Wan had sent the messages from his console after spending a few hours mediating under his lantern. It was all the time he was going to spare for that consideration while he still felt that Zuko needed him there. Not all the time, since he was getting better and obviously so, but enough that he wanted to stay with him in the building that had been secured from further intrusions by violent kedan.

He wasn't going to wait for messages back, just hope that the people he contacted would come.

For those who've heard about this indirectly and want in

Wan had gotten the word out mostly through Dante and Michelangelo, and had high hopes that whomever they contacted would get in touch with him. Since they knew so many more people than he did. He was nervous, but he'd given both firm answers about where he could be found. And maybe, just maybe, they could get organized enough to pull this off. Without Wan's soul being ripped apart or swallowed by the vastness of Asti's own personality and lifeforce.

"The spirit I'm bonded to," Wan said flatly. "The one I share my soul with."

He could tell from the cold look she gave him that she thought he was being hypocritical. So with no small amount of petty joy, he finished with, "The Avatar, me, Korra, Aang wouldn't exist if she had not possessed me and made it possible for us to permanently bond."

Katara only looked on at him, resisting the urge to roll her eyes.

"So how is this going to work?" she continued, purely business now as she hid her concern. "Who's going to be protecting you? I could do that much, at least."

Wan let out a grumpy snort, but straightened his shoulders and shrugged, "No one. If I have my way. Valdis and Zuko if they have theirs. Probably. They've both said they're willing to protect me."

Katara frowned more deeply until Zuko's name was dropped. Her eyes widened. "He's going to fight? He's not--"

He wasn't strong enough to protect anyone but himself. She knew how important Wan was to him, but it was foolish to think her be able to keep them at bay. Valdis, she knew was strong, but when it came to long range, katara wasn't sure. She herself had the power. Her heart pounded, and sighed determinedly. "Then I will too. You'll have a firebender and waterbender. Valdis can stay even closer."

He stared at her for several long moments before closing his eyes and bowing his head. He knew she was likely doing it more for Zuko's sake than his own. And for that he was grateful.

"Valdis will stay where she wants. But I won't object to you being there."

After looking at him a moment, she lost some of her bite, but stayed just as strong willed.

"Then I'll cover you personally," she said decidedly.

So Zuko won't have to.

"And if anything does happen, I'll be there to heal you the best I can."

Wan's head shot up and there was a slight panic in his voice, "No. You're watching Zuko."

The conversation suddenly took on a more personal weight, and she looked away from him, quiet for a while as she tried to clear her mind.

"You know it's the same, Wan," she told him, defeated. "If I can't protect you, I've failed you both."

"No," he said, voice more firm this time. "I don't need protection for this Katara. If this works, I'll be inside the Great Turtle. I won't need protecting. Valdis and Zuko will. You've fought alongside Zuko before. You can watch his back. You can keep him alive. The only reason Valdis is coming is because she's going to attempt to help me with the possession and Zuko is coming to make sure that nothing gets to us or interrupts us while we try. This isn't about protecting me. This is about making sure I have the time I need to finish what I've started."

The firmness in his voice brought her eyes back up to him, a spark flitting in the blue. For a long minute, she didn't pull from his gaze, studying him. "It's the same thing. If he's keeping you from being interrupted, he's protecting you. I'm sure we're not going to be able to go about this unopposed," she told him just as decidedly.

Deciding it wasn't worth the argument any further--for now-- she shifted her eyes to the side. "You're right. I'll protect him."

But you had better not let him down.

Wan relaxed slightly at her acceptance and lowered his head, "Thank you. I don't expect to be unopposed either, but we're trying to find a way to make it so we aren't heavily opposed. There will be people trying to distract the Great Evil. They're going to need more healing than I will, when this is done."

She nodded. "It'll be good for you to have cover, even if there are distractions..."

A pause.

"Will you make more spirit water before we go? I don't want to be caught off guard in case something as bad as last time happens."

"I'll make as much as I can," he said softly. "I don't know how much it will be, but you and Korra will get all of it."

She nods again. "Thank you."

She's incredibly uneasy about the entire thing, but so far its the best plan she's heard since she's arrived. They have no choice.
