The success of the ball and the relative quiet of the past month had left Valdis with feelings of both joy and concern. Joy in that many enjoyed the ball. Concern in that the Cultists have been quiet since their last attack. She might have been relieved, if not for Alex’s concern over their lack of movements. She would need to put her ear to the ground and see what she could find.

"Excellent," Valdis replied, eyeing the stack of papers, "Anything in particular stand out?"

"From what I understood of it, it was interesting." Conan wasn't admitting to the extent of his chemical knowledge. "But it doesn't seem like he finished it."

"That's unfortunate."

Very unfortunate. And frustrating.

"I wish he hadn't left."

They could have used his knowledge to fix the mess he had left behind.

Conan would never admit to similar sentiments. It had been nice, having a fellow detective around.

"A chemist might be able to complete it."

"Then we'll need to find a chemist," Valdis replied, "Can I put you in charge of that?"

He nods. "Mmm, I'll look into it."

"Perfect. Thank you for your help." She gestured to the paperwork, "I've been a bit busy with other things."

"I can see that.Is something going on? Or is it just the usual?"

Valdis paused, then smiled sheepishly, "I might have ignored it for a week or two."
