A. Heather at the dojo

Heather starts going to the dojo in the early mornings, with her Spatha at her side. She's working mostly on forms, though if anyone wants to stop her and spar with her, she's more than willing to do so.

B. Heather at the Healer's Guild

Heather loves working a shift at the Guild, and will often pick up extra shifts here and there, because she's bored. But, she's got a gentle touch and likes learning about new herb healing.

C. Heather out and about

Heather can be found just about anywhere. She's going to be lurking around the Fire Sector, looking for houses of ill repute, to perhaps pick up a few nights worth of work.

D. Brigid at the shelter

With Erskine's disappearance, the running of the shelter has fallen to Brigid. And she doesn't mind it too much. She'd much rather answer to someone else, but until she finds someone to be the face of the shelter, she's it. Plus, it's cutting into her time with Jackie.

E. Brigid at the dojo

Brigid is getting back into Krav Maga. It's a nice routine to be in her mind. Plus, it means that she doesn't need to go running.

F. Brigid at the Hotel

Brigid can be found, most evenings, in the common area of the hotel, a few papers, a few books spread out around her. She's also got a huge book in front of her, as she translates. Other times, she's translating for someone else. But she's willing to be bothered.

He's a respectful one, she'll give him that. But that would make sense, if he was raised doing wushu. Only those that are raised in the way of the warrior respect it. That was something her mother had told her ever so long ago. Just for a moment, Heather can smell the peat fire and....

She refuses to walk down that memory lane.

"It was. Taught to me when I was younger, by a man claiming to be an expert." She shrugs. "Whether he was or not is not for me to judge."

People claiming to be experts, in Gene's opinion, usually aren't; the true masters let their art speak for themselves. But he probably has a bit of a right to be snobby.

"Did he tell you the particular discipline? All I know of Japanese swordfighting is kendo, but nothing more specific than that."

She wipes her face fully and drapes the towel over her shoulder. Slowly, she slides the Spatha under her coat, protecting it. The bloody thing is several hundred years old. "The discipline is called Kenjutsu, though I don't know the specific form's name." She's pretty sure it has one, just not what it is. "It's been a while since he taught it to me." A couple hundred years or so.

Gene nods. "I thought I could see some familiar movements there. There's been some cross-pollination, I think."

He glances at the sword as she hides it away. "What kind of sword is that? It looks Roman."

"It is." She admits, pulling it back out. Heather holds it up for Gene to see. "It's called a Spatha." She says. "It's the sword the gladiators often used in the arena." She offers it to him. "Be careful, it's sharp."

He takes it from her, testing the unfamiliar grip. It's definitely not a practice weapon, that's for sure. He steps back from her and gives it a couple of practice swings when there's a safe distance between them.

"Usually there's a rule about live steel on the practice floor," he says, teasing slightly, and hands it back to her, hilt first. "It's a beautiful one. You must take good care of it."

"Is there?" She's completely unconcerned about such a thing. Honestly, she'll argue with anyone who says she'd be careless with her steel. It's saved her life too many times to count.

"I was taught very early how to care for weapons." Living in a Celtic tribe meant she learned young. "It's an old friend to me now. And I could no more not take care of it than not wash my hair."

"Mostly to prevent accidents, especially with the kedan," he says. They don't come back like Foreigners do. "But the sword I most like to use is one that doesn't see much use except in battle anymore. I practice with it after-hours so I don't get rusty."

Gene nods. "I understand. So was I." Practice weapons, largely, but the swords used for taolu needed care, too.

"Well, I've no plans to practice with anyone and I need the weight for the forms." Meaning, no kedan will be sparring with her.

"But if you ever want a sparring partner, it's been a while since I've had one." A hundred years or so, give or take a decade.

"We have weighted practice weapons, but I understand - it's better to have your own weapon in your hand, if you have one."

He thinks about it for a second, then nods. "I think that'd be fun. And educational."

She snorts indelicately. "Weighted practice weapons are for those that don't know how to use the real thing." She points out. She's used that sword to defend her life.

"For both of us. I am not as familiar with the Chinese forms, as I probably should be." Heather admits.

Gene smiles. "That's why we have them. Easier to recover from a bruise than from a cut if you don't know what you're doing."

"And I'm sure you could teach me a thing or two, as I'm barely familiar with what you're practicing."

"I always know what I'm doing, darling." She purrs at him. No reason not to flirt with him. She drapes the towel around her neck. "But if you'd feel better, we won't use live steel." Because she'll recover just fine.
