Under the Sea (Open)

Characters: Jehan, Grantaire, Byrn, and everyone who wants to join them!
Date: April 23rd, midmorning to late evening
Location: The edge of the turtle!
Situation: Swimming! A picnic! A party!
Warnings/Rating: I'm going to rate this PG-13 for naked/nearly naked people, alcohol, and smoking. Also R's mouth. And apparently terrible mythological comparisons.

[Jehan has never been this happy, he doesn't think. The ocean. The blue, warm ocean. He gets to see it again, gets to swim in it with his friends, gets to enjoy it. He's so happy.

Of course, he's taking a long moment to shed anything but his coat once the group gets to the edge. It's a beautiful shade of blue and he can't not admire it.]

I grew up aboard a ship, myself, and I have spent a great deal of time on the sea; it is very strange, I think, to be stationary for so long.

[He cranes his neck to look back at Jehan.] What is Paris like, in the spring?

Oh, it's quite lovely. The temperature is perfect, at least to me, and even if it does tend to rain a bit it isn't a cold rain or a rain that leaves everything feeling terribly heavy, not normally. The flowers start to bloom and the birds return and--

[He sighs, remembering]

One of my favorite things.

Then I should like to visit someday, once the war is over.

[A too-often echoed sentiment here, he finds, but he means it, as he means everything, especially with the prospect of meeting his newfound friends there.]

Should things go the same for you as it did for us--we do not have dragons, after all--the war should end in 1815. I did not leave for Paris until about 1828.

[Implication being that if he lives in Temeraire's France, he'll be in Cannes until then]

But I imagine you'll love Paris. It really is lovely. The countryside is as well, with much more space if the city is too cramped for you.

That is certainly no guarantee, with things the way they stand now: not with Lien as his most trusted general, and our own forces-- [He breaks off with an abrupt snort. Even in a world away from his own, he is a little reluctant to speak of the plague.]

But I will look for all of you, and getting about the city should pose no great problem. I have heard that even now the streets are being widened for dragons, and with any luck they will remain so, so we might use it as a template for London.

Widened?

[Oh dear. That might make barricades difficult. Hm.]

Do you suppose we will be there, when you look?

Well, yes; I am sure it does not look very nice, at all, but I suppose it will make them easier to navigate, if more difficult to defend. [A little sullenly. Why does his cousin have to be so good at everything.]

I certainly cannot see any reason why not: it does not seem very fair to me that people like Napoleon might exist in both our worlds, but not people like you, or the other Amis.

...I suppose you've a point. And even if you cannot find us, I imagine there will be people like us.

It might be preferable, after a fashion, if none of you would remember me, as it would not be you I was speaking to, at all, but a different you, who had never come here in the first place.

...it is a very complicated business, I think.
