Under the Sea (Open)

Characters: Jehan, Grantaire, Byrn, and everyone who wants to join them!
Date: April 23rd, midmorning to late evening
Location: The edge of the turtle!
Situation: Swimming! A picnic! A party!
Warnings/Rating: I'm going to rate this PG-13 for naked/nearly naked people, alcohol, and smoking. Also R's mouth. And apparently terrible mythological comparisons.

[Jehan has never been this happy, he doesn't think. The ocean. The blue, warm ocean. He gets to see it again, gets to swim in it with his friends, gets to enjoy it. He's so happy.

Of course, he's taking a long moment to shed anything but his coat once the group gets to the edge. It's a beautiful shade of blue and he can't not admire it.]

[He takes a bite. It's really juicy, and he gets some on his chin]

I am glad you're enjoying it. I just couldn't pass up a chance to go for a swim, when I heard that the waters were clear and warm.

They are- I have never seen them so clear. I hope that our kind host is enjoying them as well. [He pats the ground, indicating that he means Tu Vishan.]

As am I. The poor creature deserves it. He never asked for any of this.

[He wipes his chin]

Are you staying cool? You're terribly pale--I would hate for you to take in too much sun and burn. It isn't an enjoyable experience.

Indeed he did not. I hope he feels better.

[He rubs his nose where he can feel a sunburn starting.]

I think I shall burn a little, but I have done my best to preserve my complexion.

As long as you do not have the terrible experience my cousin had the first time he went to the shore with us. He resembled a lobster for a week. Boiled red is not a color that looks good on anyone, even you.

[virginprice]

[He laughs.] No, no, I cannot wear red at all well. My foster-sister could, but I cannot.

[poeticverses]

Particularly not lobster red.

[And because Jehan is tipsy and enjoying himself, he goes on a barely related tangent]

I knew of a man who had a pet lobster that he took for walks in Palais Royal gardens.

[virginprice]

No! Truly? [Alcuin can't help but laugh at the idea of that.]

Why would he do such a thing? I do not think a lobster would belong there.

I haven't the faintest, but he did. Everyone was talking about it when it was found out. Some called him quite mad, I mean, it wasn't like exotic birds that can be explained away as eccentric, but a lobster. I did not know they survived on land that long!

[virginprice]

I suppose if he was attached to it it would make sense... or perhaps he simply wanted the notoriety. People can be very odd.

[poeticverses]

Of course, for him a lobster may have been normal and he thought the rest of us odd for preferring cats and dogs.

[He sighs, rolling over to lie on his stomach]

What sort of pets are kept in Terre d'Ange, Alcuin?

The usual kind, I suppose. Cats and dogs and horses and birds. Anafiel gave me a horse, a few months ago.

You know how to ride?

Yes, I learned a few years ago. I did not often have the chance, but I enjoyed it.

[poeticverses]

I never quite took to it. They just seem rather...terrifying, to be frank. Temeraire is perfect fine, but horses frightened me.

[virginprice]

Some of them can be quite frightening. I was afraid at first, but after the first I ever sat on dropped me into a dung heap, I became fixed on succeeding at it and refused to be frightened anymore.

[poeticverses]

Oh, dear, did it really?

[A sympathetic arm pat]

Horses are overly fond of dropping their riders, it seems. Much safer to take a carriage or walk wherever it is you wish to go.

My dignity and I recovered and knowing how to ride later saved my life- I cannot regret it.

[poeticverses]

Your world sounds terribly dangerous, Alcuin, all this near-death and dying. Or is it simply that you were in a position of danger?

[virginprice]

Anafiel had both enemies and plans, so I suppose it was somewhat dangerous to be of his household. Truly, Terre d'Ange is a largely peaceful place. At least it was.

[poeticverses]

Perhaps, someday, there will be a way for you to show it to me. Who knows what...oddities the turtle will bring us to next, after all.

She's a wonderful woman. Very kind and incredibly talented- she was one of Anafiel's closest friends.
