February Catch-All

Characters: Obi-Wan Kenobi and YOU!
Date: All of February
Location: Keeliai and Tavimbi
Situation: Getting to know you and Landfall!
Warnings/Rating: None that I can think of?

Obi-Wan is still somewhat adjusting to things here on Keeliai. So the fact that the giant turtle makes landfall on a continent is surprising and piques his curiosity.

He can be found either wandering around the streets of Keeliai or Tavimbi. Willing to talk to just about anybody. Especially the Kedan and the Tavimbi natives.

Upon sensing a power that is not unlike the Force within Tavimbi, which he comes to know as the Xunutane, he will make checking that out his highest priority.

Feel free to find him just about anywhere!

It isn't that Skulduggery didn't expect more resistance the closer he got to the Xunutane. Quite the contrary, he's surprised at how little restriction there is down here. But it's still an abrupt change from the upper levels of the city, and it's no less frustrating.

"I'd just like to see the crystal," Skulduggery tries to explain - not for the first time - to the three Dexedi workers barring his path. "I don't want to touch it. I don't want to fiddle with it. I don't want to interrupt whatever sensitive work might be going on down here."

Skulduggery's facade, which worked so well thus far in keeping him relatively unbothered, doesn't seem to be making a difference anymore. He's got about ten minutes before he has to take it down, so in the interests of avoiding whatever international incident might result from taking it down in front of Tavimbian natives, Skulduggery has about ten minutes left to try and convince them he isn't a threat. He could probably use some help.

There were a lot of things going on lately. Maybe not actively, but everyone had their own lives and now everyone extended to the residents of Tavimbi where they had landed, and all the kedan and foreigners interested in the new landmass and all the things they had there. Cain himself wasn't immune to the effects of curiosity and found himself making the journey fairly often himself.

It was along one of those journeys that Cain ran into someone he had been meaning to look for in the first place. He had been meaning to be more proactive in the search to return the borrowed property, but his head was still just a bit mixed from everything that had happened recently. That was his excuse and he was sticking to it.

Regardless, there was the guy and here was Cain, still with his radio. Catching up to him on the roads of Keeliai, he tapped him on the shoulder before stepping up alongside him. "Hi," he said cheerily.

Whether or not she had just been exploded, Pepper is observant by nature, so when she spots a familiar figure near the Midnight Hotel she does a double-take. Yep - that was definitely the same guy. Odd, though: He hasn't introduced himself on the network yet, like most of the Foreigners do.

She catches up to him, curious.

"Hey, you were at the college when Tony's lab exploded," Pepper says by way of introduction. "Weren't you?"

Cain didn't mind someone lost in thought, and it was a good sign that someone he didn't recognize was wandering about so intently. It meant that he still had a basic idea of what foreigners belonged here and who really was new to the turtle. Hard not to with how few they were in overall number, but it was still nice.

"You look well," he said, as if Obi-Wan's health was the one that had been in question. Cain was certainly not wanting for energy or vitality. "Turtle been treating you all right?"

"I'm Pepper, Pepper Potts." She holds out a hand. "I was one of the people in the lab when it blew up," she explains. There's just the slightest hesitation as she says it, and she covers it with a smile. "You must be new to Keeliai; I know most of the Foreigners here. Thing usually don't explode very often. Mostly. At least not literally."

"That's a loaded statement if I ever heard one," Cain said idly, beginning to dig around in his jacket. It wasn't an overly fluffy or large one, but it had plenty of pockets and he'd been carrying this thing around long enough to not quite know where he left it this time.

Looking back up and pausing in his search, he stuck a hand out. "Jacob Kane. Thanks for the help, by the way. How long have you been around?"
insertdadjoke: (♊ but I break loose)

"Do we have anything but time while we're all here?" It was a rhetorical question that hopefully made his stance clear. Cain wasn't to be put out by things that would take a while to explain, although he wasn't going to push if this Obi-Wan truly didn't want to go into details. He was nice and thoughtful like that.

Nodding to that, Cain went back to searching his pockets and eventually came up with the radio he had borrowed. "You weren't here for long before that explosion, then," Cain noted, holding the radio out for him. "Any particular reason you were near the College?"

"Exciting, but not many things we can actively work against," Cain said with a shrug. Most of the things happening had been happenstance with only a small amount of elbow grease to dock the turtle, relatively speaking. Not that he was being pessimistic, just trying to point out how there was much more they could be doing. "I'd like that. Not enough people swap stories about their homes, really, which is weird considering our circumstances."

Good enough reasoning in Cain's book. He nodded to that and grinned. "You'll probably get along here just fine if that's what you're worried about. Although I should probably mention, explosions aren't actually that common here."

Post Radio call | Just outside the Welcome Center

[personal profile] portal_refugee 2016-02-07 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The radio broadcast had certainly been worth the time to make, as it had provided Abigail with that much more information to use here in Keeliai. Yet, for all she has learned thus far, she is aware that she has barely even begun to understand this new environment. This, unfortunately, currently cold environment. Even huddled against one of the outer walls of the Welcome Center to shelter herself from the wind, the cold still bites at her exposed skin, and her flight suit would not hold out too long. She had thoroughly tested its thermal retention capacity during her walk into the city from the outskirts of the farms, and would prefer to keep her extremities from losing sensation again so soon.

Tucking the broadcast device into her helmet that she holds against her hip as she steps away from the wall to begin walking, she then fishes out one of the maps to review the path she needs to take to the Midnight Hotel. It would have to do for tonight with the darkness and cold hurrying her towards the only option referenced to her. If it proved unappealing as temporary lodging, she could start to search for a new location to stay while attempting to secure a job.

Of course, luck seems to steer away from her as the wind snatches that map out of her single hand and tosses it down the street ahead of her. Blue eyes tracking the paper, she groans as she urges her tired feet faster over the ground and hurries after the paper in an attempt to catch it.

The instant the map becomes suspended in place, Abigail slows herself to a stop just a few feet from it. Staring at the frozen map, she lifts a foot to start approaching again, but stops just as quickly as she hears someone speak to her. Diverting her attention away from the map to the robbed figure moving towards her, she takes notice of how his hand is held out towards the map. It does not take a genius to figure out what that means.

But it might take one to be distracted by it.

There is a noticeable delay in which Abigail is looking between the map and the stranger, and when she does finally move to the map, she moves more beside it than directly in front of it. Reaching a hand up slowly, as though testing the air around it, she finally does reclaim her map and draws it in against her upper abdomen to hold so as not to waste his effort to save it for her.

"Thank you," recovering some social grace she starts, but shakes her head dismissively as she looks away briefly when asked if she is alright, "Just new here." The map alone could tell him that much.

In truth, Abigail is far from alright. Bordering on exhaustion, she is a bundle of nerves barely held together, frayed from anxiety and fear, and burdened with a sense of loss and helplessness.

Shifting her helmet into the crook of her elbow, she uses both hands to fold the map back into an orderly state. Folded small enough, it is tucked back away into that helmet under the juulan to keep it held down with the other informative material she had been given. Delayed by the task, she looks up after he has his cloak off. A step back in a half turn keeps her squarely facing towards him to keep the cloak away from her back, a movement that happens almost reflexively. Holding up her now free hand, she declines as politely as she can, "I'll be alright. I don't plan to be out here long. But thank you."

Cloak off, it finally allows Abigail to see the man that had come to her aid. His face is strikingly familiar, as is the garb he wears. The recognition is visible as a change in her expression, but surely it must be a coincidence. Shaking off the odd perception, she resumes function.

"Uh...stay? Oh, not yet. I was told to try the Midnight Hotel."

Shoulders easing a little, she lets her helmet slide back down against her hip to keep it held steady. The offer for extra cover is all the more appreciated when it is not insisted upon. Though now that the cloak is back in place, it only reinforces the recognition, and it makes Keeliai a little more fanciful.

"Any chance you could point me in the right direction towards the nearest one?" With the cold, she doesn't expect anyone would show her the way there, but getting down the right street to start will help immensely.

A thought, then she ventures to ask an additional question, "Are you also one? A foreigner I mean."

Back into the wind. Of course it would be that way. Still, if he is already headed that direction, walking along with him would give them more of an opportunity to talk. More information could be gathered about Keeliai or the city in the mountain if nothing else.

Offering her gloved hand out to him as she straightens her posture, Abigail offers a tired but honest sort of smile, "It's good to meet another newcomer. My name's Abigail. Abigail Callaghan."
