it's a brand new world [open]
Characters: Souji Seta & Anyone reading this line
Date: April 1st and onward
Location: Here there, a little bit of everywhere
Situation: For someone who's new, he doesn't seem that out of place.
Warnings/Rating: Tame as they come (mostly)
[ARRIVAL, TRAMWAY --> METAL]
While he would never consider himself a connoisseur of unusual situations, the first thing Souji did, when he snapped up and realized that the landscape that he was passing by weren't any he remembered, wasn't to panic but to stare more in curiosity...turning the simple bracelet that was now clasped around his hand, sporting a single, grey gem. Had, or was he dreaming? Or having taken a very, very wrong turn somewhere, no that was silly. Having ended up in an entirely different type of transportation, he felt his heart beat a little faster, even as his entire face was perfectly neutrality. He began to wonder if he'd been caught in another adventure.
But who, why, where, when? He put a hand on his head. He felt weaker, drowsier than usual too...
He got off at the next stop, holding on to his backpack tightly, looking at the buildings around him in wonder. It looked...slightly futuristic, and yet slightly colorless. But for someone with grey hair and eyes, Souji could almost pass as someone who fit in. Almost.
He began to walk around, to better figure out why he was here, but the looks he got from some of the populace walking by made him think it might be better to figure that out as soon as possible. Maybe if he could find someone that seemed out of place.
Too dizzy, he didn't even notice the public metallic garbage can he was walking right into...
[B - WOOD > FARM]
His eyes scanned around him, looking upwards what looked to be buildings completely made out of wood. Oh this! This looked absolutely amazing and he was already under the spells of the farm life, modified. This new world was interesting, although he still hadn't seen a single cat...
But then a sound behind him caused Souji to turn around, grinning.
Cows!
Wait...maybe not? It sounded like one, and honestly it still wasn't the best weather for them, but they looked odd. A bit....off...
It was only when he walked closer than he realized they were not sporting thick pelts like he had expected, but what looked like thousands of feathers in patterns like the animals he knew, yet completely unique. Tentatively, a hand reached over to the side of one and he ran his hand in it. Definitely feathers. Small quills that were fluffy to the touch, like newborn chicks.
"I wonder...do you even give milk, or do you lay eggs?"
Asking the important questions.
[C IS FOR CITY EXPLORATION]
"The Foreigner Welcome Center..."
He said the name aloud as he looked up. Having a few answers as to what exact situation he was in would be welcome.

"The Foreigner Welcome Center..."
He said the name aloud as he looked up. Having a few answers as to what exact situation he was in would be welcome.
A?
Regardless: the potential for injury. Raine crossed the street to him. "Are you all right?" she inquired, and, a moment after, "Do you need help?"
A!
"I'm fine, thank you," he replied, appreciating that someone was talking to him, after all the stares he'd been getting. He stood up, before adjusting the garbage can back into its original position. He was thankful that nothing really organic was in there.
"But I do need help..." Here came the million dollar question. "Where are we?"

"Keeliai," he repeated. The word sounded foreign enough and nothing that he'd about. No doubt about it...it was the strangest train turn he'd ever taken. He gave her a small bow in greeting, smiling. "I'm Souji Seta...I just got here uh...maybe ten minutes ago."
At best.
"Any help would be appreciated."
no subject
This was possibly the newest Foreigner she'd ever met. These days, even without the official welcoming committee, most of them managed the basics from a slightly less antagonistic passerby before the time they got to the Hotel. Raine studied him for a moment, considering where to start, then nodded, as if to herself. "Keeliai is a city built on the back of a giant turtle," she said, which seemed the best start other than the complexities of the metaphysics involved. "You should be aware that this isn't your own world. Originally, a number of us were summoned to combat an ancient evil. It's since been defeated, however, and we're not sure why new Foreigners keep arriving."
There was a pause, and then, realizing that something like reassurance might be in order, Raine added, "Don't worry about your world-- when you return, it should be to the same moment."
no subject
"It's nice to meet you, Raine-san." He kept quiet as she began to explain, his face as impassive as his grey eyes and hair, noting the important facts in his mind. A healer's guild instead of a hospital...that sounded almost like a video game. That idea was only solidified when she mentioned they were currently on a turtle's back - it would seem ridiculous to most, but he was well-versed in that type of mythology in his own world...along with one of his personas. So was this a place like the TV world...or another universe completely?
He couldn't help but feel a little excited at either prospect.
It wasn't his own world...he had deduced correctly. He began to rub his chin in thought, especially as she went on about how they had defeated a great evil but they kept coming...that reminded him all too well when they thought they had defeated the creator of the fog...but the real truth lied with Izanami...but why him and these particular people?
"The battle might not yet be finished," he surmised out loud, before looking at her. "Although it's good to know that my world isn't being affected by this...I just left Inaba and my friends...it would be terrible if I couldn't see them again, or if that was the last they saw of me." Unless they were here too....
no subject
"That's one possible conclusion," Raine agreed with a grimace. "One I sincerely hope isn't accurate-- we went to great lengths to ensure our enemy wouldn't come back." The less said about what it had put them through, the better. Those weren't wounds to be shared with strangers. "It's also possible that since the initial creator of the spell has since died, no one was capable of stopping it once it had served its purpose. Or its parameters may have been altered accidentally... there are more possibilities than I'd like."
She blew her breath out in a little sigh, shook her head. "At the very least, you'll see your friends again. You may even find some of them here eventually-- it seems once one person from a certain world is here, others often follow. My younger brother appeared recently," she added, by way of example.
no subject
"So a rampant spell..." this definitely was sounding more and more like a video game. "...maybe I can help you find out." Already trying to make himself useful, Souji idly moved his backpack. Too bad he hadn't packed his sword before leaving on the train...then again who would except for something like this to happen. Then he looked nervous when she went mentioning younger brothers.
"I'd...rather see my friends than my younger cousin," he admitted. Nanako didn't deserve another adventure of that sort. Ever. "But it would be nice to see them again, even if it's barely been a few minutes that I last saw them..."
Goodbyes were hard.
no subject
To the latter she simply gave him a sympathetic look; this feeling she knew, though she hadn't seen her own friends in significantly longer. "Let me show you to the Hotel," she said instead, after that pause. "Ah-- the Midnight Hotel. The proprietor's a Foreigner like us, and a good man. If you ever run into trouble, you can rest assured you'll be safe there. There's a Welcome Center as well, which I can also point out if you'd like; it's particularly helpful for newcomers."
500 days later...
"Midnight Hotel..." He couldn't help but think about that name and his own adventures, of sticking hands inside televisions sets both hands pointing at twelve. "...is there a particular reason it has that name?"
no subject
She knew Anton ensured the rules were set out for everyone, but nevertheless deemed it prudent to add on, "There's a strict non-violence policy in the Hotel, but you don't seem as rash as some people I know." She hoped.
B!
This heartfelt outburst comes from the other side of the pen in front of Souji, no more than a few paces further down the dirt path that links back to the Wood Sector streets. True to his word, Yosuke doesn't stay there. He rounds on the grey-haired not-at-all-stranger, making up in sheer disbelieving overreaction what he currently lacks in identifying headphones.
"Dude, I know you saw me when you walked past just then!" he snaps, waving an arm behind him in an unhelpfully vague attempt at illustration. "There's a time and a place for those non-reactions of yours, isn't there!?"
actual good tag coming after this.
He'd apologize soon enough.

"It's nice to see you again! Even if it's barely been a day...are the others with you?"
no subject
He leaned forward a little, almost expectantly. "But," he said, "they probably are around, right? If both of us are here, it'd make sense..."
Come on, partner, put the cow away and tell him it all makes sense.
no subject
"I met a few people along the way," he added. "They explained a bit about this world, but I wanted to find out more by my own...I didn't think you'd be here too." He shook his head, a hand still on the cow's head. "I haven't seen the others myself. If Rise was around, it would be easier to locate everyone, if they are here."
But a couple of weeks?
"Raine-san told me that if we go back home, time doesn't change...so maybe that's why. What's your last memory before coming here?"
no subject
Oh my god I'm late in everything sorry
He wasn't calling him a liar, he trusted him too much for that. It just meant something else entirely.
no subject
"Then... what, I'm from the future?" he said blankly. "I mean, you're from the...?" Inexplicably sci-fi as it was, it turned out to be the first conclusion his mind jumped to. How bizarre. It wasn't as if either of them had experienced something similar before. More annoyingly, it didn't do anything to suggest where he was supposed to jump next. "Dude... that seems so pointless, it's almost boring..."
But if that was the case, then the chances that the whole gang had been dragged into something at once had just taken their own plunge... hadn't they? He let a small frustrated noise out through his teeth, trying to think.
Brought to you by the letter C.
Sokka happens to be straightening a few things around the place when he sees someone standing outside the little building, perhaps looking a bit lost, reading the sign above. A visitor? Could it be? Does he actually get to help someone new?
He opens the door and sticks his head out, grinning widely. "Yeeeees, can I help you?"
Re: Brought to you by the letter C.
Wow, what speedy service! He gives Sokka a small, quick acknowledgement bow in greeting. There's a smile back but it's certainly not a wide of a grin as the other teen standing before him.
"Hey. I'm Souji Seta. I was told this would be a good place to get information." Look at him Sokka! So pure! So brand new! So very much in need of helping! So...not all that petered about the fact he's stuck in a completely different world?
no subject
He holds the door open for him and allows him into the Welcome Centre, a magical place where all your welcoming and welcoming accessories needs are met. Provided that Sokka can provide them, that is.
"So I take it you're new around the Shell, yeah? I mean, I'm guessing you're not just coming to pay a social visit." Especially because he hasn't seen this guy's face before ever.
no subject
"Nice to meet you Sokka-san." Look at that, all official sounding and everything. You would wait and see if he could find his proper age and know if he'd get bumped to the kun status, but for now, politeness prevailed. The weather wasn't too bad, but he had left around the same time in this own world, and the spring coat he wore kept him comfortable.
He gave him a thanks as he entered, and waited until they were both inside before speaking.
"Yeah. Not even a day," he explained. "I was told this should be one of my first stops."
no subject
"Sokka...san?? No, no, no, the name's just Sokka." Like, maybe he had bad hearing or something. "Sock-kah." There, that should set him straight. Can't be any more obvious than that.
"I figured. I hadn't recognised your face, and I'm pretty good about knowing who's here." He smiles and holds out his hands. "Well, let me officially welcome you to Keeliai, the weird city on top of the weird floating turtle in a weird world." Best intro ever.
"So, Souji," he says, because of course Sokka won't even know what -kun or -san even means, "before I help you get set up, I'm guessing you've got a lot of questions..."
no subject
And he would find out soon enough. Lesson 101 on Japanese etiquette, starting...now.
"I understand that," he replied grinning. "But it's my way of being polite. "In my world, using just your name by itself would usually imply that we are close friends." He could explain 'in my world, but only where I live', but that would be even more complicated. And as much as he liked friends, they weren't close . At least for now. "But if that makes you uncomfortable, I can just call you by your name."
He then shook his head, a slight shrug.
"Not all that many questions, Raine-san explained a few of the basics to me. I've been in a situation where I fought before, so I'm not completely new to it...although I didn't get to bring my sword with me." Or a golf club. That might be easier to find around here that a sword..."But more information is always useful, especially when you're new."
no subject
But with the mentioning of Raine, Sokka just gives a long nod. "Yeah, you did good to find Raine early on. She definitely seems one of the more knowledgeable sorts. She's been here longer than me, and she seems to like collecting knowledge for knowledge's sake.
"But... I'm pretty sure there are swords somewhere around here. Then again, it's not like I've gone looking for them since I managed to bring one from my world here.
"Though," Sokka says, segueing into another idea, "that does bring up a rather important point. So... you... might have noticed that sometimes we don't exactly get along with a certain... portion of the kedan." He's trying to waltz gracefully around a few bits, as if walking on eggshells. "It's getting better, a lot better actually, but definitely one of the things you'll come to find is that... some shops will try to rip you off because you're not a kedan. So definitely be on your guard on that."
I should not be using this icon but I'll do it anyway
He laughs, shaking his head.
"It's fine...I wouldn't penalize you for that." But he does take note to ask about that later; the idea that everyone is from different worlds is an interesting development, and he's always been curious about that sort of thing. His stay at Inaba has allowed him to speak a little more freely than before, although Sokka better not hope to have long conversations with him. But he's great for listening!
"I'll have to look into it..." Maybe if he had come from less than 24 hours earlier, he still might have had it on his person. For now, he idly moves his backpack that is filled with trinkets from all the links he had made. That is only interrupted when Sokka went on, and he frowns slightly. Kedan...so that's what the populace is called here? It didn't sound derogatory from the way he spoke, just that they were going to be rude to him.
"Alright. Maybe if I can help them out, they'll be more receptive."
Yes, he's very much 'power of friendship' kinda guy. Although this does bring up, he suddenly turns his head away from Sokka, as his eyes widen in surprise---wait a minute...
"Is that?"
He looks at one of the walls of the building. To everyone else, it might look like he's staring at absolutely nothing, but to Souji, the faint blue glow and outline of the Velvet Room stares right back at him. That should be impossible unless...without another word, he moves a hand into his coat's pocket and pulls out a small key.
"...I'll be right back."
And then suddenly Souji just looks like he's spacing out for a few seconds. Walls are amazing apparently! Please hold while his mind is off to the collective unconsciousness.
This was... a strange turn of events. And probably stranger still for the guy who is supposed to be welcoming him.
This is now the best thread.
But any further attempt at conversation is blocked by the moment that Souji-san decides to go somewhere and be right back.
...
Except he's not going anywhere.
Sokka just waits for something to happen, and there's nothing. There's just him standing. With eyes glazed over and just in a trance.
Uh.
Sokka just tentatively walks around the counter over to Souji and waves a hand in front of his eyes, seeing if he's still a part of this world. And then, if that gets nothing, he'll poke him. "Uh... Souji... ahem, -san...?"
hahaha
"...oh oops! Sorry." Normally he wouldn't even have bothered mentioning he was going somewhere, just looked like a guy who took a sudden timeout, but the fact the Velvet Room was here at ALL had to mean something. After a small chat with its denizens, he stepped out, still utterly confused (as they never gave any answer to his questions) about his new situation, but at least grateful to have those skills on his side.
But did it mean that this world was like the TV? Could he use his persona here? Or would he be able to stick his hand inside of a television set?
Only one way to find out....oh wait before be did that.
"You may want to step back a little. I'm going to try something."
Fair warning him, right?
no subject
And suddenly, Sokka wonders why in the world he ever signed up for this job. Meeting all the whackos before he had a chance to screen them over the consoles first. When Souji finally comes to, Sokka almost jumps back a bit, as if Souji were a weasel snake that had just jumped at him. Yeah, that was trippy. He'd have protested even further, but he's not going to get much of a chance to do that before he starts to go and do something else.
"Okaaaaaaay," Sokka says, drawing out the syllable as he moves back behind the desk. And then for safe measure, he kneels down, barely peeking over it. Because suddenly there's a potential that this guy is going to do something crazy. "Just... promise to tell me what this thing is when you're done. And promise me that you're not going to set this place on fire?"
Yeah, he's taking no chances.
no subject
Not too crazy, really (probably). Just summon another aspect of himself, or at least attempt to in a world that seems to already defy most of the rules in his own. Watching the other teenager scramble behind the desk, he would have said something about overkill to Sokka, but decides he might have never seen anything like this, and really, he figures if it makes him feel safer he won't push it.
"Nothing on fire. Got it."
But he can't help but tease regardless. He puts his bag on the side, pushing it into a wall with one foot. Glad that the rooms in this place are large enough to event attempt it...although now that Souji thinks about it, maybe he should have asked that they go to the roof...well, too late for that now. Outside would scare the local inhabitants, and with being told they weren't overly friendly...better keep that in mind. So that left here. The not TV world. But a different world.
He opens his hand, waiting to see if anything happens. It looks completely silly, a guy looking at his palm like he's about to unleash something. And for a few, tense seconds, nothing does.
But then, a faint blue light that grows brighter, pulsating until a single playing tarot etched with the symbol of the fool slowly begins to descend into his hand, wind picking up as the glow grows from under him as well, making his shirt and pants move. He grins, yes, it was true, he could use them here unaware or not caring of how he probably looks frightening at that moment, the surge of power happening all at once. With a brisk movement, he crushes the card with his hand, causing it to explode in a hundred small pieces. "IZANAGI!"
The wind erupts into a fierce storm, as the small glowing pieces pass right through his body, before reforming into a monstrous creature behind him. Holding its blade with one hand, it glances towards the counter; being tall enough to see Sokka. Yellow eyes glare back, but it doesn't move at all, as Souji simply stands there, grinning at the feat.
The wind stops as suddenly as it had begun and, well, there it is, he supposes.
"It worked." ...what did this mean if he could use them in this manner?
[gagtag]
no subject
The card descends. And Sokka is practically tempted to stand up at that point. In fact, he does start to. "Oh is this all you were—"
And then the wind storm happens, and Sokka practically dives for cover yet again. Yeah, what is it with newcomers deciding that right near Sokka was a great time to showcase their weirdo skills. The wind storm knocks a few of the fliers and maps from their shelves, plastering them on walls opposite or floors or through the doorway as the case may be. And then when the large creature suddenly fills the room, Sokka just looks at it with beady eyes from behind the next.
"Okay, I probably should have mentioned rule number two about the Welcome Centre: No summoning large creepy... things inside!"
But still Sokka is looking up high to the large creature threatening to go through the roof of the Welcome Centre due to its sheer height. "Please tell me that thing's not dangerous."
no subject
His other self disappears in a small shower of blue light and Souji stands there, pursing his lips as he taps them.
"There's more too," he adds. "...including much smaller ones. Izanagi is simply the one that represents me the most." He wasn't going to bring out Mara. Not yet anyway. Even poor Sokka didn't deserve that much trauma in a single day. "But this is incredible. Usually I couldn't use them in the real world...
Or maybe this place is another part of the TV world, far far away in a forgotten corner...
no subject
What.
"You're... him... and he's... you..." Sokka repeats, trying to make sense of it. But it's all just senseless syllables. "That's it. I give up trying to understand how it works. More weird otherworld magic that's completely beyond my poor logical brain to comprehend."
Though finally, Sokka will come out from behind the desk now that the creepy monster guy is gone. "I guess the only question that I have to ask is what can it do? You know, in case we have to beat up any more evil space turtle invaders or anything."
B
She was on the fence - literally, her feet on the bottom rung, leaning on the top - watching the not!cows. They weren't Mikan (or as others might know him, Pluto), but they were still pretty cute. And it seemed she wasn't the only one who thought so.
"Maybe they do both?" she suggested. Not that it was biologically feasible (except for platypi) but Xion's specialty was never biology anyway.
WOOPS I AM SO SORRY
"You could make an omelette just with a single one of these if that's the case..." Cream to make butter and cheese, eggs to make the rest of the omelette. This was... a truly fascinating creature. He turned to her, smiling.
"I'm Souji Seta. Are you a foreigner too?"
NO WORRIES
At his question though she straightened a little. "Oh! Yeah, I am. I'm Xion. I got here just... two months ago, I think?"
