Situation: With Tu Vishan once more awake, hurried preparations are made for the departure from the continent.

August starts much the same way as July ended, cold and stuck, but within a day or so a change is evident: at night, the bioluminescence of Tu Vishan's shell begins pulsing, in a bright, specific pattern.

Deciphered, the pattern counts down, pointing to the 16th. The citizens of Keeliai have that long to prepare, to finish their business and make any farewells they need to, before Tu Vishan resumes the itinerant lifestyle to which he was so long accustomed.

The waking of the turtle means, broadly, joy in the city, and also a bustling sense of busyness, as people who had grown comfortable in the patterns of Tavimbi-and-Keeliai find it's time to go their separate ways and rush to get affairs in order. For all that it's a departure, it's hopeful, coming as it does at a time when the state of the city is shifting as well, toward something perhaps more unified.

Tu Vishan is awake. The turtle moves.

But it's not as good of a plan as you might think. One big lunch between us and we'd go bankrupt.

[ Asking the question anyone would ask, really. Because what the hell, Steve. ]

That hurts, Buck.

[He goes for his best wounded look. He knows Bucky's had a lot of his memories scrambled, but Steve's eaten enough pastrami sandwiches in his lifetime to know what makes a good one.]

[ EATING IS NOT THE SAME AS MAKING, STEVEN.

Bucky manages an almost-smile at the wounded puppy-dog look he knows Steve employs when he wants something (mostly Bucky's ready acquiescence). ]

You could test your pastrami skills on me.

Gotta find some first.

[There's a surprising lack of familiar things here. They seem to have the basics covered, but cured and thinly sliced meat with certain spices is a little bit harder to find.]

I'll make it my mission.

[It's a promise, one that he wants to fulfill.]

[ His mission? Bucky gives him a look -- wonders if he's joking, and realises after a minute that he isn't. ]

Are you gonna make pastrami if you can't buy it?

[From the look on his face, it's pretty clear that Steve hadn't thought about that possibility yet. He's still hoping that his search yields results. But now that it's been brought up, would he really take it that far?]

[Steve doesn't break his word to anyone. He's sure as hell not about to to Bucky of all people.]

Just don't ask me to raise the cow. That's where I draw the line.

[Because then he could never eat it. And probably become a vegetarian.]
