July Catch All!

Characters:Date: JULY
Location: All over Keeliai
Situation: July catch-all
Warnings/Ratings: None, but possibly violence

A. Heather at the dojo

Heather starts going to the dojo in the early mornings, with her Spatha at her side. She's working mostly on forms, though if anyone wants to stop her and spar with her, she's more than willing to do so.

B. Heather at the Healer's Guild

Heather loves working a shift at the Guild, and will often pick up extra shifts here and there, because she's bored. But, she's got a gentle touch and likes learning about new herb healing.

C. Heather out and about

Heather can be found just about anywhere. She's going to be lurking around the Fire Sector, looking for houses of ill repute, to perhaps pick up a few nights worth of work.

D. Brigid at the shelter

With Erskine's disappearance, the running of the shelter has fallen to Brigid. And she doesn't mind it too much. She'd much rather answer to someone else, but until she finds someone to be the face of the shelter, she's it. Plus, it's cutting into her time with Jackie.

E. Brigid at the dojo

Brigid is getting back into Krav Maga. It's a nice routine to be in her mind. Plus, it means that she doesn't need to go running.

F. Brigid at the Hotel

Brigid can be found, most evenings, in the common area of the hotel, a few papers, a few books spread out around her. She's also got a huge book in front of her, as she translates. Other times, she's translating for someone else. But she's willing to be bothered.

G. CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

Just let me know which one you want!

"Tony picks up his notebook again, but before he climbs up on his chair, he interrupts Brigid one more time.

"What are you working on?"

"Ogham?" Not a word Tony recognizes, and he's curious. Then he remembers that he's already bugging her, and before receiving an answer, asks his actually relevant question: "You were thinking about learning Kedanese writing too, weren't you? Have you done a lot of work like that, with... languages that aren't related to anything else?" He's sure there's a proper linguistic term for that but he sure as hell doesn't know it.

"Have you done anything with the sigils?" Tony gestures to the building around them. "It sounds like you'd be good at it."

And Tony sure could use all the help he can get with restoring some of the Hotel's magic.

"The ones that run the Hotel. Or, used to. They're complex symbols that basically act like a magical language. I've been working with them for a while, but I'm an engineer." Self-explanatory. "If you're good at languages, they'd probably make a lot of sense to you."

Now he gestures up at the lintel. "Like I said, that's what I'm looking for. Any signal remnants that I can work with."

Tony laughs. "If those doors that open into every sector were technology, you would have seen me around here a lot more often." If the Hotel's dimensional capabilities had been tech-based, you wouldn't have been able to pry him out of it. Not that he doesn't find sigilwork interesting and valuable, but at the end of the day, he's a scientist and an engineer.

He flips to a fresh page in his notebook and draws the sigil he typically uses as an example: a simple symbol for light. He turns it so Brigid can see it, and finishes the last line. The pencil lines start to glow gently. "This is a basic sigil for light. That's an easy one. They get really complicated. The Hotel kind of... occupied its own dimension - it was all based on sigilwork. So were all the wards."

"Unless you're from Anton's universe, you probably wouldn't. But it works in this universe, and you don't need to be a magic-user to use sigils. You just have to learn the rules.

"And trust me," his tone turns dry, "if you needed to know anything about science to do magic, most sorcerers would never get anything done." Shaaaaaaade

"The scientific method is just a process, you can apply it to any discipline." Except, like, art or whatever. But, you know. Any real field.

He shrugs, and repeats what he always says when the discussion of magic versus science comes up: "From what I've seen, magic is an innate biological ability to manipulate physics in ways that normally require advanced technology. But it's still physics. Most magic users just aren't used to looking at it that way."
