EVENT | LANDFALL | EVIDET

Characters: ALL!
Date: January 28th to February 11th
Location: Evidet
Situation: Tu Vishan has washed up near the coastal city of Khatronma.
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.

The suddenness of the looming cliffs takes even the kedan by surprise, in spite of a number of them trying to plot their course with as much knowledge of the ocean’s currents as they already had. Tu Vishan makes landfall without any of the grace shown in previous times, bumping into the cliffs before finally coming to rest on the reef and rocks at the low tide around Khatronma.

Most of Khatronma's shores consist of steep iced cliffs, and once it becomes clear there is no threat, the residents of Khatronma oblige by establishing scaffolding across from the walls of their city to the turtle’s back. A customs area is quickly set apart, and the residents of Keeliai welcomed -- with some slight confusion. The Khatronmans are just as surprised by the unexpected docking as the kedan.

"It can't be something landlocked," Jack says slowly, thinking out loud. "I mean, the temperatures here, even if there were lakes and rivers, they're probably frozen solid. This place is practically the Arctic on Konryu. So... ocean-going?"

Sokka just listens to Jack and continues to stare at the boat with some grand amount of awe. "It'd have to be, yeah; otherwise, it wouldn't make sense for them. Besides, I don't know how much more there is to civilisation on this continent." Granted, the Water Tribe did well for themselves at the Poles of his world, but he knows just how hard a life that is... and they had magic!

"It's way too large to be a fishing vessel; there's just way too much boat for something like that," he continues. "Could be military, of course, but I don't imagine too many people would want to conquer a place like this. So... trading vessel?"

Jack considers that, studying the detail in the ship, and then nods. "You know, I think that's right on the money, Sokka. You don't dress up a ship like that to have it do a lot of hard work... it's meant to be seen. It's a nice looking ship."
theideaguy: (studious)

"That... that it is," Sokka says as he stares up at it. "Nothing says intimidation like a big defensible hunk of metal in your port." Sokka raises his eyebrows as he watches the workers scrambling all over it.

"I wouldn't have taken you for a guy who likes ships."

"Really?" Jack laughed. "What would you have taken me for liking?"

A moment's pause while he looks back at the Bronzeglider. "But yeah, I like them. Ships, trains... I mean, I like cars too, especially ones that are considered classics now, but I 'grew up' with the ships and trains."

"Well, you know," Sokka says with a rather smug grin, "snow, cold, ice, freezing water, ice cubes, that sort of thing." To be honest, Sokka didn't know all that much about Jack's life before he became the Spirit of Winter, and so Sokka is still being slightly serious despite himself.

Sokka though raises his eyebrow a bit at the list of transportation vehicles that Jack lists off though, and one of note throws him. "I know ships and trains, but 'cars' are new to me. I'm taking it's something that moves people about though?"

Jack gives Sokka a friendly punch on the shoulder. "I like those two, but that's not the extent of it. As far as cars, they're like mechanical carriages. Wow, it's been a long time since I've heard anyone actually describing them like that, I just gave myself deja vu."
theideaguy: (laughing)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2015-02-16 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka can't help but laugh a little bit at the punch. It's just like one of Toph's friendly punches, though she on the other hand hit a lot harder. "Well if you didn't like those, I'd say something is wrong," he adds, still chuckling a little. "Mechanical carriages? Like... vehicles that move on the street with an engine in them?"
wintershepherd: (curious)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2015-02-19 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Those are the ones," Jack agreed. "In my world, they started appearing about a hundred and twenty, hundred and thirty years ago, somewhere in there. And they've just been getting more interesting since then."
theideaguy: (cocky)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2015-02-19 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
In some ways, Sokka almost wants to say that that's an extremely useful figure in determining just how much technology Sokka has yet to see before he catches up to people like Jack and Tony Stark, but at the same time, they also have bending... which is admittedly way cooler.

"Huh, interesting," Sokka says with a smarmy grin. "Makes me wonder if I could actually make something like that if I had all the parts for one. It'd certainly be an interesting challenge. I could call it the Sokkomobile in my world!"
wintershepherd: (laugh)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2015-02-22 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Sokkamobile," Jack wrinkled his nose playfully. "That's a bit of a mouthful, isn't it? Oh man, I wish I could show you North's sleigh though. Now that is the way to travel. Plus, watching Bunny freak out about it is the icing on the cake."
theideaguy: (incredulous)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2015-02-23 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, come on, you're taking away the pride of being able to name your own inventions!" Sokka says. He's not quite complaining, perhaps just a little too animated to pass it off as honest complaint. Even if it's not his own invention, his own world wouldn't know, right?

But Jack's further comments just cause him to raise an eyebrow. "Well it certainly can't be any scarier than riding a flying bison for the first time. Or that time riding a flying bison while we were getting flaming rocks hurled at us."
wintershepherd: (gravity)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2015-02-25 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Flaming rocks? What's up with the flaming rocks? Flaming anything is bad enough, but why's it gotta be rocks?" Jack gasped in feigned horror. "Also, I thought all the animals from your world were weird mixtures. Don't get me wrong, bison don't fly where I'm from either, but shouldn't it be like a... bison-shark or something?"
theideaguy: (shrugging)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2015-02-25 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, the Fire Nation's army seemed to have enough soldiers that had brains made of stone, so perhaps that's all they could think of at the time?" Sokka suggests, failing wildly with the suggestion. "But then, really, they could have just started catapulting their own soldiers through the air and had the same effect." Oh yes, Sokka thinks he's clever for that one.

"As far as the animals go," Sokka just gives a shrug as an answer. "They're not 'mixture animals' to me; they're just different types of animals to me. Though you should hear the story about the animal that was just a bear that the Earth King kept for a pet. Did tricks, wore clothes, and everything. Don't ask me to explain that one."
wintershepherd: (overlook)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2015-03-02 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
"I protest on principle to any place called the Fire Nation," Jack retorted. "I'm overheating just thinking about it! Huh, a bear wearing clothes... they used to have those, but it was kind of animal cruelty."

theideaguy: (laughing)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2015-03-02 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"You would," Sokka says, just laughing ridiculously at that. "Though seriously, I'm kind of laughing at the thought of their entire nation being covered entirely by snow. I have no idea how any of them would cope."

The sense that what the Earth King was doing was animal cruelty completely surprises Sokka. "Really? That bear seemed like the most pampered animal I've ever seen. Also the tamest thing I've ever seen; I've seen polar dogs more disobedient."
wintershepherd: (z. cloaked)

[personal profile] wintershepherd 2015-03-05 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Are the poles in your world the only place that saw snow?" Jack asked, surprised.

"Oh, maybe not that bear, but dancing bears have been used in Europe for centuries, a lot longer than I've been around. Some of them are well-taken care of, but some... weren't."
theideaguy: (taken aback)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2015-03-06 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka thinks back a little bit before nodding. "Yeah, for the most part," Sokka says. "Even in winter, I don't remember seeing snow in either the Earth Kingdom or the Fire Nation. The Air Temples high in the mountains got a little bit of snow, but it snow was year-round for us at the poles."

Sokka smirks a little bit at the thought of dancing bears, though it will certainly disappear with talk of about some weren't taken care of. "Well, all I can say is that I don't think we even heard of any other bears in the world. Even the Earth King was looking for a mate for Bosco, and he's not found one to my knowledge. Of course, there are plenty of other types of bears, like platypus bears, but I wouldn't want to get near those. They're vicious!"
