Situation: Yelena and Annabeth make trips to the mainland for adventures and exploring!

You underestimate me if you think someone else could easily sway me like that.

[She's carrying on the conversation, but her brain is spinning a mile a minute at the same time.]

[demon_brat]

Those who go after Batman and Robin never go for 'easy,' woman. That is why there are masks in the first place.

[There may be a bit of a grump, in his voice.]

[sophos]

[Insta-frown.] And you think I don't know what hard is? [She's pretty much lost track of how many times she's come close to death at this point.]

[But honestly, all he's doing is making her more determined. It hasn't slipped her mind that he hasn't denied anything she's said yet - that means she's on the right track.] I get the secrecy thing and the need for it, but I'm not an idiot.

[She narrows her eyes. Almost there.]

[demon_brat]

No. I think you should not want more of it when you can avoid it.

[Low. Sharp. Yes, there is anger and irritation, but he's trying to keep it... something. Within the parameter of arguments that can be acceptable, rather than automatically discarded.]

I can deal with my own enemies. You don't have to, too.

[sophos]

Avoiding it's usually not possible for me. [She sounds annoyed, but at what that means more than the fact he said it.]

That'd be my choice, wouldn't it? Assuming you have that say over me is arrogant. [Haha that's hilarious Annabeth talking about arrogance.]

I do know you.

[demon_brat]

Then I'm arrogant.

[0 problem owning up to that.]

Although I thought I was giving you arguments to make the reasonable choice, rather than the rash one.

[sophos]

Yeah, probably. [Good to see he admits it!]

It's reasonable to you. [But Annabeth likes to know things. Sometimes that desire to know pushes logic and rationale out of the way. Her tone has also taken a shift - she's pretty sure she's got this now, and there's new recognition in her tone. The arrogance sort of cinched it.]

[demon_brat]

And I've been given good reasons for it to be reasonable.

[Note: he didn't come up with them. He had to be convinced.]

[sophos]

I don't doubt that. People will find a reason for anything.

You're Damian, aren't you? [Between the skillset - though it wasn't like when she sparred with the kid before exactly - the attitude, the familiarity, the banter - not to mention a minimal pool of choices.]

[demon_brat]

Sometimes, those reasons are good.

[Siiiilence, but he doesn't break his stride.]

[sophos]

[She completely just drops the first part, because she's too invested in the latter.]

Should I take the silence as confirmation? [She is watching him carefully.]

[demon_brat]

Take it as you will.

[Gruff, grumpy. He so doesn't like this conversation at all.]

[sophos]

[Annabeth smirks a little. She got it, she totally got it. She's more wrapped up in the fact that she was able to figure it out and being proud of that than the part where Damian has a secret identity.]

I'm not going to go babbling about it, so don't worry.

[demon_brat]

[He's quiet for a little while longer, mouth set in a firm line.]

It's likely that you won't like the consequences if you do, so that's probably wiser.

[He's not even threatening her. It's a simple statement of fact.]

[sophos]

[She rolls her eyes. Yes, she has the gall to do that.] I've lost track of the number of consequences I don't like. But it's not my secret to share, so I won't be doing it. [A nonchalant shrug.]

You don't need to tell me about wisdom though, considering my mother is the goddess of it. [Yeah she totally just. Drops that nbd. She sort of figures if he's being so uptight about his identity, she can share her parentage.]

[demon_brat]

[Things that are still very, very recent in Damian's life so he's surprised when he encounters them: decency. So he just hums at that statement, but, after a moment, he nods a bit, accepting it.]

[But. Then.]

Wisdom? Putting you where monsters find you by smell?

[Damian just might be a little bit overcritical of mothers, at this stage of his life.]

[sophos]

Athena. My mother is Athena. Monsters can track a demigod's scent. [Yeah she's kind of a demigod oops??] It's an unfortunate part of the life style.

[demon_brat]

[Sorry, Robin is a little too cranky right now to be impressed.]

And the goddess of wisdom Pallas Athena, can't figure out a way to protect her child. Or is it children?

Like I said. Very wise, sounds like.

[sophos]

[She gets a vaguely annoyed look on her face.] Children. And the gods - they don't fight their kids' battles. We learn how to defend ourselves. She's - she's helped me in the past, though.

[demon_brat]

There are your battles, and there are the battles foisted on you because of what you are. I'm sure Athena should be able to make the difference.

[Not a subject he finds easy to let go, no.]

[sophos]

[The annoyance increases.] Stop talking like you know my situation.

[A demigod's life is full of general awfulness and fighting monsters, but all things considered, Athena's been one of the more involved parents. As much as the last argument they had still weighs on her.]

[demon_brat]

Stop thinking it cannot be improved!

[sophos]

I didn't say that either. [She snaps it.] But you don't know any more than I told you, and that is not enough to create a valid opinion on my situation.

[demon_brat]

And I don't need to. Your situation is irrelevant, here, or we would not be talking, would we?

[sophos]

Then don't act like it.
