[EVENT] Bonfire Night
Characters: ALL!
Date: February 21st
Location: Various.
Situation: It’s cold. Time to cuddle up and make bonfires for the warmth.
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.
As night falls the city’s lights take something of a unique turn. Instead of being lit by millions of paper lanterns, Keeliai is tonight lit by the flames and warmth of dozens if not hundreds of fires. Some of them are small, not much more than warming hearths in a barrel on a street, but others encompass squares and boulevards.
The fire lighting procession winds through the city’s streets, beginning at the first bonfire in Fire Sector. By the time full night has arrived, that procession is a snake illuminated by dozens of torches, parting from the main parade to light smaller fires in smaller streets. It ends, finally, in Central, in the Courtyard of Public Opinion, whose bonfire is second only to the initiating one in Fire Sector.
In some areas an exchange of goods arises, mostly in terms of woollens and other warm clothes and blankets. Though food is considered a public resource on this occasion, bartering small knickknacks, songs, stories and even other woollen items is not uncommon an exchange.
Meals are shared among kedan and Foreigners, commoners and emissaries--primarily stews, soups and other foods easily baked in the coals of the fires. Everyone brings food, and what isn’t contributed to the pot is nevertheless shared around after preparation. Although some bonfires are markedly wealthier than others, food and shelter is spread around to make sure everyone is safe and warm. No one goes cold and alone on this night.

Fire Sector (main bonfire) | Water Sector | Metal Sector | Earth Sector | Wood Sector | Central Keeliai
OOC Notes
The five Bresilykian emissary NPC can be found moving from Sector to Sector and partaking in the various traditions of each, and so can be engaged anywhere, while the Keeliai NPCs generally are staying in their respective areas as detailed below. Please put the name of the NPC you're requesting in the subject line of your tag if you want to interact with them. Thank you!

And with that, Zuko lifted his hand and held his palm facing up, generating a small flame above it.
"I can create and manipulate fire with the energy in my body, chi."
no subject
"It would appear we have something in common. Although I do not believe mine is called chi."
no subject
"So what do you call it?"
He wasn't sure if that was really firebending she was doing, but it definitely looked similar, even if the color was different.
no subject
...there was far more to it, of course, although some of the explanation necessary for a full understanding was--sorry, Zuko--classified. Kyle may not have been in Keelai any longer, but Aya still recognized him as a superior officer. And his orders as Law.
no subject
"Why is it green?"
no subject
Though emotional spectrum almost seemed an oxymoron, given the Guardian's incessant bias against it.
no subject
That's a new one to him. Though maybe it wasn't so odd as he thought about it a little more.
"The different bending artes have their own meanings too."
no subject
It was a safe assumption to say there were more she had yet to meet.
"May I ask what these meanings are?"
no subject
"You probably know Aang," he started, drawing three spirals close together.
"He's an Air Nomad, and they use airbending. It's the symbol of freedom."
He then drew a small circle with waves inside it. "Then there's Katara, she's a waterbender. Water is the symbol of change."
Next Zuko drew a trapezoid-like shape with the bottom lines curling in on the shape. "You might not have met Toph yet, but she's an earthbender. Earth is the element of substance."
And finally he drew a flame shaped symbol. "And I'm a firbender. Fire is the element of Power."
no subject
Not that she needed the human references. His explanation alone, equating certain elements with traits, was similar enough to the Emotional Color Spectrum that she was able to understand.
"Then you claim to wield a symbol of power? Is that correct?"
no subject
Maybe not exactly the way he'd put it, but he did just say that fire was the element of power. So it was correct.
no subject
no subject
"Fire has the power to destroy. If used improperly it can hurt people, just as many in my nation have done. It takes discipline, and respect to control and weild it. So, yes, it does take responsibility."
no subject
She was not being patronizing, nor was she attempting to ease any fears he may have. The statement came from her experience of various life forms of various planets. Each and every culture had one thing in common: fire.
"It provides warmth for carbon-based life forms who require it to sustain a steady core body temperature. I have also been told it is used to cook essential food items. Like marshmallows."
no subject
Though he wasn't sure what she meant by carbon-based life forms but oh well. He knew what she meant.
"Unfortunately many of the firebenders in my world don't know that. They use anger to fuel their power. I did too, once."
no subject
"I know of a Corps back in the Universe I originate from. Their anger was their power as well." Literally.
no subject
"My nation nearly caused the destruction of our works. And now it's my responsibility to set things right."
Oh Zuko you have no idea....
The rest...
(Well, let's put it this way: Lord Atrocious would have made the
FatherFire Lord seem like a saint.]"But...he has done much to atone for his past. I have witnessed the transformation personally. He is...a good person."
Nope he doesn't.
"I would like to meet him. I have... A lot to atone for too."
And this red lantern guy sounded like he knew what Zuko had/was going through.
no subject
"I am certain it would be mutually beneficial for you two to converse. However...he is not here. To my knowledge, he remains in our Universe of origin."
no subject
Zuko didn't really think it would ever happen, but then you never know.
