Yosuke by his shirt and all but throws him out of the way of the charging monster before leaping in another direction.]
no subject
Immediately, Yosuke feels himself tense as a gut-reaction to sudden danger, instilled in him after days and days of cautiously exploring the TV world back home. Shouldn't they run? This guy can't possibly be planning to fight that thing, can he? That's completely insane. Maybe if Yosuke had his Persona, they could manage it, but he has no confidence a regular person could take it down - not even a big guy with a pair of axes...
The sight only gets worse as the young man in its hand - is he part of the dream, or is that someone from Keeliai? Yosuke can't tell - is violently discarded. Hawke hardly needed to push him out of the way; even after Yosuke is thrown out of the path of the monster he springs back onto his feet to begin moving in the opposite direction before it turns around to come back.]
What -- [the sudden rush of panic makes it difficult for him to really talk, but - What the hell is that?! That person --
no subject
As the ogre charges by like a bull Hawke jumps to his feet. His eyes fall on the beast and he knows he can kill it. It may have been terrifying years ago but he's done so much more since then. He can kill it, but can he a dream die? Hawke looks to Yosuke, then to the limp body of Carver, his little brother.]
Less talking more running!
[Hawke turns towards the ogre who lumbers around to face him. Slowly he backpedals away from the creature. Fighting isn't on his mind right now but he'll serve as bait to keep it away from Yosuke. He needs to change this somehow, take them somewhere else. This is his dream so he should be able to shape it how he wants. As Hawke tries to focus, his eyes fall on the limp body one more time. So yet again, he's leaving his brother behind.]
no subject
Frowning, he reaches out and grabs the inside of Hawke's elbow, pulling him backwards.]
You're coming too! Are you stupid?! This isn't real, but you can still die from it! Let's just go!
no subject
[But as Yosuke pulls Hawke doesn't fight. If Yosuke's this determined to bring Hawke with him it's useless to fight it. The last thing he wants is for the kid to get killed because he was being stubborn.
Just as Hawke moves a massive fist swings through the air missing him by inches. With a shove he pushes Yosuke towards a rocky path only a few yards away. Hawke follows, thinking furiously about leaving this place, being somewhere else, being home. Behind them the ogre charges but just as their feet touch the path they're somewhere completely different.
It's a small, but bustling village. People go about their day, completely ignoring Hawke's and Yosuke's sudden arrival in the village square. A peaceful river runs through the village with a short bridge connecting to the other side. The two biggest buildings are a tavern and what looks like some kind of church, each on their respective sides of the river almost as if the two buildings were facing off against each other.
The sudden change causes Hawke to stumble and nearly trip to the ground. He recovers and gazes in shock at the village around them before slumping against a nearby stone wall.]
Maker I'm beginning to hate my brain.
no subject
He's taking long strides, the first few steps that precede an all-out sprint, when the surroundings suddenly change before his eyes. It's immediately disorienting and it makes him stumble too, but somehow he manages to keep from falling to the ground.
There's only a second to take in the new setting (or rather, fail to truly take in the new setting) before he spins around to look behind them, searching for the ogre and whether or not it came here with them.]
What the -- [it's gone, which is a relief, but...] Can't you make up your mind, old man?
no subject
Don't call me old. I'm still trying to figure this out.
[But it worked. Sort of. It's not the home he was thinking of, or at least not the one he thought he was thinking of. Hawke thinks he's getting a handle on controlling the dreams though. Maybe.]
If you don't like then let's see you try to work this out.
no subject
Owwwww. [whine.] It's your dream. I don't have to do anything.
[Jeez. As he rubs the side of his head, he finally has a chance to take in the changed surroundings. Whatever this place is, it's much more positive and normal compared to that creepy swamp. It looks like Hawke actually took his advice and dreamed them somewhere else. He didn't think that would work, but here they are. Nice job, old man.
...still. Now that the danger's subsided, Yosuke is catching his breath and realizing what just happened. His cautious gaze returns to Hawke.]
Hey... uh... are you alright?
[he's pretty sure that dream was a memory. it didn't look like a very happy one...]
no subject
[There's little bite to the reprimand. In fact there's no bite at all. Hawke is merely being a brat. He's the adult here so he can do what he wants.
He's also trying his best to not focus on what's going on around them right now. There are seven people in the world that know about all of this and they're family to him. Having someone else see his weaker moments is...upsetting.]
Things could be better.
[The cheeriness in his voice remains, but he sounds a little more tired now.]
no subject
Thankfully for Hawke, there's really no reason to suspect there to be any real significance to where they are now. It's what they just came from that he worries about.]
... do we need to go back?
[a silly question after he insisted Hawke dream them somewhere else, but...]
no subject
For what? A corpse?
[Hawke shakes his head.]
Not even that, a fake corpse.
[Finally he pushes off the wall and straightens.]
No, he died years ago. It's a little latte to save him now.
heehee latte /shot
[Yosuke can sort of relate, here. What if that were his own dream, and he'd just watched an image of Saki-senpai being killed? Just thinking of that being a possibility in this dream world makes him anxious. And that's pretty much what Hawke just went through, right?
It's really none of his business, though, which only makes his concern more complicated. Perhaps he shouldn't be snooping on this topic at all, but it's hard for Yosuke to turn a blind eye to someone who's probably feeling torn-up inside.
Pondering, he shifts his weight, crosses his arms, and looks down at the dirt.]
... hm. [they should keep moving, or go do something else.] Where are we now?
this is why I shouldn't tag when tired
[His tone makes it obvious that he's done talking about this. Hawke's already been warned about chasing dreams in this place. The last thing he wants is to be lost in some dream world and never come out.]
Lothering. I was born here.
[At the moment he's happy to talk about anything that's not his brother.]
Last I checked though it was burned to the ground.
no subject
Yosuke sucks his teeth and tries to keep the awkward at a minimum.]
...if you don't want to be here either, I can try to dream us somewhere else. If you can do it, I can.
[but if he does want to stay, Yosuke is going to have one suggestion: tavern. something smells awesome and the food they were given in their backpacks is just sort of okay.]
no subject
There's something I want to test first, come on.
[Hawke motions his hand for Yosuke to follow him as he heads toward the tavern. It seems that Hawke has the same thing on his mind as Yosuke does.]
no subject
[Yosuke won't have any objection to whatever he wants to do. It's his dream, after all - and after a scare like the one they just had, he's happy to oblige the old man in whatever might comfort him.]
no subject
When they enter the bar it's just as he remembers it, which only makes sense he supposes. To their right is the bar with a door leading into the kitchen behind it. A fireplace sits to their left and lanterns hang from the ceiling . It's simple but cozy and the only tavern available to the people here.
Hawke looks down at his hand and concentrates. Sure enough, a coin bag appears in his hand and he knows it's full of gold sovereigns. He made it after all. Then he hands the bag to Yosuke.]
Here, get whatever you want. I'm going to get a table.
[Hawke wants to know if Yosuke can interact with this world as much as he can. He also wouldn't mind knowing if eating 'dream food' will actually fill them.]
no subject
When he reaches out, he does in fact feet the fabric of the bag on the tips of his fingers as he touches it. To his surprise, he's able to take the bag from his hand easily.]
...man. That's amazing.
[A part of him almost wonders why people wouldn't want to just stay in this place forever. But only almost. Considering the possibility of nightmares... it's not necessarily the best idea. Well, whatever - he walks off with a grin on his face, leaving Hawke behind. Hell yeah, it's totally time to booze it up in the dream world!]
