[He subsides, cowed as usual by the combination of an answer and implied reprimand.

But he's still Oliver Queen.] You could have said 'boxing'.

[Eyebrow.]

['Your point?']

No, you went for the pretentious answer. [SWIGGING AT HIS WATER. Just think Bruce he's not even as much of a brat as he used to be.]

Do you know what 'pretentious' means, Mr. Queen?

[He raised Dick. He isn't even bothered.]

Attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, blah blah blah, than is actually possessed. [He is only a little smug.] I read that in a book once. And it's still Oliver.

Then that begs the question, do you honestly feel I need to impress you?

[YOU IN DANGER, GIRL.]

[He submits again, comebacks dying at the expression on Bruce's face. He bites the top of his water bottle and looks away.]

You have even less of a sense of humor than Slade.

[That draws him up short. Slade Wilson, Deathstroke, didn't encounter Oliver until he was much older, and the vendetta they had against each other wasn't anything that would warrant Oliver's exposure to his sense of humour.]

Deathstroke trained you?

Slade Wilson. [Deathstroke? Oliver didn't expect that reaction. Not from Bruce. He didn't think the guy was capable of actual surprise. That Slade is a known quantity isn't as shocking to Oliver as it might have been a month or two ago.]

[No matter that it's obvious, now. Even across universes, if he's looking for it, he can see the hard edges of Slade's 'training' in the way Ollie moves. That changes things. Not considerably, but-- enough.]

Yes and no. [Before he gives more than that, he wants to know why it matters.] Why?

[Bruce gives him a Look.]

Do you remember [like thirty seconds ago ago] how I inferred that details of my world hold no meaning for you? Deathstroke the Terminator, Slade Wilson, is a genetically enhanced super soldier. He's smarter, faster and stronger than I am. I would not engage him in combat unless I had an absolute need to do so. If he trained you, I need to know. Now.

But you still want to know details about mine. Why shouldn't I ask for the same?

[It's half to be stubborn, and half because... well, he's curious. Wilson never came across as any of the above - not on a superhuman level, at any rate.] Why do you need to know?

Because you wouldn't know what to do with them.

[Look him in the face and tell him that's not the truth, Ollie. Really. And then, after a moment, he turns away.]

You've already told me. Answering now is redundant.

Why does it matter? [No, he's not letting this go. He doesn't grab Bruce's shoulder - he's not that stupid - but he does step up beside him.] What would you have done if you didn't like my answer?

Why not? [He's going to keep asking. There's a division in him of loyalty and betrayal. As far as Slade goes It's complicated only starts to cover it.] He saved my life.

[A sideways tilt of the head, an annoyed concession.] A lot.

Slade is a murderer.

[And Bruce isn't one to throw stones in glass houses about having learned from murderers, given Shiva's hand in shaping him after Bane. After a moment, he relents,]

He's tried to kill my son on more than one occasion.
