Mission Duration: 2-3 days.
Mission Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆
Mission Type: Gathering the ability to detect corruption, and information on the imprisoned souls.
Projected Plot Impact: Some characters will get the ability to detect corruption from the death realm and Malicant in others.
Proposed Worldbuilding Changes: The characters chosen by the monks will have gained the ability to detect corruption- to an extent! As such, it’ll be easier to tell if someone who’s being manipulated by Malicant is near them.

The ritual (actually more like classes, really) will not take more than two or three days, depending on the natural ability the characters have and their willingness to learn. A big part of the training will be spent traveling between the two worlds, as the monks say it’s a way to notice the differences in the way the corruption spreads through the realms. In both life and death, pure energy beings like Malicant stand out and people can be trained to detect the kinds of energy that does not “belong”.

THE RITUAL:
It’s divided in three phases, and they have to go through all of them or it will have consequences. The ritual makes their energy align with the three realms and thrive in the three of them, but not going through all of it will mean the energy isn’t balanced. If your character would leave the training at one point, contact the mod for the consequences.

The characters will be told everything they want or need to know about the process- it’s not exactly dangerous, but since they will have to get in contact with the death realm at one point they will be warned about the usual dangers of contacting it.

Life: The characters will have to find scattered items from the dreaming realm in the living part of the city.

Dreaming: The character will have to learn how to control different buildings in the dreaming realm until they do not change shape anymore.

Death: Similar to the first mission, the characters will have to find scattered items from the dreaming realm on the other side of the portal. But it's not so easy when it's your deepest nightmares and fears that are hiding them. With difference, the hardest part of the training.

Bucky had been troubled on the subject of who might be tainted by Malicant since his discoveries in the Palace, weeks ago - he had been worried, before, but then it had become far more immediate, somehow.

So, when he was contacted about a process through which he could find out who was tainted, he didn't hesitate.

So here he was, watching, listening, and nodding respectfully to the one in charge. "I'm ready."

She gave the young man a nod. A strong will, loyalty, and a very clear head would become very useful when undergoing this training and she could already tell the man had them in spades. Her eyes had taken peaceful blue color when she turned towards him.

"Your first part of the training will happen in the Life realm. If you have any questions you should ask before we head there and I explain the mission to you."

"I have one," Leonardo speaks suddenly, his head turning from surveying the others to look at the woman. He tilts his head slightly, arms crossed, and his tone is one part suspicious, two parts curiosity. "Why us? What makes us so special?"

He's been watching the group from the start. Korra he understood, but the others he's never met - and among them, a young girl. The monks who whisked them away had said something vague about 'alignments', but it's looking more like a lottery win than anything else at this point.

"A variety of things." She admits after a pause, trying to put into thoughts what is so clear to their eyes.

"Maybe it's innocence, and innocence that will make the veil between what is real and what is not clearer. Maybe it's determination, loyalty, a simple knack for telling lies apart. In some cases, it's simply noticing the little details." A twitch of her lip, her eyes taking an amused green color for a moment before continuing.

"Whatever the reason, your..." A pause, looking for the right word once again. ·"Energy, your soul has the ability to see things as they truly are. If we teach you how to, that is."

Leonardo's question is one Korra's been curious about also. If she's there, then she assumed both Wan and Aang would have been selected as well; but she stands next to the turtle and listens to the answer. It kind of makes sense to her, all the Avatars were the same soul yet differed from each other in varying degrees.

She practically slides behind Leonardo at the last statement.

"What happens if someone can't balance their chi- Energy? Will they be stuck?"

She shakes her head.

"Hardly. This is simply traveling between the realms. The worst that can happen is having a bad experience in the death realm, but if I think you are in any kind of danger I would anchor you all back here.

At worst you will simply not learn how to properly train your energy."

People being influenced by Malicant hadn't occurred to Akito when he first arrived, and it wasn't until after the last attacks that he really began to second-guess the motive behind the actions of strangers. It isn't even that he's worried for himself so much as he's worried about Quintus, or Sarah. Learning how to distinguish between those being manipulated and those who aren't would be a great relief. And useful, to more than just himself.

Seeing that Sarah is undertaking the same mission makes him want to ask more questions before proceeding though. "How dangerous will it be?" And another thought - "It won't interfere with the connections the baby turtles have with us, will it?"

"I cannot answer the first question, as it will be just as dangerous as your mind makes it to be. You will not be harmed, for I will make sure of that and anchor you to this place if needed. But the death realm is full of tricks, and you should expect the unexpected.

As for the connection with the Tel Vishan..." A moment of hesitation, eyes turning purple before going to her usual dark blue. "No, it will not. Your energy will be the same, you will simply have trained it."

"So if we know our own minds well, it should be easier than if we didn't?" If so, Akito knows he'll have an advantage there. It's still mildly worrying, as he doesn't necessarily trust this woman, but it also isn't as though he has much of a choice. He wants to learn this ability, and so he'll take the risk.

He notices her hesitation and the change in her eyes, yet doesn't know what to make of it. "So they'll be fine?"

"They will be fine, and the bond you share will also be protected. No harm will come to them, in any way.

But this bond you share..." She pauses once more. "It's really unlike anything we've seen."

All the pauses are beginning to make him nervous. "That's good then, ne?"

[wickerwood]

"It's good, because it brings us hope. But it's also something we do not have any kind of experience with, something with a lot of unanswered questions. I know they will not be harmed, though, that much I can assure you."

She's the youngest here by far, and it's a little unnerving, but Sarah's determined to do her part. This is something she can do that will be of use. Thus she folds her arms across her chest and tries not to look too nervous.

"Um, what if we can't do it? Like, I mean, we try but... What if we don't beat the training? Does anything happen?"

The advantage that Sarah has, being the youngest of the group, is that she'll likely have everyone watching out for her. And even if everyone else isn't, she has Akito watching out for her, which makes up for it. So don't be nervous, friend.

"You'll definitely beat the training, and nothing bad will happen." He sidles up next to her and gives her a playful hip-check. "Striker-chan has a shark on her side, after all!"

There's a doubt in her mind that's forever present; that she won't be good enough to help in any way. The kid can't help but worry that for all her efforts, she'll be more of a burden than an aid.

Akito's words bring a broad smile to her lips and she nudges him in return. "Yeah, yeah you're right." With a nod, the girl takes a deep breath and looks a little more determined. It's game time. She won't go down without a fight and there's a team here with her. "We got this."

She shakes her head.

"The very nature of your souls makes it so we know, for sure, you have the capacity to beat the training. It might be hard for you at some point but we would never have chosen anyone who couldn't have gone through it. So do not worry, we know you can do what we will ask of you.

If you voluntarily choose to give up, though, there will be consequences. We're aligning your soul with the different realms, and not going through with all of them will have consequences."

For the most part Solomon was content to stand and allow the others to ask questions while he examined each of them. He wasn't surprised he himself had been chosen--he already had a more-than-incidental connection to the Death Plane, after all. But the others, he did have to wonder.

And at that answer, he had to wonder further.

"What sort of consequences?" he asked mildly. Not that it was surprising, but he had had quite a bit of magical consequences lately and he really could prefer to be properly forewarned this time.

"It depends on the person." It showed, how frustrated she was at not being able to give more specific answers.

"Dreams might haunt you while in the life realm. Perhaps dreaming will seem hollow now, empty and frustrating. Death is the last realm you will visit to avoid more dangerous consequences, so nothing deadly. It will not actively harm you.

And you could always change your mind and take the training where you left it."

"I was thinking on a scale of one to ten," Solomon clarified dryly, "with one being a mild nuisance and ten being a permanently debilitating backlash, but that will suffice, I suppose." They certainly didn't seem to be more than incidentally frustrating, and they sounded temporary to boot.

Not that Solomon planned to back out, but it was nice to know when the options were available.

The Life Plane seemed to Solomon to be the most prudent to explore first--not to mention the safest. He wasn't particularly interested in having team-mates, but there were at least two children in the mix and it would at least also be prudent to make sure no harm came to them. Particularly since one was attached to Pleasant, and Solomon did not need responsibility by association should anything happen to the boy.

In either case, Solomon would under other circumstances have enjoyed a bit of a treasure-hunt. Usually it was used as a training technique, but Solomon always enjoyed them; especially since there was very little danger in hunting around this particular plane. He started in the jungle, where the ruins were, based on nothing more than the knowledge that very few of the city's past living inhabitants had actually died.
