EVENT | LANDFALL | VALISHAERA

Characters: ALL!
Date: JULY 13-26
Location: Valishaera
Situation: Tu Vishan has made landfall on Siaxhi, to explore the Dreaming Watch City of Valishaera.
Warnings/Rating: Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

As Tu Vishan draws near, the heavy jungle visible even from miles out quickly identifies the landmass as Siaxhi, one of the westernmost continents in Konryu and one that has been largely untouched insofar as the kedan themselves have gone. There is a natural inlet along the southeast shore on the continent and Tu Vishan makes for that, though he fills nearly all of it.

She starts to move the moment the snake falls, eager to protect her friend whether he needs it or not. Hawke means something to her. Seeing him get hurt in anyway is something Nilin absolutely wants to avoid.

In the time it takes Hawke to slice the snake in two, Nilin is on full alert, her arm outstretched towards him and circles of data wrapped around her arm. A charged blast waits at her fingertips, ready to fire at her command. It's the first time she's really used her abilities around him.

"We should be on our guard, by the looks of it."

She drops her hand, any signs of what she just did gone in an instant.

To his first words, Nilin just smirks. He's not the only one who likes their banter. When he points to the deer, she takes a moment to examine it before nodding. "Yes, we've got something like that too. Also, less blue. I've never seen one up close though."

Hell, she's hardly seen any animals up close. Her life, her city, just aren't quite open to that kind of thing.

That was definitely not what she'd expected to happen. Her face pales and her expression turns to one of horror as Korra comes crashing down. She's not entirely sure what just happened, if it was always going to be like that or if her being there at changed things in some way. The look on her friends face suggested the latter. Sarah quietly hoped she was wrong.

Forcefields are a new ability to the girl, and while she's grown fairly good at bringing one up around herself, however weak it may be, protecting others is something she hasn't worked out yet. That doesn't stop her from trying though. Unfortunately for Sarah, the best she does is set a bubble around herself as she runs towards where Korra fell.

"K-Korra?!" Please don't be dead.

"Maybe this one is just feeling a bit down." Hawke tries to keep a straight face at his own dumb joke but he just can't. A smile slowly spreads across his lips. His gaze turns just a fraction to see if it gets any sort of reaction from her.

"We can always try to get a little closer." If they move carefully and quietly he's certain they can get closer to the creature than they are now.
iwannabeadragon: (I'm sorry was that your dog?)

His eyes move from the snake to Nilin and what she's doing. Hawke knows she can fight. Fighting the city's gangs was one of the first times they met face to face. However he's never seen her do anything like she's doing now. It's fascinating and confusing all at the same time.

After she lowers her arm he wants to ask her what that was, but decides that it might be best to wait. It reminds him that while she is still his closest friend, they know relatively little about each their pasts. Maybe when this is over he'll take some time to fix that.

Hawke continues to grip his axes tightly, not about to set them aside now they know actual danger is about. "Seems the wildlife here doesn't have a sense of humor."

He looks down to Notch who sniffs the snake's corpse experimentally. "And where were you? Don't tell your sniffer is stopped up."

The hound looks at Hawke and huffs once before dropping into a guarded stance.

[She wouldn't have blamed him for looking differently at her now, reevaluated priorities or no. She was a spy. Part of her still instinctively clung to that training--she had been snooping around some of the kedan local areas lately. Seeing what was going on, and attempting to uncover certain shady deals. Oh, not that she would dare intrude herself. She was sneaky, not stupid; everything she uncovered, once she had enough visual proof for certainty, went straight to local authorities.]

[But there was still that snitch stigma hanging over her head. A lingering uncertainty of whether or not to trust someone like her.]

I never made it that far in school.

But you're wrong. There will always be somebody to report to. If not a teacher, than a boss. Or a commander. Being left on your own can be dangerous where I come from, and not just for me.

Why would you think a thing like that?

[See this face, Wally? This sweet, young, completely innocent face, right here? Would this face ever purposely try to mess with you for no tangible reason?]

Yes, but isn't Asti himself a being of this world? Land for living is created by the turtles that have been lost. Perhaps the question is whether or not his power and the magic that is infused with this world are the same or simply complementary.

[He sounds thoughtful and speaking to Zatanna while also speaking to himself.]

[He gives a small quirk of his lips--before heading off himself to survey the area. The dangers seem relatively minor although the flora and fauna vary greatly. There is also a lack of people in this world, despite the fact there is a stable gateway. Thankfully he finds a river and uses it to boost himself onto a higher level, landing on one of the mushrooms so he can look around the area on a broader scale.

He wonders if Wally has found anything more substantial.]

He puts a hand on his hip with a scoff.

"It was merely a suggestion. Isn't yellow kind of... counterproductive for missions in the dark or when you have to hide?"

That made sense, he guessed, so he simply gave the man a nod in understanding. If he managed to write and keep the writing long enough to bring it to him, he might even be really helping him- otherwise he'll just end up being a nuisance. So he decides to put his mind to it.

"Do you have a name, by the way?"

There are no giant turtles, for one. Or 'turtles' of any sort.

"Yeah. I figure once it sinks in that I'm not going to actually sink..." Zelgadis said. But training out instincts that were actually functional is not that easy. After all, unlike many humans, Zelgadis did usually sink like a stone in water, and had experiences like that. At least the water felt different now; he could feel the buoyancy in his limbs even wading.

No, we have turtles. None as big as Asti over there, but there were some decently sized ones out in the oceans.

"That depends on to whom you speak," Solomon said, "and from which era they come." He smiled slightly and it was a touch bitter. "Ireland is one of the most magical places on Earth, but it has been the target of many hard conversions. Most of our ancient history has been lost. Much of it needs to be picked from embellishments and religious indoctrination, and much of it, again, is magical in nature and thus secret from mortals."

He touched the mushroom again, more for something to do while he organised his thoughts. "Long ago," he began, "the world was ruled by what sorcerers call the Faceless Ones, but which the past Irish called the fomoire. They were gods of chaos and cruelty, giants and titans, who used humanity's ancestors as their slaves and playthings. But there were those among the people who possessed great talents of magic, and they refused to be oppressed."

Solomon glanced sideways at Raine. "These were the Tuatha Dé Danann, what sorcerers call the Ancients. The Faceless Ones had great defences, but the Ancients were cunning. They took the Faceless Ones' greatest weapon and imbued it with their desire for freedom, the most powerful force they had at their disposal, and they used it to drive the Faceless Ones from our plane of existence entirely. But the Ancients fell to squabbling, and used the weapon against one another, until only one was left. When he realised how such power had brought them low he cast the weapon into the earth, where it was swallowed forever."

Or so the tale went, but Solomon and a handful of others knew better. The line of the Ancients lived, and so did the Sceptre. ... Relatively speaking.

"The line of the Ancients was lost after that," Solomon continued, "but as I said, mortal lore says the Tuatha Dé Danann left our shores. Some say they left willingly, which is a possibly interpretation of the legend of the Ancients. Others say they were tricked by the next wave of Ireland's inhabitants into living 'underground', which could well be a euphemism for another plane of existence. Whichever is true, they are gone and have become legend only."

"Ah, I was not quite the philosopher amongst my little group of friends. I think they'd laugh to hear you say THAT."

Enjolras lets his own gaze drift out as well, a little past Tu Vishan,so that he's not entirely certain what he's looking at anymore. It works, really, considering his thoughts have headed off on their own little adventure into lord knows what at this point.

"Still, I think, in the end, every effort one can make is worth it, even for a world that they might never come to see, or that their efforts aren't rewarded in. It has to be for something, right?"
solo_patria: (canony: do you hear)

[personal profile] solo_patria 2014-07-29 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
[The training explained quite a bit more at least about how she had come to be found here just now. Enjolras was not filled with the immediate distaste he had had for Javert after learning the truth at least, and well, in any place but here, the admission would have been the end of things as far as being friendly went.

At home, Enjolras might have used her, actually, as a young woman could get into many places that men could not, and could also be ignored in a great deal of conversations, even important ones that may have been of use in one way or other. It would not have been a friendly, or even relatively respectful business relationship, but still. He could count on both fingers, and then some, the times that a female spy would have worked out quite well. Why had he not thought of it, why had this not been a tactic? He could almost kick himself for that right now.]

Damn it all. [Those words were actually muttered out loud.] We could have used the women.

As much as he had wished the Revolution and the Republic to have remained pure, perhaps more underhanded tactics would have been of use. And the ends that they had found themselves at, even the ends that they had tried for, would have more than justified the means. In fact, he could think of nothing that he had done in the name of Revolution that had not been perfectly justified by the ends that they had gotten, or desired.]

Wives and mistresses, even servants must have heard so much.

[And then, in the midst of that musing, he slightly remembered that he was talking to an actual girl, and actual spy, and blinked a little.]

Ah, that was probably rude. I was just realizing a mistake we made in trying to keep our victories completely pure. That was something of a mistake, I think.

Then I was luckier than I knew, that my life was not so full of those. At least not those who were worthy of being reported to in any greater sense. Those who I chose to share it with were more than worthy, they were equals. I am glad, too, that they were such who would never have left me on my own.

There's a lot about herself that Nilin hasn't told anyone, be it here or back at home. This past few months has been different though. In Neo-Paris, she didn't need to say these things. People simply knew of her or witnessed it for themselves. Here, there's no one to spread the information.

She's not sure how to feel when he doesn't question her actions. On one hand, she appreciates the privacy. On the other, him asking would get to explaining something she's not sure where to start with.

"Either that or you need to work on your material," Nilin says, smirking. Her gaze moves skyward, from the direction the snake came. "I wonder, if we get higher, what would we see?"

And what else would try to kill them.

She rolls her eyes at the joke, but the smile on her face is real. "I'm game, provided you don't scare it off with that humour of yours."

But she's already quietened her step and is creeping towards the creature. If worst comes to worse, invisibility is an option for her.

"I'm Frank." He said, raising an eyebrow. Was he one of those superheroes with secret identity? But no, they wouldn't actually share they had more than one identity. Would they?

"I'll be right back, Solomon." Like the king, right? Cool name, Frank thought.

A muffled grunt came out as her fingers dug down into the soft ground and her other hand came out to help drag herself out from beneath the toppled shroom. The moment her head was out, Korra looked up to see Sarah and gave a bit of an abashed smile. With the ground being so soft and forgiving, it must have looked a lot worse than it felt.

Still, Korra's face was dirty and she was likely to bruise a bit from that height. "Hey. You're okay. I didn't think- Wha-" But her vision focused more and she was stuck staring at the bubble that encompassed the little girl, enough the she forgot about pulling the bottom half of herself out from the mushroom that would probably dig her more into the ground if she stayed.

He appreciates privacy as well but in this whole time he's never said a word about himself either. Maybe it's because he never had to before now. His companions stood with him through the thick of most everything. They all know what he's been through. Nilin hasn't but he trusts her just as much. She deserves to know more about him as well.

"It's not my fault their humor is lacking," Hawke says, turning his nose towards the air in a haughty manner. It fades quickly into his wry grin from earlier.

His gaze then follows hers towards the canopy. "If I were to take a guess I would say even more trees. Only one way to find out though. Let me boost you up."

Moving to the nearest tree, Hawke laces his hands together in order to give her a boost into its branches.
