October Catch-All

Characters: Katara, Open
Date: October
Location: Wood Sector mostly
Situation: Katara's Balancing Act
Warnings/Rating:Lots and lots of hurt feels

Katara, as of late, is stuck in a very tentative balance between her own healing and doing her best to be the strength of those around her. She's starting to wear thin and is far too close to breaking, but she's determined not to let it interfere with her aiding the others.

Stresses/Situations include:

-Physically, Katara has yet to heal completely from Zuko's fire.
-The entire poisoned Zuko situation. Her efforts to heal him have been completely ineffective, for which she feels personally guilty. She's having to watch him fall apart and can do nothing to stop him. There's no way to help him carry his burden except to let him hurt her, which, unfortunately for her friends and brother, she's willing to do. She is also battling romantic feelings toward him as well: this level of dedication to someone's wellbeing definitely has an effect on the heart, and she is no exception. The fact that they arrived together out of a particularly desperate moment back home also doesn't help. (Or does it)
-Though her own turtle was spared, Katara is devastated over the murder of the babies, particularly Korra's.
-She's well aware that her bloodbending capability is emotionally scarring, and now she's having to watch over a hurt and very hesitant avatar. She's healing him in silence (after the Kedan's fail assassination attempt) when he allows her near enough, but the tension is wearing her down to the point of actual frustration, both toward him and herself.

She will, however, attempt to hide as many of these as she can from everyone including Aang, her brother, and Akito, lest she be even more of a burden on an already dark situation.

(( Threads are open to any situation you like :) ))

Sokka actually isn't phased nor disturbed by Katara's obvious disdain for his comment. He actually welcomes it quite openly, almost smirking knowingly at Korra, confidently sticking a thumb out towards his sister, as if to nonverbally say, "Isn't she cute correcting him like that?"

"So you actually mean there's actually like real land here? Not just weird wandering turtles?" he asks. Even if Korra wants to dismiss it, it piqued Sokka's curiosity. "Seems kind of silly to have both of them, don't you think?"

But no matter; there was the question of frozen food to be discussed. "I suppose it probably would be helpful; otherwise I'm going to have to wait until it melts." And by the tone of his voice, Sokka doesn't sound interested in waiting until it melts.

Korra gave Sokka a look and her mouth was left open, slack. That simple silly observation had more to it than he would have known. She finally took her gaze off him to address Katara.

"Yeah, let’s do that. I’ve had to rely on making home dishes a lot when I first got here." They were disasters at first, but she got good enough at it soon enough. "Sokka, you good with chopping the meat?"

Sokka was insightful? Even *I* didn't know!

It certainly must have had more to it for Korra to have that sort of response; however, it's not like Sokka could know the answer to that having not even seen a landfall once here. Nevertheless, he will catch the gaze, and that question will form, but it will never get asked because things move forward from there.

"Am I ever good with working with meat?" he says suddenly distracted with the promise of nice juicy succulent meat. Dinner could easily postpone the most fervent question. "You just leave that part to me." In fact, that was about the only part of preparing dinner that Sokka knew: for everything else, he left that to Katara.

Korra followed in last, eager to get her hands doing something important even if she hadn’t cooked in a while.

"A lot." Korra included herself in the we. "There are still things that are new to me, even after all this time. But, about the land." She focused on getting the seasonings, keeping herself looking through cupboards. "Asti wasn’t the only turtle, there used to be a lot of them. There isn’t any natural land. All the earth, plantlife, and creatures are on top of turtles. Their, bodies, make up the continents."

Korra slowly took down an armful of bottled seasonings.

Sokka lets Korra unthaw the meat, but once he was able to get his hands upon it, Sokka takes it over to the counter and takes out one of the kitchen knives—as opposed to his own knife—and begins to cut up pieces for their soon-to-come Water Tribe feast. He's still listening as he begins the preparations for the food, but when Korra mentions about there not actually being land that he slips and makes an errant cut, thankfully not across his skin, but he skewers one of the pieces of meat.

"Wait, what? There's no land?" he says with a little bit of disbelief. "You mean it's turtles allllllll the way down to the bottom of the ocean?" He just blinks at that and shakes his head. "This place is really weird."
